Chit Chat Thursday

Re: Chit Chat Thursday

  • I have THE best sweet potato casserole recipe ever if anyone wants it.  It's not traditional wtih marshmallows, it has a coconut/pecan topping instead.  Best EVER.  But not if you're allergic to coconut or nuts obviously.
  • Anna,

Add one more to the list of "You have the right to be pissed off".

    Tiffany,

I agree with Brianna.  If it's a surgery due to his eating habits, food might not be best option.  Last year, when my dad was in the hospital for two months, I still took him flowers.  He said they brightened his day.

Unfortunately, it's not eating habits.  It's far more serious than that.  Although I think you guys are right, food of any kind is not a great idea.

I posted yesterday morning but was so busy yesterday afternoon i couldnt get back on here until the evening. Thanks for all the good luck wishes ladies! :) We put an offer in, but we didn't make the cut off time for the bank (its a short-sale about to be foreclosure) so the bank should have gotten our offer this morning and we should hear something in a few hours i would hope. Any extra magic dust would be appreciated :)

How exciting! I have been lurking on the Buying a Home board and there are a lot of stories about SS that take much longer to hear back from on offers (but there are plenty that are straightforward, quick, and easy too). I hope you do hear back today!

Last month, we submitted our offer at 4 pm, had a counter offer at 7 pm, and sealed the deal at 10 a.m. the next morning. It was a little nerve-wracking (I handled all the counter offers) but kind of fun, too.

This one is supposedly supposed to move quickly. Because the bank wants it gone by the end of year. They are losing money on it and dont want to pay more fees and taxes. Not to mention the city is fining them every week for not cutting the grass. If they do take the offer and everything else goes smoothly we're said to close dec. 5.

  • Anna, that stinks for you, YH, and the client.  Bad juju to your family person.

Tiffany, instead of a flower arrangement, what about a plant?  Adds something lively and colorful to the room without being to "girly"?

  • Stephie - can I have it, please?  I signed up for sweet potato casserole.  I found a recipe that just uses pecans instead of marshmallows, but pecans + coconut makes me think of German chocolate cake, which I love, so I might do that instead!

No real suggestions (I can't say that we loved all the money we sunk into DH's old car at good year), just wanted to say that stink.

Anna - I'm sorry to hear about your DH losing out on that wedding, that's really crappy of DB to change plans again.

I love the fries.  I recently found sweet potato pancake mix- they were just okay and that was only because of the cook ;)  DH's grandmother talked about sweet potato doughnuts on our last visit so I want to figure out how to make those to try as well as send her some.

    That sounds quite delish!

Well boo -  the person at the bank who was supposed to review our offer/bid on the house went home sick today. And they wont be back until monday. Rats.

For tires, I would only go to Discount Tire.  When you buy the little tire insurance (I think it was $8 a tire), they will replace/repair your tire if something happens to it for the life of the tire.  They're quick and I haven't met anyone who hasn't had a good experience there.  For brakes, I've had good experiences at Pep Boys but I would not buy tires from them.  Another good break place, is Kwik Kar Kwick Break.  I know they have one in College Station (not very helpful) but I think I've seen a few around here too.  For shocks....well, I don't really know and I'm sure you only want to go to one place but I would definitely consider Discount for those tires.

  • Looking for some good vibes ladies.

We are meeting up with a guy and his pug tomorrow that he is wanting to find a good home for. The dog was acquired from a vets office for the guys son-in-law when he was in Afghanistan and when he returned him and the daughter split and he decided he didn't want the dog either. Sounds like the poor little guy has been passed around and just needs a family.

We are taking our pug Emmitt with us to meet him and if they seem to mesh well we may have another furry family member! They are about the same age so I hope it works out so he can have a buddy.

  • So, my SIL just announced that she is 7 weeks pregnant on FB.  Well, she isn't technically my SIL - her and BIL are not married because they can't decide that they don't hate each other long enough to set a date and plan a wedding, even though they've been together for 8 or so years and have 2 kids together (this will be #3).  They fight like crazy, and then break up from time to time and go have flings and then get back together.  Also, neither have steady jobs.  I am so upset over this situation, for so many reasons.  My stomach hurts over it.

Oh, wow, that's really great! I say that with a jealous face ... H and I loved a SS house in a really great neighborhood, but that SS's bank couldn't even get it together enough to let us view the inside of the house. We could only imagine what negotiations would be like. It's as if they couldn't care less if the house was sold or not.

I dont think people should get married just because they have kids together - its not healthy to be married to someone JUST to be married to them....but this relationship doesnt sound healthy either....that's just IMO though lol

If they don't like each other enough to get married, they shouldn't keep having kids together. You can only claim stupidity the first time, after that you should know better.

  • Thanks again everyone! I'm actually feeling a little better about it, it's amazing what a few hours away will do for your spirits!

Chelsea, you're absolutely right, my first thought was that I would be so mad if I was the client. The other guy says that the clients are friends of his, as if that makes it ok, but to me that makes it worse. It just shows how easy it is for him to screw over a friend.
