a "push gift" for having a baby?

Re: a "push gift" for having a baby?

  • It seems a little weird to me. But while we're at it, I want a Lexus with a giant bow for Christmas--TV says that happens in real life too;)

  • I think it's dumb. I hadn't heard of it until recently, after I had my kids, but I wouldn't have wanted dh to get me an expensive gift, with all the expenses of having a baby!  I was just happy to bring 2 healthy babies into the world.
  • According to google, push presents have a long historical connection to England however they were only published about in the US in the 90s.

I received a mother/child necklace upon the birth of our adopted child.

Such gifts don't have to full of diamonds or be expensive. I think it is simply something nice that a husband gives to his wife upon her becoming a mother. I don't think it is something that is required but it certainly is nice.

  • i have given my (male) co-worker a lot of grief for giving his wife an ipad as a "push present".  i think it's beyond ridiculous.

  • WTF? I thought the BABY was the present you get after pushing? So if you have a c-section and didn't have to push, are you not worthy enough of a gift? Sounds like something spoiled rich women thought up as another excuse to get their husband to buy them more shiny toys!
