Do you guys ever see dogs with no collar roaming your neighborhood? If you did see one, would you do anything about it?
I ask because I've recently started seeing one in my neighborhood. It looks well fed enough, and seems comfortable around people. It could be somebody's dog that they just let roam around the neighborhood all day, possibly.
I asked my parents' opinion and they say just leave it alone, unless it looked under-nourished, then to call animal control.
WWYD?
Re: SA Wednesday
We actually had this happen twice the last few months. They ended up belonging to the same neighbor. One doesn't know how to stay out of the street and since he's a small black dog I'm terrified he will get run over. I tried to grab both of them one day and they just ran from me. I'll only chase a dog so far before I give up.
I know it seems silly but I'm not getting to many yes responses to my birthday party invite this weekend. I understand it's around Christmas and more it's around finals, but it would be nice to have more then my sister and my DH there. Like I said being silly.

Deepthi,
I understand where you are coming from. I'm still a little hurt from my birthday (almost a month ago now). I did not get a happy birthday from my dad or my brother.
Also, even though it was 10:15 when I finallllly got home last night, I stayed up to watch the "Glee" episode. While I'm dragging this morning, I don't regret it one bit. I really enjoyed the episode!
Deleted so not to be a spoiler.. sorry!

What I thought was really awesome was that they won it on their own and out right. They hadn't done that yet!!! And, yes, Rachel was class. And I was glad that Quinn ended up being classy as well.
This is more of a B&M, but I am putting it out there. I am really starting to get annoyed by people oversharing. I just don't understand it at all. Maybe I am too private of a person, but shouldn't some things just be kept to yourself or kept within your own household or at least off of the internet???
I didn't get to watch Glee yet so I am going to pretend I didn't see these other posts!
I don't think you are being silly. I had something similar happen last year but I don't know why my expectations were so high...so dumb. DH threw a surprise party (wasn't really a surprise as my CW spilled the beans) and no one from work showed up. It made me mad because I do all of their crap year round, why can't they come to 1 thing of mine? Lesson learned.
Try not to let it bother you too much and enjoy the time with those that do come! And one good thing about not many people showing up is that you can pack up and leave and do something else like go to the movies, go to a different bar or to go play putt-putt or whatever you want to do.
AGREEEE. We have a friend who is pregnant and has made sure to tell me all the gory details of her cycle, the gross things pregnancy does to her body, her feelings of illness... I don't know, maybe because I teach Biology she thinks I will find it interesting? Oh, it's awful. I told H I couldn't wait to get back at her, but she is also a story topper so she would probably be unphased by my schemes.
Edit: Marie, it's a tricky situation, because that dog could be picked up by animal control if an officer happened to pass through your neighborhood. I really hate owners who do that kind of thing -- put a collar on your dog, FFS. Could you take it to a vet and ask them to check for a microchip? Maybe the owner knows the dog slips its collar and escapes, so they at least chipped him?

I had to sit still in traffic...hardly moving...for like 20 minutes this morning on 121. There was a stalled car. I passed that area and then traffic backed up again for who knows what reason. Traffic has been extra bad every day this week! :-(
I do have an interview tonight for a seasonal job I am wanting to get. I hope it works out!

We had collars on our cats when we first got them in '98 (these are the ones who live with my dad). Moe managed to get out of his (and hide it to where it was never found) within three days. Every time we put a new collar on him, it was gone very quickly. Then, my dad heard a story of a cat hanging itself because its collar got caught on a low lying branch and couldn't get out of the collar. He got rid of all the collars the next day. My two girls don't go out at all so they don't have collars, however, the next two will have the chip.
I am an oversharer when it comes to TTC stuff and the Nest boards. I think being on the GP board has desensitized me to overshares related to those matters. Oh well.
I cried like five times last night watching the Biggest Loser. When the contestants watched the videos of themselves from the beginning and their video selves told their thinner selves they can't ever go back there, I related so much. On the other hand, I am beginning to think John has some sort of mental problem. Also, last night was the second time one of the trainers mentioned him gaining all of his weight back. I think he's learned nothing and if he is the Biggest Loser it will be a huge waste.
They opened a Bennigan's by our house. We went last night and their honey mustard is still as awesome as ever. Lol!
What? No way! We will have to check that out. I was so sad when they closed.
I think that's different, though. You're talking to a group of women who are dealing with similar issues (or have asked you to share). I know in my case, the girl I know saw my copy of TCOYF and just started rattling off info about her charts like I was her gyno.

This. I have successfully returned one.
If it doesn't have a collar, then I say a little prayer that it stays safe and that its owner (or a loving family) finds it. I know that is silly. I would never call animal control unless it was aggressive or something.
My MIL's dog is notorious for seeing a door that's sllllllliiightly open and BOOKING IT. She tries to chase her down, but she's gone for about 20-30 minutes, and comes right back. Maybe the dog you're seeing, Marie, does the same?
I wouldn't call unless it's aggressive either.

H and I have gotten into the habit of saying, "Be safe, Kitty (or Puppy, or whatever)!" whenever we see a stray running around while we're driving. Not silly at all.
Leslie, I meant to ask yesterday: What's RE?

Yessss.
Slightly related to your comment, I bought a blueberry muffin at Starbucks this morning and have not yet had the desire to eat it.

I hate that, and yet it's such a common thing for me right now.

Hahahah, that's me. I even try using my "nice-come-hither-dog-voice".. to no avail.
My dog is microchipped, out of safety. She is amazing on and off a leash, but, she is super skiddish. One time i dropped the leash and it scared the heck out of her, so she ran around shaking her head until the collar/leash combo shook off. She's the bomb though, and will walk right beside me on and off the leash.
I also want to know where this Bennigan's is! H loves it. There is still one in my hometown, so both times H and I have visited my family, we HAD to go there. Yum.
Thanks for everyone's responses about the loose dog. I keep trying to picture it in a safe, warm, loving home at night so I don't worry so much. (Especially when I saw it out in the rain and cold this past weekend).
H and I had actually considered taking it in ourselves before we would've called anyone about it. (We'd definitely have checked if it was chipped first) but I know deep down we're not ready for a pet yet with the hours we work. Plus, you know, it might actually be someone else's dog and I'd always wonder if we were dog thieves.
I don't know where the new Bennigans is, but there has always been one in Las Colinas. I don't think it ever closed.
You're right, that one never closed.

DH and his ex took SD to a psychiatrist yesterday and she has offically been diagnosed with ADHD. They gave her the lowest dose of pills you can take and we started them this morning. Her teacher emailed DH already this morning talking about what a huge difference she sees. She said she is still her bubbly talkative self but will actually sit still and can focus through instructions being given. This is great news. I think SD is super bright and smart but she just has so much going on in her head she wasn't able to show it. I think these pills are exactly what she needed. We have to give them to her every morning for the next month and then she has another evaluation with the doctor.
RE dogs: We had a dog in the neighborhood that never kept his collar on and then owners would do everything to keep him in the yard. He dug out all the time. He was chipped and very friendly so everytime someone saw him wandering they'd take him home or just hold him in their backyard until the owners got home. Both our dogs are chipped. DH is more worried about someone stealling them out of the back yard (full blood Collies and dog theft is apparently big in our area) but since they are chipped we hope this won't happen. Plus I think the smaller one would bite someone she didn't know coming in our gate.
