Why: Moved almost 3 years ago because DH had a great job opportunity. We anticipate it being temporary, and we'll move back to the US within the next few years.

Where I'm from: All over the US, but I lived longest in Seattle.
Where I am now: Madrid, Spain
Why did I move: I originally moved here to go to an American university in Madrid. Two months after I moved here I met my now H at a language exchange. We got married in May 2010 and I graduated this past summer in August. I'm sticking around here because we own an apartment and it just makes the most sense for us at the moment. We might move someday though.

Now- Frankfurt, Germany. We were in Sydney for about 5 years. I moved there to be with him because he was finishing up his law degree at Uni. Like another poster it was easier to stay instead of have to learn American law. Then he got offered a job with a British firm in Germany. Now after a bridging course, he is also an English lawyer. He practises British law in Germany. Hopefully one day he'll get a transfer to England.
Why- His job
From: Me (originally MI, but spent the last 10 years in TX) DH is born and raised in TX

Why: His work really wanted him to move, and we thought it would be a good opportunity for me to stay home with DS son for a while. We were in a rut back home and lord knows this broke it LOL!

Why: DH is on temporary assignment. We were supposed to be here for 1 1/2 to 2 years, but we've been here for 2 1/2, and expect to be here at least another 16 months. We really wanted the experience of living within a different culture, especially for the kids.

Why we moved: DH's job in the States offered a 2 year stay here. So I quit my great paying job, rented our home, stored all of our furnishing in our house, shipped our dog over here and have been here for 6 months. DH has been here for 1 year at the end of the month. I had to finish things with my job so I have only been here since May.

Why did you decide to move? I've been in the UK for 11 years. I initially moved to do a PhD, met DH and have stayed. We're where we are currently for his job.

We originally moved to Vietnam for my husband's job in 2001. After his contract was up, we just loved it so much that we decided to stay and find jobs. 7 years and a baby later we moved here (where H grew up).

I'm from Philadelphia and have also lived in Pittsburgh for 6 years during and after college.
We are in London.
I came here after living in Aus, I always wanted to go there, most of my friends were Brits so I decided I would try London next. I went home became a teacher and then moved to London with the intention of staying 18 months to two years. Six weeks later I met my H and ended up staying longer. I will be here 4 years in Dec. We think we will be here 5-10 more years, but have been saying that for at least 2 years so who knows.

DH and I are from Australia and currently living in Jakarta Indonesia.
We moved here for DH work, we have also lived in South Africa before this, I am not sure how long we will be here, depends on the projects DH is working on.
I'm from Wisconsin & Chicago. I quit my job in Chicago to be with DH in Ottawa, Canada. We spent 2 years there. Now we live in Cape Town, South Africa. DH wanted to get out of working for the government and found a position in Cape Town (he's a professor). It was a choice between Canberra, Australia (which would have been too much like Ottawa), Stockholm, and Cape Town. We went for Cape Town!

Why did you decide to move? I've lived in West Africa & DH is from India. We were living in the Midwest before we got married. DH had gone to school in Boston & wanted to move back to New England. He got his dream job so here we are!

Moved here as a missionary based here, but went all over the world. Met DH at church. He is here because of work. I am no longer a missionary, but we are settling here because of DH's career. Just got back from 10 months in South Korea. DH is now a UK citizen and so is our DS.

Why: For sh!ts and giggles
We wanted an adventure and to live abroad, before we had kids or a mortgage or were to "settled". We holidayed here in 2006 and got engaged on the trip, so NZ has a special place in our hearts. Got married in 2007, and arrived as NZ residents in 2008 (3 days shy of our first anniversary). We bought a house and had a kid here, so we are staying forever, I hope
