Re: Chit Chat Thursday

  • I am over Kim Kardashian.  And that's the last time I will speak of her and her sham marriage again.
  • I am agitated -

There are only two of us in the office today and I mentioned to the other woman that it was really cold in here. She responded back with "I've got on this big jacket, I'm nice and warm." The thermostat says 62 and you have to have a key to change it, which only she does. Thanks an effing lot.

  • I am kind of excited!  I put on a pair of pants that I bought last year before Mom passed away and, by the time winter rolled around, they were too small.  I put them on this morning, fully expecting them to not fit, but they zipped right up and buttoned very easily.  Yay!!!  It also means that I have another new pair of pants because I have a pair of gray pants too.

One week until my birthday and one week until a little fall vacation with Bill.  I'm getting pretty excited now!

Our birthdays must be very close - mine is in a week and a day.

Speaking of which - I have an AW - Vegas next Thursday!!

  • I'm 11/10.  Weird thing?  My mom was 10/11.

Tim Ryan calls her "She Who Must Not Be Named" or something like that.

Since I will not be here next week...

Happy Early Birthday Julie and Leslie!!  Have fun on your trips as well!

  • Brianna - I'm right there with you.  Let's teach everyone that's weddings are about having a pretty princess day and not about making a committment to spend your life with another person.  A life that may not always be full of puppy dogs and rainbows, but a life that you will each work hard at making and maintaining.

I hear you.  Lindsay Lohan, the MJ trial (which I am so happy about because no one here has been talking about it) and the female above is all anyone is talking about on TV and radio.

^^^ This is a terrible idea.   I would never want to use my phone to pay for things.   How horribly insecure that must be.    Their "foolproof" method to prevent identity theft?  Your photo.   Um, sure... because every cashier in town is already SO vigilant about matching my face to my drivers licence.  How would a photo on a computer screen be any different?

    <end rant>

  • I am absolutely LOVING this chilly weather. It's wonderful... with the small exceptions of the allergens it blew in. My face feels like a hot air balloon. An itchy hot air balloon.
    imageimg
  • The pay-by-phone thing kind of creeps me out.  It feels like the future, like in those crazy movies where something goes disastrously wrong!

I can't believe it's Thursday already - I can't wait for the weekend!  Stephan Pyles & stale wedding cake, yum!!  If you've already eaten your wedding cake, how long before your anniversary did you thaw it out?

  • I would also just like to go ahead and put it out there that this "Occupy" thing is ridiculous.   Absolutely ridiculous.

At the Halloween party I went to last weekend, there was a couple there with hoodies that were made into octopus costumes - eyeballs on the hood, the bottom cut and sewn into tentacles with little suction cups attached.  They were pretty awesome... but, there were picket signs attached to the tentacles, and they were Octopi Wall Street.  It was hilarious and cheesy all at once!

  • I probably shouldn't talk about this here, but I'm so mad I'm fuming so I'm going to get it out. Recently, DH got an email from a fellow photographer (who he happens to be related to and who is not one of my favorite people) saying that he was recommending DH to someone whose wedding reception he had agreed to shoot, but he was going to go on a trip instead. Which was unprofessional enough on his part, but we were excited about the work and extra money. Plus, we thought maybe he actually was starting to see DH for his talent instead of treating him like he did when they were kids for once. Then, last night we get an email from the same DB saying that his travel plans fell through and he was going to go ahead and shoot the reception. I am so livid I cannot explain. DH is not yet at a point in his career where that one shoot doesn't make a difference. He's trying really hard, but he just doesn't yet have the volume of business that he'd like to one day have. We were counting on that money for Christmas gifts, and we probably would have planned a shorter trip for this weekend had we known. The DB has a well-paying full-time job, and this is DH's only source of income right now. And, really, it's not about the money. It's unprofessional, thoughtless, and well, just rude. And it just confirms how little the DB thinks of DH. Sorry this was so long, but it really takes a lot for me to get angry, and I really want to scream about it, but instead I'm just B&Ming about it here.

ETA: Is it ridiculous for me to be upset about this?

  • Angie, I think I took our cake down a couple of days before our anniversary--I honestly can't remember.  I think it said on our box.

My AW--our 2nd wedding anniversary is Monday but we are celebrating Saturday night at 560!

I'm swamped today!  See you guys later.

  • Today is a low day for me, so in the interest of not Debbie Downer-ing the rest of the day I think I am going to bow out. My cousin had a baby last night. My FB feed is overwhelmingly full of pictures, posts, etc. from many members of my family and mutal friends. I am expected to drop by today and visit/meet the baby. I am struggling with it and I am more than anything mad at myself for being bitter.

I keep telling myself to be thankful for the struggle, to let it become something to grow from and not be dragged down by. I feel like an AW even posting this, but what is AW Thurs for if not moments of complete AW-ness? :) I am getting a pedicure tonight, I intend to allow myself dinner at Olive Garden and I still have that damn chocolate cake at home.

See you tomorrow (on Friday!) girls.

  • Question:     DH and I have a co-worker (he is in a higher position than us, but not either of our managers) who just had major surgery and will be out the rest of the year.

We want to send something to the hospital for him, but flowers seem kind of weird to send a man.    I was thinking about a cookie bouquet, but I'm not sure if he can even eat cookies?    Would it be appropriate to send something like that?

I have given a guy a gift basket with all kinds of manly snack foods like beef jerky, peanuts, pretzels, etc before and he loved it.  You could do this "movie night" themed one and tell him to get some rest and catch up on a few movies or something like that. I also like the cookie bouquet too!

  • Anna - I would be totally pissed too.  I think you're rightfully mad.

Tiffany - Without knowing any details of the surgery, I would say no cookies.  I think that flowers would be okay, but you never know what kind of diet he will have to be on for the few days following this surgery... just my .02

  • Angie - we went to a B&B, so we took it out of the freezer the day before, went to the B&B, put it in their refrigerator.  Then took it out later that night and ate it.  It was stale, but the icing was still awesome!

Leslie - I know you may not read this until tomorrow, but here are my thoughts.  I can't imagine how hard it is for you to read your FB feed, visit the hospital, etc.  I think it's okay to be upset and have a debbie downer day.  I just know in my heart that your day will come.  ::hugs::

    Stephie - Happy Anniversary

Tiffany: You could do an edible arrangement or one of those bouquets that aren't flower, but have candy bars tied on sticks.

  • Anna - No, I don't think that is petty at all.  I wish that you had some recourse for this situation - I am sorry!

Leslie - I'm sorry you're having a rough day.  Enjoy your Olive Garden, cake, and pedi!

Tiffany - what about an Edible Arrangement with the fruit?  I've also seen candy arrangements with wrapped candy - then, if he's not able to enjoy it just yet, it won't spoil right away and he can enjoy it for a while.  I think you're right on the flowers, but the other types of arrangements are perfectly acceptable.

I am feeling a teensy bit frustrated by work, and a little overwhelmed, and it's my fault for letting myself get behind.

Also, I need a suggestion for something to bring for our work Thanksgiving potluck.  I'm not the best cook, and green bean casserole (my favorite) is already taken.  I'd like to do something yummy but not too difficult.

  • Angie - pumpkin pie bites  :)

Anna - I would be 100% pissed off, too.  That's rude and unprofessional!  Let's key his car.  Who's with me?

    J/k.  ;)

  • Thanks Ladies - That's kind of what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure.

Angie - That chicken pasta stuff for the book club was tasty!   Does it have to be Thanksgiving specific dishes?   How about pumpkin pie?  That's pretty easy.

  • Brianna and Angie, thanks for validating my feelings ;)

    Lacey, lol!

Tiffany, I like Lacy's ideas of "manly snacks" (which made me lol) or the movie basket.

Angie, what about sweet potato casserole? Easy and crowd-pleasing :)

  • Angie - Santa Fe Corn!

Two cans of yellow corn (drained)
Two cans of white corn (drained)
    Block of cream cheese
    1/2 cup of butter
    Three jalapenos - sliced

    Sprinkle with paprika.

Cook for 30 mins on 350... SO YUMMY, and so easy!

  • Anna, you are not in any way overreacting. That's a craptastic situation, not just for you guys, but for the client. It sounds like the family member is a complete flake, and not near as dedicated to "the cause" as your DH would have been. I'm really sorry you're having to deal with this.

  • Angie, my co-worker made pumpkin whoopie pies and they were Ahh-mazing!!!  She used Martha Stewart's recipe.
  • Pumpkin Pie is taken - but I like both the idea of the sweet potatoes or the corn!
  • The basket with beef jerky sounds delish. Although - i'm kinda bias because i <3 beef jerky :)

I posted yesterday morning but was so busy yesterday afternoon i couldnt get back on here until the evening. Thanks for all the good luck wishes ladies! :) We put an offer in, but we didn't make the cut off time for the bank (its a short-sale about to be foreclosure) so the bank should have gotten our offer this morning and we should hear something in a few hours i would hope. Any extra magic dust would be appreciated :)
