Re: I'm posting the good morning thread here

  • Good Morning, i'm just getting to work. Have to pay bills before I start work though fun fun! Too bad bills don't take a holiday! Going to the Nutcracker tonight with FI, so excited!

  • Yay!  H is on his last day of his 80 hours' ride time (they put him with two other EMTs every day of those 80 hours who watch him work) and they're planning on clearing him this afternoon!  Clearing means that he'll be official, he can pick up any shifts and work with one partner, instead of two.

I had no idea how many damn hoops EMTs have to jump through.  From classes to tests to the interview, to being hired to medical exams to orientation to ride time...holy crap.  I feel like every few months it's like OKAY, H IS AN EMT NOW, FINALLY.

I'm just glad that part is over.  He was freaking out because one of his stupid bosses told him that newbies who make major mistakes during the 80 hours get automatically fired with no appeal.  I figured he'd be fine, but he was a mess last night.

  • Did he think he made a mistake, Bay, or is he just freaking out about possibly making a mistake?  What kind of thing counts as "major"?

  • Adamar - can I be nosy and ask how your contacts are irritating your eyes?

I think I'm having something similar happen. It may be my allergies though. Every other week my right eye turns slightly bloodshot and hurts so I can't wear my contacts anymore. I've been using an eye wash to rinse it out but it still takes 3 or 4 days. I don't have vision insurance so I've been visited my regular doctor and allergist instead. Neither seem to be helpful. Just curious to see if you're having something similar happen.

  • I didn't actually notice them irritating my eyes, but he could see signs of it on my eyes and inside my eyelids.  I've been wearing 2 week Acuvue 2 contacts, but I'm not the best about keeping track of how long I've been wearing the same pair, so I guess that's what's causing it.  He put me in dailies because they're thinner, and he's hoping the irritation is gone in a week or so, and then he can fit me in new contacts.

  • One of his FTOs (their term for manager, I have no idea what it means) was yelling at him yesterday for "being slow."  Not when they had a patient, but when he got back to base and was filling out the report.  The reports are HUGE, they basically document everything that happened when they got to the scene, in the ambulance, and at the hospital/rehab center/wherever they take the patient.  H is still learning how to fill them in, so he was trying to be as meticulous as possible, and she hollered at him.  He was a wreck when  he got home, but a friend of ours who also works with him told him that that particular FTO is a *** and that he didn't have anything to worry about.  I don't think he was too convinced until today though.

  • I'm kinda sad that a lot of people won't come over here if TK doesn't get fixed. There are a lot of board over here, but we have our own little hidey hole here in April 2006. I wish they'd come over, or TK gets fixed ASAP.
  • Your H will be fine Bay. It really irritates me when employers expect new employees to be as quick as everyone else on stuff like that. They have to learn!

  • I have no idea what to get my BIL and SIL for Christmas.  Normally we would get them a bottle of wine or something, but she's pregnant so that's out.  I thought of maybe a date night and we would watch the kids, but they go to their dad's every other weekend so that's kind of pointless.  I'm scared to get any baby stuff.  I'm stumped.

  • Good Morning Ladies!

It's Friday!  I'm so excited, this has been a biitch of a week.

Snip, I hope you feel better soon ~ also, I received a Christmas post card from Sweden a couple days ago, so thanks for that :)

Bay, when are you coming up to MA? And are we still planning the GTG - I am definitely still in if we are!

Hope you all have a great day!

  • Adamar -- maybe a bottle of wine for your BIL and a prenatal massage for your SIL?  Or a pedicure?

BJS -- YES.  The January GTG is still on!  I'm going to make a post after the New Year and get everyone's opinion about where to go.  I'm pretty sure they said Natick, but I don't think we'd decided where in Natick.

  • Adamar, I think that would still be a great gift (the date night and babysitting)! I was going to do that for my BFF but I'm not quite comfortable around kids under 1 year by myself just yet. So I'm getting them zoo passes instead.
  • Morning!

AK, I forgot to wear my retainers for the past two weeks, and they barely fit when I popped them in last night. Now my mouth is sore.

On a TMI dental note, my gums have been weird since I had the flu a couple of weeks ago. They usually don't bleed, but the last few days have been gross. That makes me cranky, and makes me want to move up my dental cleaning.

  • Morning!

TGIF.  This has been a hellish week.  Today is my departments holiday party.  Everyone is going, except...me.  Boss is from this department and another so there's really not much loyalty to either which means I get to slave away while everyone gets super drunk and eats tons of goodies.  Pity party for one?  On a somewhat positive note this means I can "watch what I eat", because I wont be eating.

Mari- I would love it if bills took a holiday.  Too bad they don't.

  • lbarr-This has been a hellish week! My CW don't really seem to like Christmas, so it's been non stop complaining all week. I wish we had a Christmas party, maybe that would cheer everyone up.

I know! We got our cell phone bill today, so savings is going to take another hit...oh well.

    image
  • That's shiity, lbarr.  I got to make the reservation for the holiday dinner a couple years ago, and then I was told the day of that I had to stay back and cover the phones.  I was fuucking pissed.

Ugh heads would be rolling if that was me.  That sucks so much.

mari- I had car insurance last night!  Oh what fun... and it's one of the higher ones since it's starting for the year again.

  • Good morning all, P&Ring here

Special, you should move up your cleaning if you can- the bleeding could mean gum disease :(

I'm so ready for the holidays to be here, but at the same time, so NOT ready too!  I'm only half done gift shopping and I'm usually done before Thanksgiving!

    image
  • I'm never ready for Christmas.  I buy one or two awesome sale items around Black Friday then that's it until a couple days before Christmas, or even Christmas Eve.  I procrastinate so much.
  • That does suck Adamar, I would've been pissed!

lbarr- Yuck we had to pay that earlier this week.

    image
  • lbarr- Usually I am, but we had a work conference up until Thanksgiving, and then I was sick. I got the kids in the family taken care of on black Friday, I have gotten FI one thing and my mom one thing, well just ordered another online, hopefully it gets here on time. It's a TomTom on 1 Sale A Day, love that place! I got it for like $60!
    image
  • Mari - That's a pretty awesome deal.  I should start shopping online.  I don't know why I am always so nervous to!
  • lbarr- It is really so much easier and you don't have to do with the hassle of the crowds at the mall and other places.

  • Petty vent here.

Sometimes I get really annoyed with my FI about money stuff. He wanted season tickets for our alumni college basketball team next year. They're expensive. I don't think we can afford that and our Reds Power Pack tickets. I said "We'll see" via text when he told me and he said "Forget it". He does this almost every time. I hate when he does that because it makes me feel like I'm crushing his dreams. I told him that's how I feel and he tells me he reacts like that because his parents would always tell him that and they wouldn't do whatever it was.

Guess what honey, I'm not your parents. We make financial decisions together.

Now there's a cat at his office he wants to take home with him. I'd be all in for that but we can't afford to have a cat at the apartment until after the wedding. He knows this but he won't keep saying he wants the cat.

  • That is very true.  That is probably why I ended up procrastinating so much.  I hate dealing with everyone at the stores around the holidays.  I always get pushed and shoved... it is obnoxious.  I feel like I should walk around with brass knuckles or something.
  • Maybe instead of "we'll see" you say something like "we can discuss it tonight," or something like that?  "We'll see" usually meant no when I was a kid too :)  Saying you'll dicuss it has a more positive ring to it than "we'll see."

  •  My FI can be like that too, his grandmother spoiled him, he is coming to terms with I am not your grandmother and money doesn't grow on trees.

lbarr- I know, they are crazed! Black Friday at Walmart was INSANE! People were fighting over Riders Jeans, nothing wrong with Riders Jeans but my gosh it was a zoo.

Thanks Adamar. I even asked him if there was a way I could say it that wouldn't make him fee like that and he had no ideas. Hopefully that will work. I really feel like a horrible person when it seems I've crushed his dreams. :(

It meant that for me when I was growing up too but I guess I just didn't carry that over to adulthood.

That might be better, and make him feel like an adult. It is disappointing when they are looking forward to something and it just doesn't work out for some reason.
