I just got mine. A whopping 4%. I don't even want to tell H. It wasn't even anything I could debate, it just is what it is. Lamesauce.

Ugh, I guess you're right. I guess I don't see COL as a raise. My old company sucked azz and we still got COL. I did get a nice little bonus, which I wasn't expecting, so that helps.
Yeah I say be grateful for the raise. A lot of people don't get them at all.
H worked five years for the same company and never got a raise or promotion. He got quarterly bonuses that amounted to less than $1k a year. He was one of the lucky ones - the majority of his fellow employees had to take a 10% pay cut when the economy tanked and still had to work the same number of hours. At least he didn't get that.
Anyway, I get whatever ESD gets.

Yes, twenty-one thousand more dollars per year. I wish I had such a dilemma, lol.
It's sucky times for almost everyone. At my (new) job, there's been one raise in the last 4 years, and it was less than 4%. So with COL people are actually making way less than they were back in 2007.
If I were overlord of the world, I'd decree 25% annual raises for all non-bacon-eating TIPers.
I might give up bacon for a 25% increase.
We are still getting them funded at 50% what they were and it's significantly less than 4%. My FI hasn't seen a raise in three years as they've had a freeze on them.
I haven't gotten a raise since September 1, 2008. I'll take your 4% and I won't even whine about it.
ETA: I also don't get bonuses and can't get overtime. (And I'm hourly, not salary.)
I don't care how much the raise is, I'd always negotiate with any job offer. Sh!t, my job offer last spring was actually a higher raise than $21k (I was a grad student with a stipend before, so it's not as crazy as it sounds) and I still negotiated for a higher salary. I'm actually shocked that over 80% of people in that SO post told her not to negotiate at all.
The PTO I probably would have tried to negotiate in her position, but I'm not sure on the actual money. Admittedly, I have been with the same company since college graduation, so I'm not very well versed in job offers, heh. I suspect that in Maine's shiitty job market and coming from my current wages I would be in such shock that I'd just take it and weep with glee.
The last time I tried to negotiate wages was at age 17. I went in to apply for the job where I met Mr. Bang and told them I wanted $7 per hour (at that point it was good money for a summer retail job!) and the boss said, "Will $7.50 do?"
I was shocked too. It was their first offer. How many people come to the table and present their very best offer first?

I find out about mine tomorrow. I'm not expecting it will be good. My firm is looking for ways to cut costs, and giving crappy raises is one of them.
Here's the thing though about raises, at least my perspective. I get that a lot of people aren't getting raises now, or that they're being cut. I understand that. If my company came to its employees and said, "the economy is bad, we can't afford the raises you used to get, etc" I'd be fine with it. Hell, I'd even be grateful. But they don't do that. Instead, they say "you didn't do well this past year, so we're justified in giving you less money" when they're giving less money across the board. Don't lie about it! Be honest instead of trying to blame the employee! And it's hard to understand when the president is still making millions and employing all his children at high salaries for doing virtually nothing.
That's my rant of the day.

I agree with this... I've been making the EXACT same annual salary for SEVEN YEARS now! Exact. I made a bunch of lateral moves, then I got laid off and after 6 months, I was happy when they offered me exactly what I was making previously. And because of the economy, they haven't done raises.
And I've NEVER had this elusive Christmas bonus everyone speaks of. I've been in the corporate world for 13 years.

This is sadly all too familiar. Sigh.
I wish H got more than a COL raise. Hopefully he'll get the job he applied for (within the same company) and therefore get a raise.
I got a Christmas bonus of $250 at my first job when I was 20 years old. I didn't know such things happened so it was pretty awesome. Oh 2005-2006, you were good to me. Since I currently work two crap part time jobs I get nothing extra, not even a COL raise or PTO.
Good thing H and I have a deal that I'll have the kids and he'll make the big bucks.
Well my DH got a 2% raise, and health insurance premiums went up, so it nets out to a 1% pay decrease.
I would be careful complaining about "only" 4% these days, as that is becoming above average pretty quickly.
Yeah, it's pretty frustrating. The sun shines out of my arse 50 weeks of the year, but 2 weeks before my review, my work product suspiciously goes downhill....but then I'm awesome again after my review.
It blows my mind how this stuff works.
4% is better than nothing...which is what I have received as a raise for the past 10 years.
(NOT complaining, am happy I have a job)
