Re: It's Friday Night and I Feel Alright

  • Angela - I'm so sorry.  :(  I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers for another (better) position ASAP.

Angie - Just keep hanging out.  Eventually there will be things that come up that are just between y'all and that will help you form a bond.  Or go shopping.  That always helps.  :)

I lost my job today because of a really really really stupid misunderstanding. Gah.

I'm sorry to hear this.  T&P's.

  • A couple questions for you ladies:

If you were getting a $10 gift card to VS (that you requested) would you think its weird if a $10 off coupon was with it?  I have a $10 secret reward card that I will not use and thought I might include it instead of throwing it away.

Say you had around 1,500 or so would you put it on a CC or put it into savings or divide it between the two?

    - No my sister did this at Kohl's. She had a $10 off coupon and a $30 gift card so she checked out and owed $1.34. It's great for a broke college kid

Say you had around 1,500 or so would you put it on a CC or put it into savings or divide it between the two?

    - I think it depends on how much I owe on the credit card, how much the interest would be and if I paid off the credit card could I put $750 in to my savings easier by doing so.

I wouldn't think that it would be weird to add the coupon.

I would consider splitting it but then I would also set a little aside for a nice date night.

Question 1:  Not at all, that doubles what they can get! :)

Question 2:   It depends.   If I had a sufficient emergency fund already in savings, then I would pay it all toward the CC.     If not, then I would probably put $1000 in savings and $500 toward the card.   Probably.

    1.  I don't think that is weird at all.  It's like your almost giving that person $20!

    2.  I would probably put it all on a CC, but that's just because I want to be CC debt free soon!!   My interest rates suck!

  • imagejuliebug1997:
    Officially creeped out.  Yuck.

Wow that is sooooo gross and inappropriate! How could the parents even think that was remotely ok?? I'm disgusted!

    That is seriously NOT okay!!

It would be cute and funny if it was a kiss on the cheek, but that is just taking it too far.

Question #1:  Not weird at all.  We bought DH's g-rents a GC to Texas Roadhouse and will include the $5 off coupon we got for purchasing a GC.

Question #2:  My initial reaction was to say put it all on the CC.  Then I read Tiffany's response and I think she makes a great point.

  • 2. How much do you have in savings (is it sufficient?) and how much is your interest rate on your credit card?  Will that amount pay off the credit card?  How much will using the whole amount toward the cc save you interest?  Is that worth more to you?  :)

  • Off the wall question for you ladies, because you know everything.  We need to buy J a suit for his interview stuff.  He has never owned - or needed - a suit before, but I'd like to get one that he could wear in the future if events came up.  We don't want to spend a whole lot of money (no particular budget in mind yet), but don't want it to look cheap either.  I keep hearing commercials for amazing sales at Joseph A Bank... is that an okay place to buy a mid-grade men's suit?
  • Angie - We went to K&G for Courts' wedding suit. I can't remember how much we paid, but it was a really good deal. If I remember right, the location in Plano is menswear only and has a great selection. http://www.kgstores.com

DH has a suit from there and I don't like it.   I don't know how to describe why exactly, except that it doesn't really have any style.  Maybe it is the cut?  Idk.  It looks like a suit an older man would wear to church.

Dillards has some awesome suit sales, and the Dillards Clearance Center has some REALLY awesome deals, too.

We didn't go to those stores... Normally they are super expensive. I get my suits and Jeff's suits from JC Penny. I know it sounds strange but they have really decent suits. I bought some from them 5 years ago and still have it. I wear my suits probably about once a month at least, when I could fit into them.

  • I've never heard of Joseph A. Bank...so i'm not sure. We got DH's suit from the little place outside of the stonebriar mall...it's just across the street. For some reason the name eludes me at the moment. We also got my dad's, brothers, and nephews suits there. They all really like them and they do a thing where if you buy one you get the second one either half off or free (depending on price).

Angela - you said it was a misunderstanding. That to me doesn't make you a bad person at all nor should it be a judge of character! People have misunderstanding's everyday.....just remember everything happens for a reason :) i bet you're going to find something AWESOME that's in the day time that you'll LOVE.....that if this hadn't happened - you'd never have found. New doors are opening sista! :)

  • Angela, I forgot to say something earlier - I'm so so sorry to hear about your situation, I hope you can move on to bigger and better things soon!

Anyone still around? Any weekend plans?

Tonight we're babysitting SIL's kids so they can go Christmas shopping. Tomorrow I'm going to dinner and a chamber choir concert with a friend and DH is going to go see Moby. Our differences in music tastes make me lol. Sunday maybe I'll actually start some Christmas baking!

  • Thanks guys!  Tiffany, where is this Dillards Clearance Center?
  • imageangieandjames:
Thanks guys!  Tiffany, where is this Dillards Clearance Center?

It's at Irving Mall.   They are good deals on their own, but occasionally they have an extra 50% off Men's Suits, which turns out to be super cheap.

Also, check out Kohl's!  They have a brand of suits/dress attire for thin guys that fits REALLY well.  DH is on 150 lbs, and 6 ft tall. so finding him well fitting things are difficult, but their prices were REALLY good.

  • Thanks so much everyone!! I'm hoping that this little break will give me some time to get my name changed on everything and study for the GRE a little. Hopefully it's just a little break.
