lol...
So I signed up for a begining quilting class at the quilt store by me. It is only 2 three hour classes so that should have been my warning right there I think, but they assured me that me and my inexperience could do it. So I find out at class we just do examples and then have to do the quilt at home. Basically making a placemat in class and the quilt (a rail fence quilt) at home. I did more sewing in class on saturday then I had total up to that point.
Now I have till saturday to finish the top center part of the quilt. I spent a good portion of Sunday cutting all the strips and then started sewing. I sewed a bunch last night and have all the long strips together, now I have to cut them into blocks and sew all the blocks together.
It's like a full time job! I wish we just had more than a week to do it because I think that's all I'm going to be able to do outside of work this week! Just wanted to whine a little bit.
I'm excited to get it done though, I hope it comes out niceas it's for my baby boy due in Feb:)
Re: begining quilting my butt..
Stand up for something you believe in.
I have now made 6 or 7 baby quilts and still get frustrated around the time I am finishing piecing the last blocks, and when I am almost done quilting, and then when I am pinning the binding. It just takes so long, and by the time I get to those points, I am usually getting bored with that quilt and want to move on to the next one!
But it is all worth it when you finish one! I just finished a cute, simple quilt for a friend (I'll post pics soon) and it is so nice to be done.
Stick with it! It does get easier! Get done what you can this week, but don't stress about it. When quilting becomes a task instead of fun, you lose the purpose!
All projects take longer than you would think. After this quilt, I would start working on a baby quilt. I would also recommend more classes or try a block of the month club. Different instructors have different ways of explaining things.
You can do this and you will only improve your skills.
