Re: AW/FFFC
Too funny!!! (speaking as someone who went to a college prep school)
Okay, this explains why the yearbook class I was in was a total waste of time (I was the editor) and hasn't at all "helped in me business" or whatever - because I went to a regular ole public school and not prep school. I got it now!
WAY TO GO!!!!

Congrats!!! That's awesome! I actually finally caved the other day and ordered the book. I'm officially starting after the new year.
my bookshelf!
Bloggy
These are two of my pet peeves: 1., the "But this C would ruin my 4.0" student (hmmm...that's funny. When I pull up your GPA it says you have a 3.27) and 2., the "It's just an elective and everyone knows it's super easy and unimportant" student. Well, if it's that easy, how come you didn't just do the work/got a D/can't pass the exam like the other 90% of the class? And if it's so unimportant, why didn't you take theoretical physics as an elective instead of wasting our time here?
There's a pretty big difference between a student asking you to change an assigned/earned grade based on these things and a teacher researching a kids grades in other classes as in order to determine grade in this class. It's completely irrelevant.
My point was, whatever the rule is for other late students should be the same rule for this student. Either take both late or neither.
I saw the Chikasha lights last weekend. So pretty! However, the highlight of the trip for our group was getting ice cream at Dairy Queen. The lights were just an excuse to make the drive.
Awesome! I love feeling strong, and I have definitely lost an inch or two around my middle. I didn't take before measurements though, so I don't know exactly how much, other than clothes fitting more loosely.
That's true. It's always nice to be able to have consistency because, in the end, it saves me a lot of time. "Well, if I allowed you to turn it in late/do extra credit/etc. I'd have to do that for the other 26 students in this class, which just isn't possible since grades are already in."
Ok here's my FFFC well not really flameful but just a confession.
I sneaked a Christmas tree snack cake (my favorite!) into my bedroom last night and opened it quietly so M wouldn't hear (girl can crinkling paper from a mile away) so I didn't have to share.
DH has been wanting an Xbox 360 for a while now. I'm going to totally surprise him for Christmas and get him one! He'll have no idea since our budget for each other is half the cost of an Xbox, but my mom is pitching in for it to be part of her present to him, too. And I think I got MIL to get him a game he'll love. I'm so excited, I feel like I can never truly surprise him, but I think I might pull it off this year! I LOVE surprising people!

I've probably mentioned this FFFC before, but oh well---DH's cousin is due in 2 weeks (the 30th) and I'm crossing my fingers she keeps that baby in until at least the 26th. I'll be pissed if G gets over shadowed by another baby at Christmas and, since this cousin is one of DH's Grandma's favorites, I know that's what would happen. Or if she's in labor Christmas weekend...ugh. This is yet another reason why people shouldn't have babies around the holidays
I didn't "research" anything. We get eligibility reports on kids in classes/activities that might go off-campus for events, and yearbook does. Also, this kid is very vocal about his grades. Very vocal.
He's allowed to turn it in on Monday because "oops," he left his portfolio at home. My other late student turned it in yesterday. She completely misunderstood the assignment, however, it's still 10% off. His will be 20% off because it's two days late. That's my standard policy -- 10% off per day late. That 80 on his final will bring his grade down by a letter.
I do get pretty riled up, 5th, when people say, "It's just an elective." Because that's all I teach -- electives. If I didn't care about them, and the kids didn't care about them, then why the hell do we even have the classes? I'm certainly not teaching for the money.
Okla -- Good job, girl! I'm jealous of your size 6-ness.
Puppy -- I am also jealous of your man pushups!
AW/FFFC: Everyone in our faculty got a Christmas bonus from the school board. My friend, who is still dealing with the financial ramifications of a divorce, said, "Oh my god, my cat can get her shots this year!" and I got a little teary for her, because I'm just squirreling mine away for a vacation later, and I felt that first-world guilt that the MM ladies talk about.
Driller -- It was completely unexpected. We didn't get step raises this year because money is so tight (I'm sure it is at your school, too). When we got our cards, we thought maybe there was a Starbucks gift card or something, like $5 or whatever. Then people started reacting, and my friend thought, wow, okay, it's money, maybe $100?
No, it wasn't $100. I don't know how they did it. It really helped some people out, those who are young and single, with student loans mentioned that it would cover their January rent. I felt both sad and happy for them. And thankful. This is my second Christmas bonus at this job. I never even knew a teacher could work in a school where that was possible!
Congrats to your husband on his bonus, too
