Re: SA Wednesday

  • Okay we need to get some coversation moving in here:

    1. Did you know the person who sings the good feeling part on the Flo-Rida song is Etta James?

    2. When you were a child, did Santa wrap your gifts or were they unwrapped under the tree?

    3. Will you/did you do Santa with you kids? Why or why not?

I LOVED my Super Nintendo and N-64!!!!  I used to spend all summer playing on it!  I.am.jealous.

I have to go to lunch with the other secretaries today and there is one that I just do not get a long with.  She is so loud, pushy, and in your face with her Paula Dean sounding accent that makes you think she is really nice but she is not!

I told Randall I should have a SNES party. Since I have two we could have four people playing at a time. I actually have two copies of Super Mario World too, so we could even do a four person challenge or something. Of course, we would need another TV in the living room, so I asked Randall if it would be rude to make the party BYOTV. Haha!

I did actually, though I'm not sure exactly who that is :-P

    2. When you were a child, did Santa wrap your gifts or were they unwrapped under the tree?

They were always wrapped! Its strange ro me when they aren't wrapped because opening them is half the fun!

    3. Will you/did you do Santa with you kids? Why or why not?

We will probably do it but I don't think I will make a huge deal about it. My parents did it some, but we knew the presents were from them.

I know feel like I'm a million years old.  :/

  • 1. Did you know the person who sings the good feeling part on the Flo-Rida song is Etta James?  No, I didn't know that.

    2. When you were a child, did Santa wrap your gifts or were they unwrapped under the tree?  Always unwrapped... and it was a free-for-all when we came out

    3. Will you/did you do Santa with you kids? Why or why not?  Oh yeah, Santa gifts are the best.  It's my favorite part of Christmas!  We don't wrap her gifts either.  Gifts from Mommy and Daddy are wrapped... gifts from Santa are set out.

  • 1. Did you know the person who sings the good feeling part on the Flo-Rida song is Etta James?

IDK even know what that song is! :o

    2. When you were a child, did Santa wrap your gifts or were they unwrapped under the tree?

Ours were never wrapped.  My parents would make us wake them up first, then they'd run down stairs with the camera to record our reactions.  I loved that!

    3. Will you/did you do Santa with you kids? Why or why not?

DH wants to do santa.. he wants our kids to believe FOREVER.  But, I'm one of those that wants to be truthful :/ We can still have "santa gifts" but if our kid asks, I don't want to lie..

I can answer that question - when they're not wrapped... that means that we've already opened them and set everything up... so she can start playing immediately.  It's so much fun to be able to watch her start playing with her gifts, rather than wait for us to cut the boxes open, pull the stuff out, find batteries and figure out how to set it up.  :)

  • 1. Did you know the person who sings the good feeling part on the Flo-Rida song is Etta James?

I know who Etta James is, but I have no idea what the Flo-Rida song your referring to is.   Talk about feeling old!

    2. When you were a child, did Santa wrap your gifts or were they unwrapped under the tree?

    Unwrapped

    3. Will you/did you do Santa with you kids? Why or why not?

I am not on TN to talk about kids so I decline to answer this question.

We are going tomorrow and the girl who organized it purposely left one secretary out.  I hate that she did that but I also understand why.  It should be interesting.

Re:  Santa.  My sister and I never believed in Santa.  My mom was so heartbroken when she learned the truth that she vowed never to have her kids go through that pain.  So we always knew the truth.

I did, however, put Mel through it.  I wrapped all her gifts--it never occurred to me that you shouldn't since all my gifts as a child were wrapped.  But I did use completely different wrapping paper that I hid away so she never saw it and wrapped her Santa presents in that.  You wouldn't believe some of the things I did to keep the Santa dream alive.

I took her to see Santa but never got her picture taken.  I was too busy straining my ears to hear what she asked him for so I would know what to get.

It's not lying... it's upholding a fun, timeless tradition.

  • 1. Did you know the person who sings the good feeling part on the Flo-Rida song is Etta James? Obviously yes, since I asked the question.

    2. When you were a child, did Santa wrap your gifts or were they unwrapped under the tree? Santa had special Santa paper that he used the entire time me/my little sister were true believers. I guess my mom must have bought like a gigantor roll or something.

    3. Will you/did you do Santa with you kids? Why or why not? I think yes just because it infuses a little magic into Christmas. Childhood deserves magic.

  • 1. Did you know the person who sings the good feeling part on the Flo-Rida song is Etta James? I didn't realize it at first, but I heard the original the other day and put 2 and 2 together.

    2. When you were a child, did Santa wrap your gifts or were they unwrapped under the tree?

Always wrapped! I don't think I ever realized that anyone got them unwrapped, that concept is very strange to me. Also, my sister and I would each have a specific wrapping paper that all our gifts would be wrapped in, even as teenagers.

    3. Will you/did you do Santa with you kids? Why or why not? Yes, absolutely. My sister is five years younger than I am, so by the time I figured out the whole Santa thing (age 7 or 8 maybe?), she was still really little. I thought it was so fun to foster the illusion. I remember helping to eat the Santa cookies, making sure to leave crumbs behind. It truly is magical, and I'm all for anything that fosters the imagination.

  • 1. Did you know the person who sings the good feeling part on the Flo-Rida song is Etta James?

I did not know that, but I do know who Etta James is and who Flo Rida is.  And I know that song.

     2. When you were a child, did Santa wrap your gifts or were they unwrapped under the tree?

    Unwrapped and ready to go!

    3. Will you/did you do Santa with you kids? Why or why not?

I'm probably not going to have kids, so there's no reason for me to think about this.

  • Summer defriended me on FB.  It made me kind of sad.  I loved seeing pics of her little dog.

Oh, me too, I didn't even notice until you said something.

  • 1. Did you know the person who sings the good feeling part on the Flo-Rida song is Etta James? I did not

    2. When you were a child, did Santa wrap your gifts or were they unwrapped under the tree? always unwrapped, once we got to the age we could play the VCR (yes i said VCR) most of our santa presents were videos - then it moved on to video games. This insured my parents plenty of sleep time before we were jumping on their bed ready to open what was under the tree :)

    3. Will you/did you do Santa with you kids? Why or why not? YES :) my brother broke the news to me that santa, the easter bunny and tooth fairy were all unreal as a way to be mean. I was probably 5. It really upset me - but then i had alot of fun pretending with my sister who's 3 years younger. my parents - still - to.this.day....have santa presents set out for us. We're 18, 21, and 24....and my mother still writes "santa" on the presents in "fake handwriting". makes me smile though :)

  • I just found out that my friend's first IUI didn't work. :( I'm so so sad. I was really hoping for a Christmas miracle.
  • Things didn't go well today. Here's the full story. I am sad and my family is very shaken but he was given a fair trial. http://m.thestate.com/state/db_97790/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=DD0fUuSV

I'm really fine and I'm looking forward to my fun girls day/night even more now. I'll probably be offline the rest of the day but thank you girls for your prayers. :)

  • 1. Did you know the person who sings the good feeling part on the Flo-Rida song is Etta James?  No idea what song you are talking about so my answer is no

    2. When you were a child, did Santa wrap your gifts or were they unwrapped under the tree?  Presents were always unwrapped and ready to be played with on the fire place with our stockings in front so we knew which one was which

    3. Will you/did you do Santa with you kids? Why or why not?  Honestly this is one of my favorite parts about Christmas.  I'm so excited we have SD this year for Christmas morning so we can do Santa with her.  It's not the same when you have to wait 2 or 3 days to see the joy on her face!

That actually does make a lot of sense!  I just didn't realize so many people had theirs unwrapped, since we never did! :-)  But it certainly does take the hassle out of it all!

Leslie and Anna- Sorry about the unhappy news :-(

  • Leslie- So sorry to hear about the news.  Have fun tonight!

Without googling it, I have no idea which song that is.

I cannot remember many holiday's growing up so I'm not sure about the gifts being wrapped.  We do not plan on telling our kids about Santa.  Our kids are going to be weird.

    Will her boss be mad?

One guy at work usually gives us a large amount of candy but he said he didn't have time to go buy any but would like to take us to lunch when we get back next year.  The staff was all excited  and "ooohing" and "ahhhing" when they got the email until they saw who all this applied and everyone just sighed and now they don't want to go.

Too funny on Santa, Steph.  What things did you do to keep the dream alive?  That is, if you don't mind sharing.

  • wow alot has happened!

     Leslie sorry about the news

    1. Did you know the person who sings the good feeling part on the Flo-Rida song is Etta James? - I can't place it now, but if I heard I probably would

    2. When you were a child, did Santa wrap your gifts or were they unwrapped under the tree?

My parents didn't give us gifts on Christmas. We got them from our aunts and uncles on Christmas day at the family gathering. Santa would come down the stairs and pass them out. We knew he was fake because which ever father was Santa that year would get upset his kids were scared of him and take off the beard. It pretty much happened every year.

    3. Will you/did you do Santa with you kids? Why or why not?

We haven't decided. Neither one of our parents did the Santa thing so we might not. It'll be a decision we make when they get to the age. My sister does do it with my nephews though.

  • I have missed y'all, and it's only been a couple days!  I'm loving being off though, even though I picked up J's cold.  But, it's day two, and I'm managing, so I don't think it will be too bad.  I do have a big huge AW though - J passed both his class final and his state exam, and he is now a certified Texas Peace Officer!  Now, on to the job hunt, but I am just so dang proud of him for this.

    Stephie, that dream is hilarious!

Leslie - I tried to buy dry shampoo once but I think I bought something else, because it did not clean my hair at all.  I need to try this glory potion you speak of.

Sarah - depending on what style you're going for and your flexibility, discount stores like Ross and Home Goods have lots of really cute frames for a few bucks cheaper than anywhere else.

This name stuff has me thinking... well, I've been thinking about it a lot lately, but still have plenty of time before it becomes an issue.  Anyway, James is a Second (not a junior) and wants to name our son, should we have one, after himself as the Third.  I'm not a fan of his middle name as a nickname, or Trey, and calling both of them James will be confusing and lead to nicknames like Little James which sounds like a pet name for a guy's thing.  So, have you ever heard of nicknames for the third in a name line that you liked?  (Sorry Tiffany for having a kid-related post!)

  • Angie, actually I had a friend in high school who was dating (and later married) a guy named Trip. His name is actually Whatever Whatever the third, and they call him Trip as short for triple. Their son is Whatever Whatever the fourth, and they call him Dru for quadruple. I think it's pretty cute, actually.

My sorority sister has a baby boy that is a third.  They call him Tripp.  Not sure how I feel about it, but it is an option.
