AW/Chit Chat/ Whatever Wednesday
Re: AW/Chit Chat/ Whatever Wednesday
Wow, that's awesome. I'd be dumbstruck and not be able to say anything at all.
My Say Anything/Vent/Plea for Advice. Sorry it's long.
Everyone (H, my extended family) told me I should get bids from multiple people for the tile work I want done. So I've called/emailed a bunch. My voicemail/mailbox was malfunctioning, so I didn't get any of my messages until today, and now I have 4 tile people willing to meet with me. And I feel terrible and don't know how to coordinate getting bids from multiple people (they all have to come TO the house, and I have a short time frame I can be there ... I don't have enough vacation time to just hang around all day having people in. While the price is important, my time is more limited than money at this point.)
I feel awful not calling people back, let alone having them come to the house and then not choosing their bid. I feel so badly in these situations.
I wish I'd just done what I wanted, which was to just call ONE person and go with that one person unless their bid was astronomical. But I listened to other people and now I'm all stressed out and feeling guilty ... and I haven't even decided what to do.
WDYT? Should buck up and schedule more appointments and get the best price, or should I just go with the 1 appointment I already have and go with him unless I hate his price?
If I go with the one I already have, should I call the others that left me messages and tell them I already got the work done, but thanks anyway?
Deepthi, that is so exciting!
Marie, my suggestion is to do a mix of both. I would schedule two appointments that way you get more than one bid, but dont feel too overwhelmed. I would call the ones you don't choose back just as a courtest.
I don't have much going on after a rough couple of days I finally feel better. I am going to brave the store at lunch to get a turkey breast, so I can just make turkey, mashed potatos and cranberry sauce. This is the first year I am not going all out with 10-15 different dishes and I am kind of excited to just relax, watch tv, read and clean over the long weekend. I will be doing some black friday shopping but in my pajamas via the internet.
The lack of traffic on the road made me a little sad because I know that means a lot of people have today off, yet I still have to work! :-(. And there's like no chance we will get to leave early :-(
But my dad and brother are coming over for dinner tonight, so I'm pretty excited!
I had contacted someone to get my tattoo done because he has a great price on it, but he said he's booked until January :-(. I didn't want to wait that long!

Mark & I were at boot camp by ourselves last night. *cough cough gestures to absent Nesties*
I'm really excited. Yesterday I got a $170 pair of jeans for $56. Tiffany for the win!
Marie - I always feel bad too, but they do this for a living. They are used to it. Also, you can get an idea from them. Tell them the square footage and what your looking for and they will give you a ballpark price without actually seeing the space. That is what we did with several contractors.
I went to bootcamp Monday morning and today! With the holiday short week, dog training was only yesterday evening and I didn't want to miss a week with the trainer. So difficult to get everything fit in!

I made pumpkin bread last night and today is prepping the new baked mac & cheese recipe I got off of pinterest.
Hoping today at work flies by! Sadly I have to work on Friday, so I only get Thursday off (although that's better than DH who has to work from 7-1 on Thanksgiving).

I will be back on Sat for sure! I am so thankful I am finally feeling better, its been a really rough week and a half. I missed bootcamp a ton.
Marie - I'm of absolutely no help, I just wanted to say I can't wait to see your new tile.
I'm working a short day today, which is good... and bad. I am almost done with a project that has to be completed by today, so I need to focus and take care of the last few things. But, I feel like I have senioritis. Blah.
I'm glad you are feeling better!
Michelle - Awesome!
**still giving Sarah the side eye**
We get off at noon!! Woohoo!! They usually tell us at 11:55 am so actual notice is nice.
I went shopping yesterday for clothes and ornaments. I bought 3 ornaments at one place and discovered they only wrapped and put 2 in the bag so I am missing 1. I've called and left a message and hopefully they have it. Also, Earthbound Trading Company has the coolest ornaments.
Marie, personally I would get multiple quotes. I don't like having to tell people no either but I also want the best price. If you only have a short time frame for the estimates call and schedule the appointments 20-30 out from each other. They may over step someone else's appointment but at the same time they know they are competing for your business so you might get the best price possible. My dad did a lot of contract work and if he knew he was going against another person he always tried to be the lowest bidder because he wanted the job. That is all part of their job. Don't feel bad because they are use to it I promise!
We normally get to leave by 3 at the latest the day before a holiday but for some reason today they choose to keep the office open "normal" hours. It's annoying because we all worked our butts of the beginning of the week to make sure we could leave early and now we are sitting her with very little work and still have to work our normal hours. Oh well I get paid to Nest now!
My sister asked me to be Matron of Honor last night. She teared up and it was so cute! I told her I was fine being just a bridesmaid but she wants my help so I'm there. We are already looking at venue options and colors! I'm excited I have something else to help keep me busy until this baby gets here because I've been warned the last month seems to drag!

I have really enjoyed my three days off so far. It's been full of lunch dates and breakfast dates and now, I have to make the pies. No putting it off any longer. Well, until this afternoon!
I had something else to say, but now I can't remember what it was. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!!!
Oh, oh, I remember what it was!!!!
We'll be joining you guys on Dec. 5th. Well, Bill will but I have basketball. However, I will be there after that.
Marie - I say just meet with them. It's the same thing when we were picking wedding vendors right?
BL - Are you not going home for the holiday? A relaxing day sounds nice
Sarah and Lacey- I feel the same being here. I don't want to do anything but wait for 4:30 to hit.
Tiffany - What pants did you buy?? Congrats on the great deal I wish I shopped like some of you ladies.
Lauren - I'm making the same things.
I really don't want to do a whole today so lets get the conversation going! lol

No, I asked Matt if he wanted to go see his family and he said maybe for Christmas but not now. I am hoping to go back to Omaha to see friends sometime next year.
Lame of your job!
Very sweet of your sister. I loved being my older sisters MOH because when it's someone you care about that much it's just fun to plan all of that for them. I can't wait to be my little sisters MOH.

Yea I don't really feel like working either. instead I am researching other tattoo places because I don't want to wait until January!
DH gets to leave at three today but I'm stuck here until five :-(

My baking wont start until later.
I've added lemon and red velvet snickerdoodles to my baking list. I'm so excited!
Looks like DH has to work from home tomorrow, but all he'll have to do is be on the phone a few times, so I'm happy it isnt gonna interrupt our family time.
My tree is going up either tomorrow night, or first thing Friday morning. I'll be going to sleep about 6 tomorrow night, so I can wake up at 9 for the Black Friday shopping! We'll be out from about 9 tomorrow night, to 6 Friday morning. My MIL and SILs do it every year. We'll go to IHOP about 2 or 3am. And we'll most likely be going to Hillsboro to the outlet mall.
Wow now that's a BF trip! We are only shooting for Toy R Us since we have about 10 kids to buy presents for and it's actually great deals! Thank Brianna for posting that I know it's helping me out a ton. DH was over joyed *eye roll* to hear we are going at 5 am!

I used to love Black Friday shopping but I'm over it now and shop almost 100% online.
I am soooo mad I can't buy wine off the internet anymore. I get Ben a bottle of his favorite wine every year for Hannukah. It really, really angers me because it's not something I can probably find locally.
MarieSD, I'm with everyone else--get at least 2 bids. We had the opposite problem--everyone we called either flaked out or never even called us back! We had one contractor come and walk our whole house and then never call us back with a quote even after Ben left him a message.
I really hope I can leave early today even though I don't really have anything I need to do--I just want to!

Which kind is it?
This is me. I'm stopping on my way home today for a couple of items and I will try my best not set foot in a store for gifts on a weekend until after Christmas. When I buy, it will either be online or on week nights.
Sorry to be posting so much. It is really boring here. We had the same problem. We had one guy wanting to charge us $1500 for our small kitchen reno and at first we thought it was reasonable (our first time working with a contractor), he ended up flaking and good thing he did. The next two were in the $200 range, plus, we found the builder of the house. We had two we called twice and they never got back to us.

Deepthi, I know, it was so weird. We wanted to get at least a couple of bids and couldn't even get ONE!
Shortgirl, it's Rosenblum Cellars Maggie's Reserve. It's a zinfandel. I am going to look around locally some but I don't have high hopes of finding it.

Stephie - I would call the winery and see what/if any distributors they work with in Texas. They should be able to tell you exactly what stores sell their wine here. Hope that helps!
The traffic today made me think the exact same thing!
I'll be working a long day today, and Friday.. and DH works long days Fri, Sat, and Sun.
As for the tattoo, have you checked Ace's in Denton? It's a bit of a drive, but I've only recommended them to everyone I know. They do amazing touch ups and cover ups.. Daniel is the one that's done all my work, and my bff's.
I was going to suggest something similar to what Tiffany did.
It's not a specialty/kosher/Jewish wine is it? If so, I can have DH ask.
Stephie, to add to Tiffany's suggestion, I wonder if it would be possible to have a liquor store special order it for you. I would imagine that the laws are different for them.
I've been doing Thanksgiving prep all week. Monday I bought groceries, yesterday morning I started brining the bird, last night I made the crust and roasted the pumpkins for the pie. Tonight I'll be making the pumpkin pie, dough for the rolls and a mulled white wine sangria. I'll also do any other prep that I get to. We're not eating until 7:30 tomorrow, so I'm excited to just take my time and watch the parade and the dog show while I cook
I also plan on allowing myself to slack a little at work today!
