2011 Travel Poll

Re: 2011 Travel Poll

  • 1) Just for fun: The Emigrant Wilderness in CA, and a few dance camps in Oregon.  To see family: Bandon, OR; Omaha, NE; Lake Cumberland, KY; Atlanta, GA.  For work: San Francisco more times than I care to remember.

    2) Our host family at one of the dance camps we attended.  We thought it would be weird to stay with strangers, but were really short on cash, so we did it anyway.  We ended up having almost as much fun hanging out with this older hippie couple as at the dance weekend we were paying to attend.  (The dancing was fun too.)

    3) San Francisco. I didn't expect to love coming every week by myself, but I expected to have more fun the long weekend I spent there with DH before I started my job.

    4) I made MVP this year without any travel horror stories.  Some late flights, some missed flights, but nothing that was a big deal.  I've gotten pretty zen about it all.

    5) Something my college roommate picked out for us at an Indonesian restaurant near her conference in SF.

    6) Monterey or nearby in January.  After that, I'm not sure.  We're talking about Peru, and/or Hawaii, and/or Alaska, but it's all just talk at this point.  All travel plans are influenced by my job right now, and the way it has me away from home 3 weeks each month, and how exhausting that's been.  As much as I want to travel, I think I might want to stay home more right now.

  •  1) Where did you go in 2011?VegasNassauCocoa Beach, FLAruba/CuracaoOcean City, MDAtlantic City, NJVegas againgoing to NOLA next week 2) What place pleasantly surprised you, and why? The Cosmopolitan in Vegas.  It was brand new when we stayed and I was a bit nervous about staying somewhere so soon after opening... but it was freaking awesome.3) What did you expect to enjoy, but found disappointing?  I thought I would like Curacao more.  Don't get me wrong, we had a great time, but probably wouldn't go back.  I am a beach person through and through and greatly prefer Aruba. 4) Tell me your biggest airport/airline disaster of the year.  No major disasters except getting into a verbal altercation with an extremely loud, drunk *** on the way to Vegas.... like so loud I could hear everything he was saying through my iPad earbuds turned up full blast.5) What is the best thing you ate away from home? probably the steak and amazing sides we had at Yemanja in Aruba.6)  Where do you plan to go in 2012. Is this influenced by anything that happened in 2011? Plans for '12 include Vegas in March, San Juan, Southern Carib cruise, Ocean City MD, Atlantic City NJ, and 4th of July in New England -  (we haven't booked that one yet though).

  • 1) Where did you go in 2011? Denver, Las Vegas, Cabo San Lucas

    2) What place pleasantly surprised you, and why?  Cabo, mostly with how easy it was to get in between San Jose Del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas

    3) What did you expect to enjoy, but found disappointing?  I wasn't really disappointed, but we went to Denver in Feb and I was expecting more snow in the city, but it had been warmer there the week we went than it was here in Phx, so most of the snow melted.

    4) Tell me your biggest airport/airline disaster of the year. None, thankfully.

    5) What is the best thing you ate away from home this year?  Hmm, not sure.

    6)  Where do you plan to go in 2012. Is this influenced by anything that happened in 2011?  We are going to Kauai in the spring, and then possibly back to Cabo in the fall.

    Anniversary
  • This board is getting boring. Tell me about your 2011 travel.

    1) Where did you go in 2011? St. Louis, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Saugatuck MI, Tanzania, San Francisco again, and several other domestic places that are not coming to mind at the moment.

    2) What place pleasantly surprised you, and why? I enjoyed our safari far far more than I thought I would. I am not that into animals and a safari was never high on my list. I was blown away though! The Ngorongoro Crater was one of the most amazing places I have ever been.

    3) What did you expect to enjoy, but found disappointing? Drawing a blank, sorry!

    4) Tell me your biggest airport/airline disaster of the year. Flying into Tanzania on the last leg (AddisAbaba, Ethiopia to Kiliminjaro, Tanzania), they lost not only our luggage but the ENTIRE PLANE's worth of luggage. Not one person had their bags. Sat around until past 2AM trying to fill out forms, etc. My DH is a filmmaker and had tons and tons of equipment (he was there for a shoot) that was MIA. We ended up getting it 24 nailbiting hours later.

    5) What is the best thing you ate away from home this year? The place we stayed in TZ had the best, freshest food. Homemade soups, fresh fish from their own farm, tons of vegetables- it was truly amazing and far exceeded my expectations.

    6)  Where do you plan to go in 2012. Is this influenced by anything that happened in 2011? Unusually for us, we don't have anything booked. Hopefully will get to Europe by the fall. We'll definitely go somewhere in June for our anniversary.

  • 1) Where did you go in 2011?

Mystic, Disney World, Disneyland, Moorea & Bora Bora

    2) What place pleasantly surprised you, and why?

I wasn't expecting to not like any of the places, so I wasn't surprised, but I enjoyed all my trips.

    3) What did you expect to enjoy, but found disappointing?

    N/A

    4) Tell me your biggest airport/airline disaster of the year.

    Thankfully none!

    5) What is the best thing you ate away from home this year?

poisson crux.  I want to learn how to make it!

    6)  Where do you plan to go in 2012. Is this influenced by anything that happened in 2011?

Italy.  H and I are hoping to do a 1st anniversary trip there.  It was our second choice for honeymoon, but we opted for lying on a tropical beach instead of sightseeing.  But we hope to do Italy this year!
