Yes. A dryer and a dishwasher are two luxuries I won't ever give up.

Crying I dont have a dishwasher either.

Wait, what?  You should move!  You poor thing...

  • We have the all-in-one dryer, and it is useless. I've only tried to use it a couple times and it doesn't do anything. I just end up hanging the clothes up to dry on the rack, anyways! I would love one as I hate my crunchy, stretched-out clothes.

We also don't have a dishwasher. I think I would give my arm for one. We have three of us at home for every meal (husband works from home) probably 18-19 meals a week. So. Many. Dishes! I would have so much more time if I had one.... someday.....

  • LadyMadrid: I would love to move but it would be really hard to sell our house now.

  • I do not have either a dishwasher or a dryer. I have two small children. I cloth diaper. I live in a cold climate. I could say that my life revolves around laundry, but I prefer to just say that I rock.

(I could not do this if I wasn't a stay at home mom.)

  • Our apartment building has both (there's only 8 apartments). We also have a washer, but we haven't used it since moving from Geneva a year and a half ago, because the communal one is always empty and is bigger. I rarely use the dryer unless I need something quickly. There's a large room with lines to dry clothes, it works well.

  • Yes, we have a dryer though I try not to use it as much as possible because electricity is so darn expensive.  We also put in a dishwasher last year when we re-did the kitchen.  Best money we ever spent!

  • No dryer here and our winters are very rainy. Two wire clothes racks in the kitchen for rainy weather. It does make laundry a bit of a pain, but you get used to it after awhile.

  • Yes.  I have a washer and a dryer, and a clothes line, and a drying rack for inside.

DH does the towel/socks/underwear load on Fridays when he's off, they line dry during the day, and on Saturday (when electricity is cheaper) I pop them in the dryer for half an hour to fluff.  Everything else gets line or rack dried when I have time to do the loads.  I usually do a dark load on Saturday or Sunday and a lights/delicates load on Monday nights.  I have enough sheets so that I can hold them to wash and line dry on pleasant weekends.

I do not have a dishwasher, and really don't miss it.  The dishwasher in my house in the US and I had a love-hate relationship and the last time I used it, the heating element would not shut off.  It was on for nearly 24 hours before I realized there was a problem.  I haven't trusted dishwashers since then.

I don't mind being held to a higher standard; I mind being held to a lower one. (Sam Seaborn, The West Wing)

  • We do here and did in Italy. For a while in between we were in temporary lodging and had a combo unit. Freaking sucked. The dryer was so useless. Had laundry hanging all over the hotel room and then used the dryer to get the last bit of moisture out.

Here there are mixed views about having a dryer. Many still dry outside which on one hand makes sense since there is so little rain, but on the other hand doesn't make sense because there is so.much.dust. If they layer of dust on absolutely everthing outside is any indicator, seems like the clothes would be just as dirty as before washing.

  • Yep it is in the same unit as the washer though so it takes a long while to do one load.

120-160 minutes to wash + 111 minutes to dry

Me neither...I am the dishwasher.  Since we are only going to be here for 2 years it didn't make sense to spend 400 Euro on something we might not be able to resell when we leave.
