Re: Our board is dead!- time for a poll...

  • Almost all of my "deferred vacations" are due to lack of money and free time:

Money:  Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti/any other South Pacific destinations, Antarctica

Free time:  Sri Lanka, Peru, Brazil

I had this dream of visiting at least 5 of the 7 continents before having children.  So far I've got North America, Europe, Asia, and will have Africa within the month (leaving for Tanzania on Sunday!).  We're probably going to start TTC next summer, so if by some chance the stars align, hopefully I'll realize my dream.  Most likely we'd try to make it to either Peru or Brazil!!!

  • 1. London for the Olympics

    2.  Israel

    3.  Abaco Islands

We had plans to take all of these trips within the next year.   Now we are expecting so London is out and the other two are on hold.

    Hey, congrats!

  • I would LOVE to go to Bora Bora, Tahiti, Fiji. The main thing holding us back is finances, plus the long travel. Mostly finances though. Hopefully someday, we'll save up enough...

  • Welll, being pg and due in May has definitely changed our plans for next year - I wanted to go to either Egypt or Greece, but I won't do that with an infant - maybe in a few years.

Budgetary restrictions will keep me away from Hawaii for a few years - I've still got to see the Big Island!!

Also - I've been to Cuba - its pretty cool, but a lot of the touristy areas are very similar to other countries. Now, their towns, tours, etc are fantastic, and the whole country is truly like you stepped into the 50's.

Mount Nyiragongo in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

I would really like to see the lava lake, but I'm not so sure about visiting the DRC. Oh, and then there's the financial aspect of booking what would have to be a guided trek. (PS - I would love someone to tell me that it's safer and less expensive than I'm imagining!)

I bet if you went as part of a trip to Uganda and just hopped the border to Goma for the night you'd be fine. Once in Goma you could definitely book a guide for cheap.

Everyone I know in Goma says it's really safe right now. The question is will it be by the time you've planned your trip and land there :)

I ? you, mxolisi! Smile Thanks!

Oh, and I forgot the top of my "not going anytime soon" list!

Inaccessible Island! Actually, I would love to just go to Tristan da Cunha, but assuming I could scrounge up the money and time, that's fairly straightforward. Inaccessible though? I would have to either book my own charter (with landing craft) or do the $$$ Lindblad south Atlantic crossing once a year until I lucked into clear enough weather to make a landing on Inaccessible.

But now that I have actually met someone who has been to Inaccessible, I know that it is at least possible!

  • I would love to do a lazy beach vacation in the Caribbean but H is more of a city/adventure/exploring type.  I'll have to save that for a girls trip.

We'd love to go to Australia to visit H's family that lives in Melbourne, but the idea of flying that far with DD and dealing with jet lag makes me hyperventilate.

  • I would love to visit Easter Island, but it seems so daunting to get there.

Thanks Kirkette!  I'm still planning to run my half marathon in March so I'll probably be messaging you questions as it gets closer.  Wink

Oooo, I would love to go to Peru.  I want to hike Machu Picchu.  BUT time and money keep me from doing that anytime soon.

  • My answer is Dubai and that is not totally something we couldn't do now, but I would seriously cringe when we saw how much that would cost.
