I have missed y'all, and it's only been a couple days!  I'm loving being off though, even though I picked up J's cold.  But, it's day two, and I'm managing, so I don't think it will be too bad.  I do have a big huge AW though - J passed both his class final and his state exam, and he is now a certified Texas Peace Officer!  Now, on to the job hunt, but I am just so dang proud of him for this.

    Stephie, that dream is hilarious!

Leslie - I tried to buy dry shampoo once but I think I bought something else, because it did not clean my hair at all.  I need to try this glory potion you speak of.

Sarah - depending on what style you're going for and your flexibility, discount stores like Ross and Home Goods have lots of really cute frames for a few bucks cheaper than anywhere else.

This name stuff has me thinking... well, I've been thinking about it a lot lately, but still have plenty of time before it becomes an issue.  Anyway, James is a Second (not a junior) and wants to name our son, should we have one, after himself as the Third.  I'm not a fan of his middle name as a nickname, or Trey, and calling both of them James will be confusing and lead to nicknames like Little James which sounds like a pet name for a guy's thing.  So, have you ever heard of nicknames for the third in a name line that you liked?  (Sorry Tiffany for having a kid-related post!)

This doesn't pertain to my future kids, or lack therof... so I can comment. We have this in my family. I think they are up to the 4th. Charles Franklin. Grandpa was Charles/Charlie (I think, he passed when I was very young), Dad is Chuck, Brother is Charlie, and Nephew is Charles.

What about Jay? Do you like that?  ..or Jim.  We have a James called Jim at our office.

ETA: I just realized that my post has nothing to do with what you asked.  Post Fail.  (See? this is why I should avoid conversations that involve progeny)

Too funny on Santa, Steph.  What things did you do to keep the dream alive?  That is, if you don't mind sharing.

Well the wrapping paper for one.  I would strain to hear what she told Santa....then later she would think of something else and write Santa a letter (which of course I had to open and read).  One year I paid $24 to have something she asked for last minute overnight shipped to us so it would be there--it was a huge pink puppy dog from Blue's Clues if I remember correctly.  Me and ex-hubby ate all the cookies and drank all the milk left for Santa (but we would be sure and leave some crumbs and stuff on the plate to make it look legit).  I think one year ex-hubby even made reindeer prints outside or something.

     Stuff like that.  :)

  • Tiffany - no, that is helpful also!  Jay is on my list of options, but not Jim, because MIL's a-hole husband is Jimmy (nn for James also), and I don't want there to be any confusion with him thinking that he influenced our future child's name in any way, shape or form.  But, nicknames of James are okay too!

  • And about Santa... our gifts were always unwrapped.  No, they are always unwrapped, because Santa still comes to visit us.  We will definitely be doing Santa with our kids.  I don't know what all we'll do though, because I just realized that I have no idea what J's Santa traditions were growing up.  Wife fail.
  • According to Wikipedia, James is derived from the same Hebrew name as Jacob, so that could be another option.

I'm not exactly answering your question but I'm saying it anyways.  My friend is naming their kid David something after some relatives and since there are so many David's in their family, they are calling him by his initials: D. H.

Other options for James III: Initials JT or whatever, Jameson or JJ.  Jacub, for J^3 (J-cubed).  There's also Jim or Jimmy.

I'm currently listening to George W's book and the thought has crossed my mind how Barbara differentiated between the two George's at home growing up.

Yep, James and Jacob are both the same word in Hebrew.  If I had paid attention in class, I could tell you what they were but I'm a slacker.

    Ok, I'll just repost mine.

So I had a dream about Julie and her MIL last night.

Julie and MIL were out running errands and stopped for lunch at this place that MIL chooses that was kind of like a CiCi's Pizza.  MIL ordered her lunch and paid for it without even offering to pay for Julie.

Julie is looking at the menu when MIL tells her to just get the pepperoni rolls because they are the best thing on the menu.  She also insists that Julie get extra sauce for dipping.

They go and sit down and the only other people there are little kids having birthday parties.  The whole time MIL talks about how wonderful Bill is.  Julie says MIL talks about Bill like he's still 4 years old.

Then they go for ice cream but MIL doesn't want any.  Julie orders 4 scoops just to p*ss MIL off and tells her that whenever her and Bill go for ice cream, that's what Bill always gets.  MIL is appalled.

    The End.

OMG!!!!  Something moderately similar actually happened last year when they came to visit.  They were mad at both of us because we each ordered our own individual pizza and had dessert just to kind of rub it in.  This.  is.  awesome.

Daniel's dad and younger brother are both named Gary, and to this day, even though his brother is 25, we still call them Big Gary & Little Gary. Kinda weird now that you mentioned it.

Julie, I swear I woke up laughing this morning at this!  In my dream you were just telling us the story but I was also seeing it as it all happened.

I thought the whole thing about the pepperoni rolls was hilarious since so many people have been talking about them.

I am not on TN to talk about kids so I decline to answer this question.

    LMAO.

This is so sweet and gave me ideas on things to do with my son. I always use different wrapping paper than the other gifts. This year we are going to start the milk and cookies since he understands who Santa is. Thanks for sharing. Smile

This just happened to me.  Cadence saw Santa yesterday and came up with gifts that she has NEVER mentioned before.

I had to go to Amazon this morning and order more like a mad woman!

  • I got presents from Santa up until my mom died.  Last year was the first year to not get presents from Santa and it was really hard.  My parents asked us several years ago if we still wanted presents from Santa and my brother and I both said yes (we never got presents from our parents).

My brother was devastated when he found out about Santa--some jerks in his class told him and then made fun of him.

I just finished making one of my mother's ambrosia cakes because my brother loves it.  I have never tried it but now I kind of want to.  It was pretty easy to make so I may be making it more often.

  • Julie-  Did BluDoor do your Christmas cards this year?  I was looking at some they posted on FB and thought of the cute one you had done last year.

Andy's family has a Big Mark, Middle Mark, and Little Mark.  "Little" Mark's mom told me recently that they also used to call him "IBM" for "Itty Bitty Mark."  Now, at 26, he's the tallest of all three.

They did.  We're on there.  Befriend me?  We had fun this year doing them!

  • so we found a perfect house on friday and put in an offer. we got the counter offer today - its not only $6k over what we originally bid...but its also over the asking price. turns out the seller can't go any lower than THAT number - because that's the amount left on the loan.

we have to retract our offer because we can't afford the upped price, down payment - and we know it'll need a few slight repairs.

Ahhh, I'm so sorry, Ashlee.  You'll find one, I just know it.

Hee, I've been there!  Oh the things we will do for our kids!

  • Ashlee - I'm sorry, that's a total bummer.  I didn't know sellers could ask for less than they were even willing to take, what a crock.  Buying a home is probably the most stressful thing I've ever done, but so worth it... hang in there, and you'll find the absolute perfect house for the two of you!
  • i didn't know that either! total BS if you ask me :(
  • Ashlee- ah that's a bummer!  house-searching/buying is no bueno.

Leslie, stay positive!  prayers your way!

As for Santa, I totally see the magic in the illusions and stuff, but, I know I was SUPER upset when I heard Santa wasn't real.. I'm not sure about how I feel just yet on that.  Maybe still have the santa presents, aka the BIG one unwrapped and ready to go.. but without the santa title.

Lastly, went to a referred dermatologist today as my surgeon from last wk wanted me to have an area of my skin on my "cleavage" area checked out.  Thought it'd just be a check-up like thing, and then 2 minutes later they are giving local anesthetic for a biopsy. Ah! So thankful the lady gave me extra anesthetic just to make sure. I'm a baby when it comes to a razor blade looking thing near my boobs! haha. DH was there to hold my hand, thankfully. and keep me from looking.

My sorority sister has a baby boy that is a third.  They call him Tripp.  Not sure how I feel about it, but it is an option.

I like the Tripp option! but i'm one for odd names.

Oh, I've heard of parent's doing that before so it's not that out there like I was expecting.  I think it's all cute!
