Poll: Something you *had* to have that you don't use.

Name something that you *had* to have, either as a gift, or you just ending up buying, but is now gathering dust.

  • The Julia Child cookbook.

  • I have a few things.  One being a clothes steamer.  I thought how great it would be to not have to take things to the dry cleaner for pressing.  **rolling eyes** - yeah, I think I used it maybe a handful of times, and now it's in the back of the closet.

I also *really* wanted a double boiler, b/c I love making desserts, and at the time I thought it would make cake balls easier to dip in melted chocolate.  My ILs got me a really nice Calphalon one for Xmas maybe 3 years ago?  Yeah - I have never even taken it out of the box - it is still sitting at the bottom of my pantry.  Embarrassed  Granted, I did have a baby shortly after that, so I don't do that many desserts anymore, therefore not much need, anymore, but I still feel bad that they spent the time and money picking it out, and I haven't used it.  :-(

  • the food dehydrator (well it was gathering dust until i set it out on the curb a couple of weeks ago).
  • A carpet steam cleaner, some kitchen gadgets, my old engagement ring...

  • Lately, my gym membership.  Haven't been in over a month.
    Daisypath Vacation tickers
  • Hoover Floormate.  It lives in the garage.

  • The Roomba.  It was great before kids, but it seems as if my house constantly looks like a daycare with toys everywhere. Once E gets older and we can move most of the toys upstairs I'll get back to using it again...I hope.

  • My Mio watch.  HAD to have it.  Just had to.  I bought it and used it for a week.  I don't even know where it is now.  It was $70.

Stand up boxing bag thing.  We had to have it.  We used it for a couple of weeks.

  • Oh and the Shark Ultra Steam Blaster.  This is the biggest pain to use, but I just had.to.have.it!!!

  • And the personal trampoline.  Really?  I've used it maybe 20times over the course of 4 years.  But I was certain I was going to use it, gosh darn it!

yeah, i bought one of those things you wear on your arm that tracks your movement for the day. granted, i was kind of "sold" the idea by someone else but it made so much sense. $200 down the drain and i can't even find all the pieces to put it on CL.

My mom asked what DH and I wanted for Christmas so she could buy it when she was here. I said a Cuisinart. Still in the box...

Oh! I know people who would have bought it from you!

  • A fossil purse that I drove all over town looking for... I carried it for two months, maybe.

A pair of 4.5/5-inch heels. That one gets a big WTF face. They were pretty. And inexpensive as far as pretty shoes go. But I can't walk in them.

I also have a road bike and a mountain bike - I haven't ridden the mountain bike since the month I got pregnant with L.

A jogging stroller/bike trailer thingy - that almost never gets used either.

  • China!  I want to sell all of it.
  • I will totally take that off your hands, I could use it for work!

My Wii Fit comes to mind now. We have the Kinect and never use the Wii anymore.

ETA: posted this from the iPad and apparently quoting doesn't work.  I meant to quote the post about the mini-trampoline!

  • Formal silverware. All still in the box. Wonder if I could still return it....6 years later. :-/
Zebra print desk chair. Used during one year (the last year) I taught school. Now it sits in a closet.

    BabyFruit Ticker
  • Bread maker!  I have used it all of 2 times.  I had to have my ice cream maker but that one is fun in the summer even if I haven't used it in about 2 years.

  • Flip video camera. I used it a few times but not nearly as much as I thought I would. Now I just use my phone if I want a quick video.

  • A built in wine fridge.  This was something I had to have in the new house.  Well, a year later it is still in the box.  Although... not my fault!  DH has to hire someone to come cut up our cabinets and install it.  Once he does that, it will get used all the time.

  • For me it's my iPad. It's not functional enough to use for everyday word processing/e-mail/etc. so I don't use it much...other than as a "kindle" type reader. My DD uses it more for games than anything. I should've spent that $700 on something else.

  • Pool table and DH won't get rid of it.  Although that was more a het had to have it than me.
