Where are you now? -- southeast of Melbourne, Australia
Why did you decide to move? -- my husband is Australian and it made more sense to start our lives together in his home than in mine

Why did you decide to move? - DH and I wanted to work for a specific large scale Canadian entertainment company that has a permanent show here. It was more to work for the company than it was to move to Macau

Why did you decide to move? - It was easier for me to come here to be with DH than for him to live with me in MI.

Why did you decide to move? -- My H is an Aussie and his kids are here, so ...
Where are you from? -- A city in Wisconsin along Lake Michigan.

Why did you decide to move? -- After our year stint in Zurich I wanted to move back to be closer to my family and finish up my degree. Because of DH's degree the best job market for him was in Chicago. So that's how we ended up here.

Why did you decide to move? My husband is Australian and his kids live here so it was easier for me to move to him.
I'm from So Cal and currently live in So Cal because of DS, but have lived all over the place; most recently in Vancouver, BC and London. Lived in London because my DH is English. Lived in Vancouver because we wanted to and DH got a job there.
Before I met DH I lived in Prague and Brussels
I'm from Pennsylvania and currently live in New Jersey.
I lived in Israel for a while when I was married to my XH. He is half Israeli and wanted to move there for work.
I live in Alexandria, VA, but in early 2012, my DH, our toddler and I are moving to Germany.
My DH is in the military, so we move often. This overseas assignment was a surprise to both of us as there aren't many overseas options for DH's career field and rank. We thought we were headed to Central Virginia. I guess I'd better get crackin' on those passports, huh?

I am from Minnesota, met my dh while studying in London. I moved there after I finished University (London) and we lived there for 6 years together. Then we shipped all our stuff, did a big trip, and moved to Sydney,Australia where he grew up. We've been here 3 years now and have a dd. It's been 10 years since I moved overseas - time flies!

Why - My H is from here, his family is here and his job is here. My family is all over the place and I can work from anywhere that has internet, so it made more sense this way than the other way around.
I mainly just lurk, but wanted to jump in!
I am from the Bay Area, Ca and have lives in Phoenix and Las Vegas.
In a few months my H and I will be moving to Germany. He is in the military, we will be heading there for 3 years.
What branch in your H in? We are headed to Germany soon too! I just did all the super fun No Fee Passport and EFMP paperwork.

To the military gals - I've heard that they no longer pay to move your personal items from place to place, is this true?? Because if it is then that is SO wrong!
And it seems like most of you are moving for similar reasons to me. My FI started doing a little selling online and it turned into a full fledged business, and it made absolutely no sense for him to move to the US with me and work an entry level position somewhere when he could stay in England and work for himself.

Why we decided to move: My DH is a college professor, and he got offered a job at Education City here in Doha. So we decided to go for it! It's been a fun adventure, and we're currently waiting to see if our adventure will continue, or if we'll head back to the US.

Why did you decide to move: DH is from Guatemala, I was working in the Caribbean while we were engaged and so we decided we would live wherever he got into grad school. We'll go back to Latin America once we're both done with school... eventually
I can only speak for the Army (although I am sure it is the same in all branches), but they are paying for everything with the exception of shipping our pets. They actually pack up your entire house, load it up, move it, unload it, they pay for our flights there, temporary housing, for a car to be shipped, everything.
ETA: You can also move yourself and they will reimburse you based on weight and mileage (I have never moved this way, so I don't know the details, but I know they pay for that as well)! :-)

Why did you decide to move? For love... my DH grew up in Bangalore, and has a few businesses in Chennai, so we moved here from the Bay Area in 2006, got married and now have a 1 year old son.

Why? DH found a job here that paid better than his job in the States. We're saving up for a house then plan on moving back.

Why? DH is a German with a law degree, so it's much easier for me to find a job here than for him to find one in the States without an LLM.

Live: Chennai, India (Only for a few weeks longer.)
Why: H manages a product that is being manufactured here and was spending so much time in India that we ended up just coming over here back in July. I work for the same company as H, so they are allowing me to work remotely from India. We are heading back soon because we are expecting our first baby in January and I prefer to give birth in the US if possible.

Where do you live: Bahrain (itty bitty island next to Saudi Arabia)
Why did you move: DH and I both grew up in Saudi Arabia, when we "re-met", he had mentioned he wanted to move overseas again and I was all for it. He got a job and here we are!
He actually works in Saudi and we live in Bahrain, the commute is 45 mins-1 hr for him.

Why did you decide to move? There's a few reasons: great career opportunity for my husband, I needed a break from my job, and both of us needed a change of scenery and people.
I was born in Israel, grew up on Long Island, NY and lived in Pittsburgh PA for 6 years before moving over seas.
I am now in Edinburgh, Scotland
We didn't have an actual reason, we just wanted to live in another country. DH applied for jobs in English-speaking cities and we took the first offer. We were planning on being here for a couple years but it's been almost 6 and we're applying for British citizenship soon. We love it here!

From: I'm originally from PA, but have lived in NJ, VA (Alexandria) & MA (Boston area).

Why? My family is fully of people who have lived overseas for work for periods of time, from India to France...my grandmother is from England. So when a job opportunity came up for me to work in London, I grabbed at it. I met my DH here and I'm now a citizen & planning on staying for a long while.

Why did you decide to move? DBF finished college in 2007. It was the height of the Bush presidency idiocy and we were both ready to be done. We didn't want to get married (eh...still riding that wave) and there was no way he could stay in the US unless we got married. So here we are. We left for a bit, but we're back. For good.
ETA: I should mention my DBF is Norwegian, we didn't just up and move to a foreign country...despite how easy some newbs think that is. Nor was it an easy process.
