SA Wednesday!

Re: SA Wednesday!

Hey girls - thanks for all the T&P and concern, it means a lot to me. It turns out I had an ovarian cyst that ruptured last night. My doctor did an ultrasound and my uterus is full the of fluid that was inside the cyst which is causing the continued dull pain today. From the amount of fluid she estimated the cyst was likely about the size of an orange. I actually get cysts quite frequently (not generally this large) but unfortunately the only treatment for them is hormonal birth control, which obviously wouldn't work very well for us right now. She gave me a strong pain med shot -which is pretty awesome I must say - and also some pills to take but that is all she could really do.

Baby-talk, look away Tiffany: TTC was not really on my mind this appointment as I was more worried about getting the pain to stop but she brought it up at the end of the appointment since DH's test results were at the top of my chart. We talked about it and are going to start testing next cycle and if everything checks out well, she mentioned doing un-medicated IUI the following cycle. I am on the fence about whether I want to do this with my GYN or move on to a fertility specialist but the cost at my GYN is about $250 and the cost with a fertility specialist is about $1250, these costs are out of pocket, so I might consider doing a couple of cycles with my GYN then moving on to medicated cycles if needed. Lots to think about.

So glad you are doing well. I thought it was this. I get them from time to time too.. ie. a couple weeks ago. I understand the pain and glad it wasn't anything major.

That's a huge cost difference I can see why going with your OB even at first is a best option.

  • Actually, we did buy into the DVC but we have nine days to change our minds.  Big reason we might change our minds:  we're not 100% sure how it will affect our getting new floors next month, starting the adoption process, and my probably getting lap-band in July (insurance is covering a little of it).  It makes a lot of sense for us and not just because it's Disney.  You can use it at several other places, including their new resort (hotel only) in Hawaii.  Holy cow, that place is amazing!!!!  We could use it on hotels in NYC and a few other places that we enjoy going.  We got such a good deal (they matched the down payment) and we can afford it if we make a few changes to our spending habits.
  • Leslie - I am so glad that you're feeling better and got something to help with the pain.  I can totally see your dilemma with the costs and everything.  Continued T&Ps for you.

Julie - yay for a Disney timeshare!  I think that would be so fun, and if it fits into your lives, then by all means, do it (or rather, don't un-do it, I guess!)

I am starving... noon is about my limit for waiting to eat, and I still have a few more minutes on this training call.  Ugh, come one guys, no more questions, I'm ready for lunch!!!!

  • Leslie- I'm so glad that's all it was! I was fearing ectopic pregnancy or something. Those cysts hurt like a B****! I used to have them when I was in high school.

    Julie- Yay!

  • Julie - Sounds like it would be a great investment. Would you get the same or better value for it once you decided to sale?  Good luck making a decision, I know with your love of Disney alone it'll be a hard choice.
  • Leslie, glad you are OK.  I had one a couple of years ago--it hurt to walk for like a week.

Julie, I think that's great--as much as you guys travel, and as much as you love Disney, sounds perfect!

I just ate lunch and I'm still hungry.  *sigh*

  • Leslie - I'm so glad you are okay.  I'm sorry you are still in pain, though.  :(
  • Leslie - I am glad you are okay! I'm sorry you had to be in so much pain. :(

Julie - I swear a posted this earlier but now I don't see it.... it is www.jaysbootcamp.com  .

  • Glad you're ok Leslie!

Julie - It sounds like a great deal with your trips to Disney (and possibly Hawaii!), hope it works out with everything else you're looking into next year.

  • Leslie - I don't know if you're in a place of wanting opinions/advice, so feel free to ignore this if you wish. As you know, one of my close friends has been trying for three years and just recently saw an RE. Her DH had his SA done 2.5 years ago and everything came back great. As I've mentioned before, she was diagnosed with PCOS and did 7 unsucessful cycles with Clomid. As it turns out, the RE told her that she does not have PCOS. He also did a repeat SA because the ones that OB/GYNs do are usually more broad/general. Turns out they have extremely serious male factor infertility that could have been diagnosed 2.5 years ago had they gone to the RE in the first place. My friend said that she would tell anyone having trouble getting pregnant to go to an RE, not spend years on OB/GYNs. This advice is not coming from me, but from someone who is in the trenches and looking at probably IVF now. Who knows, you could get pregnant on the first IUI, but I would hate to see you still waiting another 2 years from now.
  • Hey Anna - DH actually had his semen analysis done at an RE's office, so we are probably okay there. If my initial testing comes back wonky I will definitely head to the RE but at $1000 per IUI savings, I think I will probably do a cycle or two with my GYN. If meds end up being needed or if we do a couple of cycles and don't have success, I plan to move on to the RE but I do appreciate the advice.

  • I know y'all will make the best decision for you, and I'm sure your GYN is great, and I really didn't want to cross a line, I just really don't want to see anyone go through what she's been through. I sure do hope y'all get it all figured out soon!
