Wedding hair opinions?

I know I have almost a year to go, but I've been thinking about what to do with my hair (since I have a haircut tomorrow). It's still pretty short. Should I grow it? Keep the same? I thought about keeping it on the short side and putting a headband in or some type of flower or clip, but I don't know.

What was your hair like for your wedding? Any suggestions for me? If I just kept it trimmed, it could be shoulder length by next October. I just feel like I look so drab in shoulder length hair.

Re: Wedding hair opinions?

  • If you want to put it back, I'd say grow it. If you want it down, keep it short. There's lots of cute ways to style short hair! My sister has chin-length layered hair and wore a really cool headpiece with this 20s-style flower. Very nice.
  • I grew my hair out so it would be easier to put it up.

  • YOu can still have an updo with shoulder length hair.
  • I would say it all depends on how much you want to do with your hair on the wedding day. That being said,  you can always get extensions etc. put in if you want to do something more elaborate on the day of, and still keep your short hair.

Do you have anything in mind that looks like something you might want to do? Are you doing a veil (I seem to remember a birdcage veil appealing to you?)?

  • I absolutely adore all the new headbands and clips that are popular now (especially ones with rhinestones).  If you're comfortable with shorter hair, just keep it however you like it.  You'll save money that way too!  I know hair extensions are really popular, but I just think that on your wedding day, you should look like yourself but fancier.

  • It really depends on what you think you'll want to do w/ your hair.

At the time of my wedding, my hair was definitely long enough for an updo.  But I never, ever wear my hair "up".  I mean, I pull it back in a ponytail when it's annoying me, but my "look" is w/ my hair down.

So- I wore my hair down for my wedding.  I really want to look like me on that day, and having a fancy updo would just have so not been me, and I would have felt uncomfortable.

My hair is fine and doesn't hold a style super well, but my stylist curled the crap out of my hair and put a lot of hair spray to hold it.  The curls fell - as expected - but it always looked like it was supposed to look like that.

My hair was styled and "fancy", but it was still me.

So.... you need to figure out what you think youll be most comfortable with.

  • Betty - no veil for me. ECB, I would like to feel most like myself as well and I never (even when my hair was long) have worn my hair up. So I was thinking a headband or some type of flower or something placed around/behind my ear.

  • I don't think you should change your hair length just because you feel like you should wear it up. I say keep it the way you like it and work around it.

I have long hair and I wouldn't do an updo because that's just not me. I'm more comfortable with my hair down. If you're more comfortable with shorter hair then I say find a pretty accent for your hair to dress it up more.

    I didn't wear a veil either! :)

  • I had long hair and got a fairly intricate updo, but the front still looked the way it often looked (bangs loose, sweeping to one side) when I pulled my hair back on normal days.

I say if you love your hair short, keep it short.  Like everyone else said, you still want to look like yourself on your wedding day.

  • I had pretty short hair at the time, I just had it all curled with a birdcage veil.
  • My hair is long and it was up for my wedding, but it's always long and it's always up. I had a relatively simple up-do, decorated with a big flower. No veil for me either.

I prefer to see wedding hair and makeup look like a fancier version of what the bride typically looks like.

How short is your hair normally? Could you keep it your normal length and have it dressed up with a few curls, or a nice clip or headband?

SRS - it's very short, I don't think long enough to hold any type of curl. A clip or headband would work for sure.

If you're still aiming toward a tea-length dress like the one HS posted awhile back (with the hot pink crinoline) I think something like this would be really cute...

  • I think short hair could be really cute for a wedding. I didn't cut mine for way too long because I wanted it longer for the wedding. It was kind of annoying, but at least I have nice long hair in my pictures Stick out tongue

  • I had chin length hair and I just styled it the way I normally do- although I had just gotten it cut, so it looked better than normal.

A headband could be cute. I always worry about flowers getting droopy and falling out. Do something that you won't feel the urge to mess with every 5 minutes. In other words, make yourself comfortable.

    Probably not helpful, huh?

I think this is super cute. I had longer hair for my wedding and left the back down and the front was pulled back. As everyone else said, do what you feel most comfortable with, after all your wedding day is about you...and your FI of course.
