B&M Monday

I had to return to work after a week off.  Boo.  The heater has been running in my room since at least 7 AM.  I've turned on the fan, I've called the AP, and I think it just started going faster.  My room is stupid.

Re: B&M Monday

  • I only had 4 days off, but they sure felt like a week! We got everything done that I wanted to do for the new house. In case anyone's interested, we:

    • Bought a living room set (great deal from JC Penney, well under budget)
    • Bought appliances (fridge, washer, dryer, stove, and microwave) -- about in budget on that, although the new stove was a bit of a splurge since we didn't strictly need it
    • Interviewed contractors and hired one to do the tile floors. Bought all the materials and he worked Saturday and Sunday and might finish today.
    • Removed wallpaper in one room and discovered there's at least 3 other layers of really stubborn wallpaper underneath. Hired the contractor to also handle that job (when he finishes the floor).
    • Bought H a new desk off Craigslist

I have to let in the contractor and hopefully stop by the post office before work today. Our subdivision has a shared mailbox for which you need a key, and we weren't left any key that fits with it. I'm hoping the post office has it, or else we have to call our REA.

It's going to be so hard to focus on work today. I want to see my floors!!!

  • Marie - Sounds like a very productive house weekend for you!

My weekend was nice, did a little shopping and wrote out our Christmas cards.  Finally got to see Breaking Dawn and did some more packing.

  • We had less than a week, but I'm with you, Julie.  The kids have a lab report due tomorrow and I'm dreading the number that will just not do it because they're in countdown to Christmas mode.

Also: Loft.com is having network problems because of all the traffic.

Also: Does anyone get emails from Gap?  Their coupon code for Cyber Monday is "HUGECYBER," which I found really humorous.

  • My four days off went by way too fast!  DH and I got in a stupid fight on Friday night, which was not fun :-(

I didn't do any shopping at all because I don't like dealing with crowds!  Were any of you listening to Kiss FM this morning when they were telling all the Black Friday stories?  Like someone getting shot?  That's crazy!

  • I ventured out into the Black Friday crowd, and I didn't think that it was bad at all.  In fact, the Walmart that I went to was really well organized.  But, I've always said - the first time things go bad for me on Black Friday is when I will stop doing it.

I'm just sleepy today.  I wish I had another day to sleep in.  :)

The best/worst one was the lady pepper-spraying the crowd of people so she could get an Xbox, and then getting away.  Apparently she turned herself in, though.  SIL and I decided that next year we're going to go sit in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart and just watch the chaos.

  • I have nothing to B&M about. Yeah, that's right, after two days with my in-laws. I got an apology for the way she's acted the last couple years, I got complimented on my weight loss, I got asked for PARENTING ADVICE.

Maybe she was stoned, I don't know. But I'll freakin' take it. Best visit we've had with them since before we got engaged.

  • I feel a little bad that I have so much to B&M coming off of Thanksgiving weekend but then again, it was Thanksgiving weekend with family.

I have had this pain in my right ovary area since Friday night.  It's not outrageous pain or anything but it's constant and the pain level ebbs and flows.  I feel better standing or laying down but with my job, I sit a lot but I will find reasons to get up and move more than I normally do.

For about 6 months now I have been the outcast of my family (it's really longer than that but for the sake of this story, I'll stick with 6 months).  My aunt, who has always hated my mom with a passion, offered her the chance to come stay at her house while she was out of the country.  Aunt gave her access to her car, cell phone, got her a job and even paid my mom to stay there.  My aunt started getting along with her dad, they visited frequently and aunt started throwing money around, which was making all of them happy.  I didn't buy into all the changes and everyone wasn't happy that I didn't jump in head first.  Wouldn't you know, my aunt has now kicked my mom out of her house after a month or two (and her job since it's out of state) and she's back living with my grandpa.  Back at square 1.  Back to them B&M'ing that she doesn't help around the house, is rude to them, etc.  It irritates the living crap out of me that they enable her the way they do...but I have to remember that it's their choice.

My step-mom has never really approved that my mom and I don't have much contact and this visit I got to hear all about it more than I normally do because her family is going through some issues.  "Family doesn't do what you've done", "You have to be the bigger person and do the right thing."  Sorry but I am no longer a doormat and while I have moved on from the past doesn't mean I have to sit there and take whatever abuse she feels like dishing out now.

Last but not least, we tried fixing one of the guest showers last night because a few of the tiles are loose and a "few" tiles turned into about 40 so we have decided to just go ahead and remodel earlier than we wanted, which means putting us a little behind on paying my student loans off as quickly as we hoped, which is fine by me.  Now we have 3 broken bathrooms.  But at least we can take a bath in one of them.

  • Yay Chelsea that is so awesome and I am sure such a hige relief for you and Mack.

I dont have any B&M the long weekend was just what I needed, but I am glad to be back at work.  This was the first weekend in over 2 months where I havent either been sick or had a weekend full of activities.  I felt really good and did nothing but read and watched movies.  I feel completely refreshed and actually missed work and am happy to be back.

I didnt do any black friday shopping outside of my home, I spent a fortune at body shop, VS and on a new PC for Matt but all from the comfort of my couch.

  • Yes, boo to being back at work.  I was 5 minutes late this morning too and got caught.

Holy cow Marie, you got a ton done in 4 days!  We have a shared mail box as well and all I remember is that we had to go to the post office and they gave us new keys. Easy as pie, really.

Woohoo for a nice IL visit, Chelsea.  I hope the change in your MIL is not just a one time thing.

  • Had a productive few days off.  We got the tree up, house cleaned, lights up outside, baby's room cleared out for the painter and mowed the yard.  Saturday we went to Wichita Falls to visit DH's family and while we were there we learned that his aunt had a heart attack or stroke and died instantly.  We are driving back to WF tomorrow for the funeral.  It was not what we were expecting when we went to visit.  She was only in her early 50s.  Very sad for DH and his family.  DH is very worried about his grandmother now because she has had to bury 2 kids in 2 years and he thinks this might just be too much for her.  Hoping she stays around a long time but her health isn't very good and now all this extra stress.  Prayers for his family!

  • Marie - holy cow you got a lot done.  :)  I'm glad it's all going well, I can't wait to see pictures.

Chelsea - awesome!  I hope it stays like that and wasn't just some wild hair.

We had a nice Thanksgiving break.  My only B&M is all the traveling we have to do each holiday to visit family, but I guess that's our fault for living so far away from everyone.  Traffic was not pleasant on Wednesday, but it wasn't too bad yesterday.

  • Thanks ladies. It was really strange, but I know better than to complain. We won't see them again until the first week of January, but she even texted to make sure I had enough time yesterday to finish the work I needed to get done over the weekend. Maybe she had a stroke?

    (I know strokes aren't funny. I just... whoa. I don't know what's going on.)

Marie, your house projects sound like so much fun! I admit, I'll miss stuff like that if we build next year and the house is relatively project-less for a while.

    imageimg
  • Chelsea - Medication maybe? :)

I have no complaints about my long weekend and holiday.   It was the best I've had in a long time.  I even went to boot camp before my familys Thanksgiving on Saturday.  Guilt free Thanksgiving for the win! :)

  • My only B&M is that I do not want to be here today, at all.  I really enjoyed my week off, and I wish I could be a stay at home wife (and then mom, when we get around to that).  Otherwise, I'm pretty happy.  I have lots and lots to do in the next 3 weeks though, so that I can take 2 weeks off at Christmas!

  • MIL called and talked for 30 minutes the other day while we were out shopping.  It was annoying because I had questions to ask Bill about what I was allowed to spend.  So, while it wasn't very mature of me, I got the things that I wanted and let Bill's eyes bulge a little at the total at Michael's.  And that's how I walked in for green floral wire and out with a bunch of other stuff.

Also, I am going to have to be more discriminatory about who I become friends with on FB.  I am friends with a parent of two former students and she has sent me ten messages since school started about how it is wrong of me to not like UT.  Um, excuse me.  I went to A&M.  It's required.  I have now completely blocked her from seeing my statuses.

  • Glad everyone had a great weekend!  We had a good time with family, but boy was it busy!  So busy I couldn't pull all the Christmas decorations down until last night.  I put up the tree, and a whole string of lights are out,  I looked carefully and they are all burnt.  Who knows what happened in the attic after this summer's heat.  So, tree is in the trash, and I get to go to Hobby Lobby to buy a new one.  Just need to print me off one of those handy 40% off coupons today.  :)

Chelsea, glad the visit with the in-laws was so good!

Marie, wow that sounds great!  You guys must have been busy this weekend!

Dana & Jaymi - :(  Sorry for your loss and troubles.

  • The weekend wore me out.  I think I tried to do too much.  I am looking forward to a nice long week off at Christmas.

I was out shopping Saturday and Sunday and there were no lines anywhere.

Ben had 2 of my presents "gift wrapped".  Unfortunately the gift wrapping consisted of putting a nice bow on top of a nice box with their company name on it.  So I have a pretty good idea of what 2 of my 3 presents are. ;)  He was so excited to put them under the tree though, I just laughed.  I am stumped on the third one though which he actually wrapped himself after watching a video on Youtube.

Glad everyone had a nice holiday for the most part!

You need a new tree?  We have 2 or 3 faux trees and the only one I can see in my head is in real good shape.  I'm not sure if it's "ours" or if we borrowed it from his dad last year but I can ask DH if he is interested in getting rid of it, if you would be interested.

That's awesome! I also was really pleased how well Thanksgiving went with my in-laws. They had nothing but positive things to say about the house.

H's grandma didn't understand why we weren't keeping the flowery wallpaper everywhere, though. She really liked it. (Pics in bio.)

Haha! Maybe Courts should watch a video like that.

My weekend was pretty great. I cooked Thanksgiving dinner myself for the most part, and it was fun and rewarding. But I'll never do pumpkin pie from scratch again. I wanted to try the whole roasting/pureeing the pumpkin thing, but it's not worth the work. Canned pumpkin for me from now on!

My only B&M is that yesterday we went and took SIL's family Christmas photos, and she completely took over. I knew she would because she's always like that, but it was really irritating. And, when her 2 year old was throwing a fit and she goes "Are you still sure you want kids?" and I shouldn't have let it bother me, but it stung a little. Because we're both so ready and we're doing everything we can to get ourselves to a place where having kids is possible. It's a major motivation for everything we do. So yes, I am sure. Thankyouverymuch

  • I spiez a copycat of my wedding cake on a certain blog this morning.  =)

    Now, I want cake.

I had 2 strings of lights half out.  I had to go to Albertson's at like 10:30 pm Friday night.  Also, any and all candles that I had melted in the attic even though they were in boxes--that has never happened before.

Makes you realize how dang hot it was this summer!  Although, waking up to 30 degrees this morning makes me long for 100 degree days.

Jaymi - Thanks for the offer, but I'm kind of picky about my trees.  Well, all my Christmas decorations.  I'm not happy about spending money on a new tree, but I'm really excited about getting to pick a new one out!

Oh, and this Cyber Monday thing is great.  I avoided stores like the plague this weekend, even though there were some good deals.  Looked online lastnight/this morning, and I can get the same price AND free shipping.  Wa-hoo!

Oh, not me! I'll take this weather over 100 degrees any day.

I haven't done any shopping yet. I want to try to do it early, because I usually do my shopping the week of Christmas. But I have no idea what to get my parents and sister. None.

Although, my mom did say she wants a new case for her ipad. Any idea where to get a cute one? Especially with bling? She loves bling.

  • imageBanannaP:

The  Apple store?  I was going to go there for a case for my Iphone.  I ended up getting one at Verizon.

I got my mom a spa day at the Stoneleigh.  I'm excited for her to get it.  I got my sister a Philosophy gift set and red-outs for her IS250 (red thingys that cover up the amber piece on the tail lights and make them all red).  She liked mine and wanted them.  Not a very exciting gift though visually.  I will have to tell her what they are!

I am so hungry but I am committed to salads and Slimfast for as long as I can do it.

  • There's A LOT going on in here, so just know I read everything even if I don't mention you.

Marie - Congrats on getting so much done and that wallpaper is terrible. Grandparents crack me up.

Jaymi - Not to be up in your business, but it sounds like you might have an ovarian cyst. Do you feel pain in your lower back and into your upper leg on the side of the pain? If so, you almost positively do. The dr won't be able to do much for you other than a round of BCP to shrink it down if it's large. If you continue to feel the pain after your period, you need to go see the doctor anyway because that generally means the cyst is not functional and needs to be checked out to rule out more serious conditions.

B&M - I have a cold and it sucks. My IL's make me angry/annoy me. Related but more about my BIL - I had to sleep on the couch while at the ILs because he decided he needed the only bed to himself. Slipping off a leather couch and hitting your face on a wood floor isn't exactly the most comfortable way to wake up.

Regardless we only had to stay two days and the rest of the weekend was good. I read all three Hunger Games books. I bought my ornament for my exchange Nestie - side note -- what was the limit? Embarrassed

Back on the wagon today - 1200 calories is sad after the Thanksgiving feast but it is what it is. School is over in a couple of weeks and I have decided to do the 30 Day Shred straight through during winter break. Last time I did it, I got good results but I was alternating with running, so I'd like to see what happens with it now that I have stopped running.

We got bad news about infertility testing and our insurance, so I am heavily considering holding it off until March. It sucks but we don't have $5000 extra without breaking into our emergency fund and I am just not willing to do that right now.

I think the limit was $10 but I didnt exactly follow it.  I ordered mine online so I justified it by saying my person shouldnt have to pay for my laziness and I am personally paying for the convenience. Big Smile
