XP: Changing Peds.

I accidentally posted this on MM between calls, but really meant to post here.

So when I change pediatricians, I just have the old one send the files on to the new one, correct?  Or does the new pediatrician request them themselves?

I requested them before and it took forever (3+ weeks) to have them transferred from our CO ped to the MT ped, so I'm wondering if it's easier to have a new office request them from the new MT ped instead of me.  I was hoping to get a follow-up appt on my son at a new family practice.  It would be in less than 3 weeks and I'm not sure if they need the files then or if those can come later.

Also, would you send a letter to the office letting them know your issues or just review a poor doctor online (not sure where, but I've heard of doctor-type grading websites)?  There was also one great doctor, so I would review him online and in the letter as stellar, but overall the practice had ridiculous wait times (more than an hour and half in 2 out of 3 of our scheduled appts to just get back into the room) and that one doctor needs some major improvement in his bedside manner with both the parents and kids.  WWYD for a review?

Re: XP: Changing Peds.

  • Oh and maybe these wait times and times to move files are reasonable and I'm just not to used to that.  I'm willing to not complain about those if that is the case, but that doctor was still cold and pretty uncaring in the 4 1/2 min he spent with us after almost being in the office for 2 hours waiting on him.

  • I had to sign a form and fax it to the old pedi to have them send it to the new one.

Then I had to do it two more times to actually get it done. <eyeroll>

  • I would request them from the old pediatrician. If you havn't seen the new pediatrician and signed a consent they cannot request the records. Most of the time unless the records are needed for an upcoming procedure offices will forget about it.

I think 3 weeks is way too long. A records request is easy, you pull the chart and fax it. even with a busy practice I think a week is even a long time. Our old pedi's office gave us a line that it can take up to 4 weeks. If you tell them your kids have an appointment on x day and they need the records to see your child that might light a fire.

That being said I would write a letter to the office manager and the president dr. of the practice. I wrote a letter to our old pedi because of how horrible some of the dr's were and the unwillingness to help.
