Re: OL Tuesday

  • Dear Pinterest crock pot ribs,

You were very disappointing. And on the first night I've made dinner in months no less. I had the sad face.

    - wife of one month already giving up on 'housewifery'

    Sick Nesties-

I was so sick a couple of days ago and had to work through it due to staffing issues. It.was.awful. I hope all of you get back to 100% soon! My recipe was Dayquil, Netipot, Vick's Vapor rub, Zicam lozenges, and cepacol cough drops.

Word of advice though - if you are pukey... don't use a neti pot.

  • Oh & to Stephie & Bobbileigh, & anyone else who cares,

Leslie has inspired me to write up my reviews for our honeymoon. I will try to get them done tonight since I'm off! I promise I didn't forget your requests!!

And everyone, I need some advice.

I've had all of my thank you cards written up & stamped for weeks now, but I wrote them at work & didn't have the addresses with me to be able to address them. Then a couple of weeks ago my computer, which holds the only copy of everyone's addresses, decided to quit working. I was holding out hope that we could save my computer, but I think we've given up and we've bought a new computer. Would you take the laptop somewhere & try to get it fixed soon, or just admit defeat and try to contact everyone again to get their addresses? I'm afraid everyone's going to think we're ungrateful jerks if I don't get them out soon. I am not looking forward to #2, and not very optimistic about #1.

  • Good luck Anna!

Cheese and bacon are key.  Plenty of both, and the soup will be amazing.  Oh, and cornbread goes realllllly well with it too!!

Ok, I have that all ready and crusty french bread to go with it.  I'm crossing my fingers.

I wonder if you could take the laptop somewhere, and they could mine the data for you?  I know it's possible, but I have no idea about cost, difficulty, or where to go - I am technologically disabled sometimes.  I probably wouldn't try to have it actually fixed, so if they couldn't retrieve the file, then I'd start contacting folks for their addresses.  Maybe you could enlist some help from family members or something, like ask your aunt to gather all the addresses for herself and her adult kids, that sort of thing?

  • Angela, could you ask relatives for most of the addresses?  My MIL actually printed my whole spreadsheet of addresses so she could sent out RD invites, so she's my go-to in case of a catastrophic flash drive emergency.

Tiffany, I am on the Respect the Bird train with you.  T-Day is one of my favorite holidays.

Stephie, thank you so much for the multiple kind words about our video.  You are just about the sweetest person I know.

Leslie, "Prego" means "Please" in Italian and is also a pasta sauce, so I think of those two things whenever someone uses the word.  And also, reminds me of highschool students/every girl with whom I went to high school who never really "grew up."

Aaaaand: Dear DH, you sure know how to relieve my terrible mood.

You can have your hard drive recovered.  My old laptop crashed completely and I was so sad because it had all my itunes and all pictures of when DH and I first started dating.  DH worked his computer magic and saved all my hard drive stuff to a jump drive.  I still have it all on there but it is also now on our new computer and our external hard drive.  I'm not sure how much it cost or where you take it to get the hard drive recovered but I do know it's possible.

  • Anna - Best of Luck! I really hope you get it!

Leslie - I know what you mean. I read it over there as well. It annoys me, but not enough to say something. I do that with a lot of things though. I thought the girl who go pissed about the advice to POAS was kind of funny honestly. She didn't even know for sure except that her phone said it and gets mad when people tell her to just verify it. Your response was very appropriate.

  • Dear Leslie - 1. THANK YOU for the Food Truck link!! it's on the day after my birthday, so I think that will be a perfect celebration date! Love love stuff like that. 2. I don't really care either way about "Preggers" etc. I do understand people getting worked up when others use the term in a flippant way, but sometimes I think the reaction/response to its use (on GP) is a bit over-the-top.

Dear Chelsea - Best of luck with your in-law's. I'm in a similar boat with DH's family and so I admire your dedication to at least trying to work things out.

Dear Nesties - I have been working like crazy and I am SO READY to take a break. Tomorrow is my day off and I have every intention to do not a darn thing other than decorate my craft room.

Mmmm, I so need to go there.  Thanks for sharing.  There is a site that lists all of the food trucks and where they are planning on being for a day:

    Food Trucks!

And now that I just went there to get the link, I see they posted about the opening too.  I gotta check this out!

    Nesties,
I B&M'd yesterday about leaving my tablet on the plane, and it not being found.  Well, I just got a call from the airlines and they have it!!!  It is being overnighted to me tonight!  I'm so relieved and take back all the mean things I thought and said about people being crappy and stealing it.

  • Thank you all so much, your support means a lot to me. And Stephie, thank you very much, I'm touched, truly. I'll keep y'all updated!

Leslie, thanks for the info! We love food trucks, and it benefits a lung cancer foundation (DH's dad died from lung cancer). So we're definitely going to pay that a visit.

You are probably not going to want to spend what it will cost to recover the addresses.  Unless you have critical data on there, it's not worth it.

  • My sister is planning to go back to school in the spring for nursing - being laid off has been kind of an inspiration for her to follow a dream she's been keeping to herself.  (Basics at Brookhaven, then not sure where she will go to nursing school, but she wants to get her BSN.)  Other than the FAFSA and talking with the financial aid office at school, does anyone have any other suggestions for finding non-loan assistance?  Obviously we'll google it, but I just wanted to see if anyone had any tips, advice, secret sources of funding, that sort of thing :)

  • Dear Anna - Good luck!  You will do great!

Dear Leslie - I saw that and I agree that the girl seems to be just like Angie described.  It irritates me a little when people use those descriptions, but not enough to care to say anything.

Dear Michelle - I'm SOOOOOOO glad they found your tablet!  That is awesome!

I'm glad you thought it was appropriate. I don't normally let myself be that mean but it was sheer idiocy. I mean seriously, why ask a bunch of girls who haven't gotten pregnant how to tell your husband who isn't ready for kids that you haven't taken a test but think you are knocked up?

  • Angela, I would google as many people as possible and then maybe ask each set of parents for what info they have.  I don't have a clue how much it would cost.  Also you've been married just over a month...breathe...you have time.  At least you are sending them ;)  Do you have anyone's RSVP cards or anything from your shower?  Maybe you can steal a few from there.

    Anna, good luck today!

    Dear laptop-

After hearing Angela's issues and watching SATC on Sunday when Carrie's laptop crashed, I'm very happy you are alive and kicking at 6 years old even though DH makes fun of me because he thinks you are ancient.

  • There is so much to comment on so sorry if I miss something:

Chelsea, you are better than me and maybe even Matt because we still havent confirmed if we are going to see them at all this holiday season.  Matt isnt pushing it and I just cant bring myself to take the lead like I usually do :(.

    Bootcamp girls,

I will be there tonight and I am very excited.  I am sad I will miss Thur because I have tickets to a 7:30 showing of breaking dawn that I bought before bootcamp was on my radar, but I shouldnt miss any others for the rest of the month.  Did anyone else pay the $75 for December?

Anna, lots og good vibes your way!

  • Angela - If you know what city/county everyone lives in you can get addresses from the tax records.   Then you would only have to figure out the renters.
  • Dear Nesties,

I'm looking for a salon to use for a Saturday mini-girls retreat bachelorette party. There will only be three of us, probably looking for mani/pedi/facial and maybe a massage. I want someplace calm and classy. Daired's is my favorite, but it looks like that's going to run $275 PLUS per person, which isn't impossible, but certainly not ideal since we're paying for dinner/lingerie shower for a huge group afterwards.

    Any thoughts?

    Angie,

I used http://www.fastweb.com/ when I was applying for financial aid. They have a TON of private scholarships (at least they used to). My main scholarships came from the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital since I was a patient there when I was little, and some parent association connected through Keller ISD. Have her check previous employers, parent's employers, and any club or association her or her parents have been with at any time. I've heard the Masons, police officers & VA have awesome scholarships for dependents. There are a lot of scholarships based on original essays too if she likes reading & writing.

Schools- If you're talking about DFW, the main BSN ones are TWU & UTA for public, and Baylor & TCU for private. The private schools used to offer enough aid to make them as affordable as public schools, but I've heard from former teachers that they have drastically cut aid in the last few years. If I could go back, I would have gone to TWU. Everyone I've talked to (including the NP that runs the ICU) that went to UTA for nursing hated it (sorry Natalie!) while my favorite teacher ever in nursing school loved TWU, and I wouldn't have 40K in student loans from private school. (& that was with 75% of it covered with scholarships!) OR I would've gone to a community college for my basics & then transferred to a BSN program. As much as I hate to admit it, my private university degree doesn't help out anymore than someone that went to community college and then UTA.

  • Angela, yay on reviewing the honeymoon I cant wait to hear

Chelsea, I dont know if carrollton is too far away but I really like carrollton square salon and spa.  They have quite a few packages that are very reasonable IMO.  I used them the week of the wedding for color, cut, facial and massage.

  • Bobbileigh - I am thinking about December, but I haven't decided.  I definitely want to continue, but... it could be very, very cold.

Mark has already counted himself out for December because he is a wimp when it comes to cold.

They said they have indoor shelters in an email I got at some point.  If its outside then I am out, so I will ask tonight.

  • Dear nesties,
Is there a search function on these boards?  I'm not seeing it.

    Boot camp girls,
Where do you go?  I've always wanted to do one of those.

And since I'm already feeling inquisitive,
What all do I need to bring to get my name changed?  I go to the records office and bring them my marriage license, my SS card, my what else?

    There is, but it's awful.

That should be everything you need.  You may not even need your SS card.

I got my drivers license changed first.  Any of their offices.  Take your current drivers license and your marriage certificate.  I then drove to the SS office (on 75 and maybe Royal?).  Need the same items.  Then I drove to the passport office, there is one downtown and one on Walnut hill and Marsh.  Convenient that there is also the department to get your car title and registration changed in the same building as well. (you will need your car title and name info)

  • Car titles.  I knew that was something I'd forget.
  • Amanda, I did DMV first and they did ask for my SS card.  Then took my temporary license to the SS office--and they looked at it as well.

I was still changing my name on things six months later.  Here were some of mine:  bank accounts, credit cards, bills, gym membership, car title, appraisal district, movie rental card, AAA card, Paypal, life insurance, firm E-mail--I'm sure there's more I'm not thinking of...  I still haven't done my passport.
