Re: SA Wednesday

  • My jacket has turned into a sweat box even though it is cold. Maybe my fever is finally breaking.

I hate group work. I don't understand why college professors think it is a good idea. Everyone knows that one or two people end up doing the work.

A guy in a wheelchair just interrupted me typing this to ask if I would open the door outside for him. Sure. He just rolled on out without even looking at me, much less a thank you. Regardless of your physical capability, rude is rude. A woman who didn't speak much English was here to take a test and was lost. She needed to go across Cooper St to the correct building, there is a pedestrian bridge for this. She asked me to drive her and when I told her I had class she acted like I had slapped her. What is up with people today??

ETA: One more. Kourtney Kardashian is having another baby with Scott. I feel slightly bitter, not going to lie.

  • My FIL just went in for surgery at Baylor. They think he has stage 2 throat cancer. :( My husband is at work, and his stupid boss told him he couldnt take off to be with his dad, because the guy my hubby asked to cover him supposedly isnt "responsible", so hes not able to be up there with him. If you guys could please send T&P and any good vibes his way we would appreciate it.

FINALLY found out why we had no hot water in our bathrooms. It something to do with the stem or toggle? I have no clue what they're talking about, but they're supposed to come fix it today. :)

  • Leslie- Don't you know you're supposed to just drop everything you're doing to help everyone else? :-P. That would definitely bother me too!

I am just super sleepy today. :-(. And I'm so ready for the weekend!  Especially since we are going to a concert Sat night. We haven't really been out in a while!

  • There is construction going on around our apartment.  I'm not sure where exactly, I just know a jack hammer woke me up at 4 am.  Color me very unimpressed.
  • I am so ready for the weekend too, Sarah!  This week has flown by but then again, I have not been here mentally or physically for half of it.

The pain I was having is a cyst.  It's twice the size of my ovary and it will either be absorbed back in my ovary or rupture.  It's a wait and see game.

For the last 2 nights, I have fallen asleep before 9pm and it's been wonderful.  I hope I continue that trend tonight.

  • I hate group work. I don't understand why college professors think it is a good idea. Everyone knows that one or two people end up doing the work.

We are being told to do more group work because our students are going to have to be able to work on a team when they enter the work force.  I get that.  However, this leads to many of our students not being able to do work on their own.  And they complain ALL THE TIME.

This was actually going to be my SA today.  I held the door open for a student today (not mine) because her arms were full.  Didn't say one word.  If I hadn't already been running behind and needed to make a stop at the office, I might have been more willing to stop her and say "A 'thank you' would have been nice."

  • I missed so much yesterday, wow!

Stephie - I'm so sorry about your accident, how scary! I'm glad that you are ok!

  • T&Ps for your FIL Danielle.

I got my year end rating for work yesterday...now just to hold out hope that the new bosses will give bonuses/raises similar to our old bosses.

Is it bad that I longer open the door, etc. for those that are repeat offenders when it comes to saying "Thank You"?  I'm also the same way with those who can never say "Hi" back.

I thought so. I have had a ton of them and have never had permanent damage and have only had about 10% of them rupture, so try not to stress. I will not lie to you though, the rupture pain is no joke. I hope it just absorbs back in and you don't have to deal with it.

  • My SIL's due date was yesterday, so I've been constantly checking my phone to see if my brother has called yet. I'm on pins and needles!!!

They have two girls, and we don't know the gender of this baby so it's very exciting. I selfishly kind of want the baby to wait a bit - my birthday is tomorrow and I would LOVE to share the day with my new niece/nephew  :0)

  • I have lots of little things today!

-I would like to give the writer/producer/director of Sons of Anarchy a kiss after last night's episode.  There should be a Jax Teller shower scene each and every week!

-We have a lady coming by tonight to give us a bid on cleaning our house.  She cleans for my sister and does an outstanding job.  I am hoping the price is right.  Oh how I would love to no longer be the housekeeper anymore!

-A few weeks ago I was really in a funk and was in dire need of some focus in all areas of my life.  I found a book that is self-help'ish/spiritual'ish and have started reading that for about 15 minutes every morning.  This book hits home every single morning.  I feel like I am learning and putting what I learn into practice.  I love when I feel like books were written especially for me.

  • Leslie, that would really piss me off, I dont know what happened to common courtesy.

Danielle, I am sorry about your FIL and that your husband cant be there, I will definitely keep you in my thoughts.

I am finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel at work with all this hiring.  I am just counting down to the second week of December.  I will say though that over Thanksgiving break I read a book called Heart and Soul five american companies that are making the world a better place and it features my company as one of the places.  Reading it and hearing the CEOs philosophes on culture just made me so much more recommitted to and thankful for my job.

  • Danielle, T&P's for your FIL!

I was reading some of the birth stories on TB last night.  (Yes I was home bored.)  They were interesting and I loved seeing all the PIP.

I was also on TK and have a WR SA:  I will never understand the uproar people get into over head tables.  Never.

I am still very shaky today--definitely had a hard time driving to work.

  • Does anyone watch the biggest loser and see the makeover episode last night?

  • GOOD NEWS!!! He just came out of surgery, and they said his cyst lump or whatever it was is benign! WHOO HOO!!!

That's awesome!  We've debated about getting a house cleaner, but I can't seem to want to spend the money.  We had a lady stop by to give us a quote &I couldn't believe it.

My questions to those that have a house cleaner:  What is the average you pay them and how often do they come?

  • I just got home from the doctor.  I've been struggling with a sore throat for about 10 days, and my sis & mom convinced me to go in because it was probably strep... nope, just a "minor throat infection."  Oh well... I got some shopping done while waiting at Target for my rx!

Leslie - who even asks strangers to drive them places?!?  And just ugh about the lack of a thank you.  My favorite way of correcting the situation is you happily call out "You're welcome!!" after them.

Danielle - that is terrible of your H's boss - but thank goodness for good news!

    Sara - share the title?

  • All of these new car incentives make my eyes cross and my head spin.

    Excellent!

I think we pay $85 a month.  She comes once a month.  Sometimes if they come more often, they charge slightly less.

    Danielle, that is wonderful news!

My questions to those that have a house cleaner:  What is the average you pay them and how often do they come?

We use Cottage Care.  They were $100 for the first cleaning and are just under $90 for the ones after that on an every other week plan.  If we used them every week, it would be even lower.  We also used Merry Maids and they were not as good and outrageously priced!  Like almost three times the price.  We prefer to use a company over an individual because they are in our house alone for a majority of the time and my husband wanted to make sure that background checks had been done and that they were bonded.  We've been very happy with CC (our branch is located in Lewisville).

  • Thank you bank for detecting fraud and putting a stop to it without me knowing.  Not so cool that you blocked my card over 5 days ago and never bothered to tell me so I didn't figure it out until I went to use it today.

Bank of America?  Same thing happened to my CW.  That's ridiculous.  A courtesy call is the least they can do.

My questions to those that have a house cleaner:  What is the average you pay them and how often do they come?

I briefly used a company that charged $75 for each clean (that was the twice-a-month rate; it's lower if you get the house cleaned more often, higher for less frequent.) But if I go back to a house cleaner, I'm probably going to use Cottage Care.

The company I used, I won't bother to name, because I found a review online that some jewelry came up missing at a client's house and the company refused to investigate or help in any way. That turned me off to that particular company.

It was Chase.  That's what I thought, at least give me a heads up so I don't look stupid trying to use it.

Yes, I did. They all looked great. I can not stand John, he is a snake in the grass and I will be upset if he wins. I love Vinny, Antone and Becky and would love to see any of them win. I don't know about this marathon business. Cross training is one thing, but training for a marathon is a completely different beast. I hope no one gets hurt.

  • Because it's about that time... what's for lunch?  I'm at home, so I'm trying to decide what sounds good to make, and keep myself from going out to Whataburger (my weakness).

I'm also realizing that I really wish I would have come home from the fam's a little earlier than Sunday evening - there is so much I'd like to be doing around the house right now, like finishing my tree, making dinners for the next several days, wrapping some presents, and doing laundry.  But instead, I'm sort of working, and about to really get going, just in time to stop for lunch.

  • I'm having leftovers for lunch - chicken and potato curry with lemongrass. But the smell is really strong so I'm considering buying a sandwich instead of smelling up the whole fourth floor.

I've been really congested and had just the slightest sore throat the past couple of days and I really hope I'm not getting sick. Sad

I thought they all looked great. Especially Becky. I love her and Antone both. Sunny bothers me a little but I think it's cool that she's from Frisco :-P
