  • I'm here.  I'd much rather be back in bed asleep though.  I think I got SD and DH's cold from last week.  I was fine all weekend and then around midnight or so I started getting body aches and chills.  Didn't sleep much after that.  Not 100% sure what I can take but I'm so glad I alraedy have a dr appointment today.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas.  Ours was a lot of fun with family.  Yesterday was nice to finally sit and relax and do nothing.  Oh and we got the crib up finally!  Small things are starting to come together!

  • I am here, with a horrible headache.  I finally got into the book club book and finished it in about 15 hours which has now lead to the headache, I know better but never seem to stop myself.
  • I'm here.  I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.  I traveled all day yesterday, so I'm just really tired.
  • I had a great Christmas as well. I am here every day this week except tomorrow. We got home around 11am yesterday and I spent the whole day lounging around reading books while DH tinkered with his new things. It was an excellent end to the weekend.

I don't know if I ever mentioned it but one day a code enforcement officer came to our house and wrote a ticket for improper storage of trashcans (they were on the side of our house but still visible from the street, not acceptable in Fort Worth it seems) in early November. Well, DH was home when the ticket was issued, put it on his desk and forgot to tell me.

A couple of weeks ago he was cleaning out his desk and found the ticket, which was written in my name since out water bill is in my name. It was wayyyy over the timeline for dealing with it, so there is a warrant out for my arrest for improper storage of trashcans. It's so absurd it is almost laughable but I was pretty ticked at DH for just letting it go to a warrant. I now have to go to the court tomorrow to deal with it. Lame.

  • Leslie - wow.  A warrant for impromper storage of trash cans?  You might tell them how ridiculous that is tomorrow.

  • That is crazy Leslie!  I want to know what cop is bored enough to actually arrest someone for improper storage of trash cans.  I know FTW is crazy about their trash cans.  My dad and my step sister have both gotten tickets for not having the lid fully closed while the trash cans are on the crub on trash day.  Sorry you have to deal with that tomorrow.

Leslie - wow.  A warrant for impromper storage of trash cans?  You might tell them how ridiculous that is tomorrow.

For real. It also kills me because our neighbor got the same ticket we did but his cans were actually in the street two days past trash day. Ours were put away, just visible from one side of our house. I appreciate FW being vigilant about making sure the city stays nice but really, there are improper signs, uncut grass, tons of litter, etc. that seem like bigger deals. I think that one mean lady in my neighborhood probably called the city about the neighbor with the cans in the street and we just got to deal with the code officer's bad day too.

I have decided to start that blog. I was holding out hope that we would get a Christmas miracle and that I would be busy with that and wouldn't have infertility, weight loss, etc to talk about but unfortunately that is not the case.

So -- what good stuff did y'all get for Christmas?

  • Leslie- I'm so glad you are going to do a blog.  I am sorry, however, that this was not your month.

I got a Kindle.  I'm super happy!!  I'll add a question.  What is one thing you got someone else that you were super excited to see them open?  I got my grandma a Kindle.  The look on her face was priceless.  :)

  • My mom got us four place settings of fiestaware!  I love those!  And DHs sister got us a Keurig (sp?). Then we got some other things like new pajamas, two shirts and other things like that. I decided to get DH a new graphics card and he got me a new video game and a new mixer!

  • Sarah - We have 13 placesettings of Fiesta all in different colors. It makes for such a fun table. My grandmother has every color they have ever issued with the exception of a few really rare sets. She literally had to have a new set of cabinets built to hold them. It's CRAZY.

Yay for Kindles, I have a long standing love affair with my e-reader.

Gift I got: DH surprised me on Thursday when we were out shopping for all of his stuff. It turns out he sold two other guns we had collecting dust as well as the one he traded for his new bow and had more extra money than he let on. We were in Macy's and he told me that I really needed to get a new watch, which I had wanted for Christmas but knew we didn't need to buy after spending so much money on gifts for others. He then asked me which one I would buy if we were to buy one and bought it for me. :)

Gift I gave: My grandmother has everything but about six months ago she and I were watching Food Network and the chef had one of those little blowtorches to carmelize sugar. She said she always wanted one of those but would never buy one because it seemed so frivoulous. I got her one and she has become a blowtorching maniac. She tried to blowtorch designs into toast the other day just to see if it would work. LOL!

    That is so cute!

I just sent my sister off.  She stayed in Dallas with me an extra day because it was going to rain on her all the way home and apparently her windshield wipers can't move fast enough for heavy rain.  She helped me FINALLY get all our wedding gifts and other stuff I'm not going to use into storage.  It's so nice to actually be able to move around my apartment!

Gift given: We got all these great ceramic serving trays in Fredericksburg and gave them to our moms and brothers and sisters and they all really loved them.  I thought that would be my favorite thing to give, but then I picked up a little wine stopper, two days before Christmas, to give to my cousin and her fiance, and they acted like it was the nicest thing anyone had ever given them.  I was really happy.  =)

Gift received: A long time ago I commented on how much I loved a leather jacket SIL has, and how much I love leather jackets, so she and MIL went and bought me a really cute one.  And then H got me a cream-colored wool coat.

  • Hi Ladies! I hope you all had a really wonderful Christmas!

Ours was mostly great. Jack loves his bike, and Dottie loves... well, everything. :)

Christmas night ended on a pretty sour note, though. My sister was hateful and dismissive about my weight loss (and Mack's), and when I put two dabs of butter on the rice I was having for dinner, she said she couldn't "be an enabler" and go without saying that she was worried about my choices. Seriously???!?!? On ephing Christmas!? I was so furious. I walked outside. I came back in and tried to let it go, but my mom tried to make her apologize and she loudly refused and said she wouldn't "pretend we're not overweight and unhealthy". So yeah, lots of crying, lots of leaving my mom's house early... not the way I wanted to spend Christmas. I'm mostly over it now... I'm proud of what Mack and I are doing. I know we've still got a ways to go, but the fact is, my goal isn't to be SKINNY. I like myself curvy. I want to be an 8/10 instead of a 10/12, but I'll get there. My 5'9" 120 pound sister may always think I'm a whale, but she doesn't get to SAY that.

    Ugh.

Hope no one else had to deal with crap like that this Christmas. And Julie, if you're lurking, I hope your in-laws are being nice today!!!

Whoa.  Two things here.   #1.  Size 10/12 is NOT fat and pant size is not a reflection of physical health.  #2.  I don't know your sister, but your Size 10/12 body is probably healthier and in better shape than her 5'9 120 pound self due to all of your hard work.

I'm speechless and I'm so sorry that happened to you on Christmas.   :(

That's awesome!  :-p  I love the different colors and am so excited to have a whole set now!

Chelsea- I can't believe she said that.  And on Christmas of all days.  :-(  I'm sorry you had to deal with this, but you are absolutely beautiful and should not listen to what she says at all.  I agree with Tiffany that you are probably way healthier than she is!

  • Re: Christmas - ours was great!

Fav Gift I got:  For me, I finally got a Clarisonic! Woohoo!    DH and I got a big set of Samsonite luggage, too.  Which I'm completely thrilled about.

Fav Gift I gave:  I got my parents one of those great big propane patio heaters like they have at restaurants for their new house.  I was super excited and they loved it!

  • Favorite gift received?  That is a tough one.  I got the new camera I have been wanting from DH and my mom got me a Kindle Fire.  I also LOVE the A&M plate my dad and SM got me.  I think overall I had a pretty good Christmas and got way more than I ever expected.

Favorite gift to give?  I was excited to see my mom so happy about her new fountain.  The funny thing is she loved the new pjs I got her more than anything though.  She said she didn't get out of them at all after church Sunday.  I love how the small things can make her so happy!

Chelsea sorry you had to deal with that.  My sister had the same issue the week before at my grandmother's when my step mom's sister asked if she was pregnant and if that was why she was getting married.  My sister is 5'9 and maybe 150lbs and she just carries the weight she does have in her tummy.  She isn't fat and for my aunt to say that to her in front of the whole family put a damper on the day.  My sister left crying and my aunt just kept saying, "well she shouldn't eat so much if she is that worried about her weight.  I don't know how she thinks she will look good in a wedding dress in a few months".  I was so mad at her I told her off and left.  Some people just have no tact and don't know when to stop.

  • My favorite gift to give was the SMU ring we bought for my brother!  And I was also excited to give DH his IOU for a computer graphics card that we are going to go buy :-)  I didn't want to go buy that for him because I know nothing about them and didn't want to buy the wrong one!

  • Hi everyone!  Hope everyone's Christmas was merry!

Gift received:  Silly but I loved the warm cozy socks that Ben got me--he noticed that all the ones I had were getting holes in them.  I wear them nonstop in the winter in the house.

Gift given: my sister loved her gift from me--it was an assortment of things, one of them being something for her car that she was excited about.

Posting and running because I am about to leave for Tyler with my mom to see my grandmother who is in a nursing home there.  I haven't seen her since last Christmas and I'm hoping she remembers me.

Leslie/Chelsea - sorry for both of your troubles!

  • Sorry to those of you feeling badly today. I also traveled yesterday and am super sleepy today.

Re: Trash Can Citation -- I'm actually really surprised. Our rental house was in FW and lots of people in my neighborhood had visible trash cans before/after trash day. Our neighbors just set the trash can out at the street whatever day they feel like it (always overflowing, so never with the top closed) and pile up recycling/junk around it. Guess they don't patrol my neighborhood much...

I loved watching H open his gift from my parents. Years ago, when we both lived in another state, he bought a fancy chair he just loves. He wants the ottoman that matches it, but of course we're far away from that store now and it's expensive (never mind the shipping for a heavy item like that). Well, my parents gave him a gift certificate for the amount of the ottoman + shipping to TX. He didn't have a huge reaction at the time, but I think he was just tired since it was early morning.

It was especially funny because at Christmas Eve dinner, he'd brought up how the one thing we're saving up for now that we've finished the renovations is this ottoman for this cool chair ... blah blah blah, describing it all for my parents who he thinks don't know about the chair at all. My mom has NO poker face at all, so I tried to change the subject quick!

  • Oh, I almost forgot!

Does anyone watch Cake Boss - The Next Great Baker ( something like that? )

I don't, but the TV was set to TLC last night and I caught part of it.   It flashed a "Chad of Dallas, TX" as a contestant and I was like...wait, what?   I Googled and found out that he is Chad from the Cake Guys!  So I started watching, and didn't really stop.  Haha.

I was sad though that one of the eliminated contestants committed suicide before the show even aired.   All of this reality business may have gone to far.

Yes!  I love this show :-)  And I loved Wesley (the guy who committed suicide).  I was so shocked when they mentioned that at the end of one of the shows.  It is just so sad :-(  There was another guy on there that was from Ft Worth, but he was elimanted earlier.  And I was glad Minerva is finally gone :-p

  • Chelsea - I have noticed that when you start making changes in your life and show how strong you are some people get weird, people you would never expect.

Even if your sister is tiny weight-wise and really close with you, there might be some jealousy there about some things in your life (your business success, your family, your DH.) Since the weight thing is one thing she has always had on you, she feels threatened that you might take that too and now it is coming out in the form of her "concern" for you.

This could completely not be the case but it was really surprising to me when it happened with a cousin I have always been very close with.

  • Chelsea, wow I cant believe she said that, you are by no means unhealthy and you have been working your behinds off lately, so for her to not even recognize that is shitty.

Leslie, I will definitely read your blog

Tiffany, I watch the cake baker show, but didnt know about the suicide thing.

    Christmas:

Ours was pretty good, no drama with his mom and sis it was overall a pretty good trip.

Fave gift received: Matt got me a signed pink Tom Brady collecector helmet.  I never would have expected it and its so pretty.

Fave gift given is a tie:  Last minute we picked up a set up Buckycubes for Matts sis, I got a set of Buckyballs and they are a blast so we thought she might enjoy them.  His mom and sis ended up playing with them all weekend and it was just silly and fun.  The other would be Matts computer, we got it all set up on Sunday and he is just so happy with it and keeps telling me all about how awesome it is.

  • I'm sorry for everyone dealing with not so happy stuff, but I'm glad to hear there were mostly merry Christmases!

Warning: I'm about to write a novel.

As you all know, Thursday was my last day at my PT job. As I was leaving, my supervisor asked me to come in his office so he could give me an update on the interview process for the FT job. He said that I was one of four people they wanted to bring in for a second interview, but they were only allowed to bring in three, so I was their "reserve." He said I was one of their top choices and they would keep me updated on the process. But I'm not dumb, I know that the only chance I have is if someone has already accepted another job offer or something. There's almost no chance that one of those three other people won't be given and accept a job offer. I managed to hold it together in his office by biting my cheek and plastering on a big, fake smile, but I lost it as soon as I was around the corner. I was sobbing by the time I left the building, and I'm pretty sure I had an anxiety attack when I got to the car. I was hyperventilating and I felt like my throat was closing up, it was scary, I've never had that happen to me before. I finally managed to get myself home, and then I think the worst part was having to tell DH and my parents. That night we had some family over, including my cousin and her kids. It was so hard to fake my way through it, and that was the first time I've ever been sad to be around a baby, it just feels like that dream is so so far away now. I feel lost and confused, I don't know what I'm going to do from here. I'm so lucky that my parents are so great, they said if I want to go back to school they'll help me with tuition, but the thought of going back to school makes me feel exhausted. So if you guys have any insight, or know of any openings, I'm willing to consider just about anything at this point (except sales, I can't sell anything).

  • Anna - what exactly is your degree in? How far is too far to travel?

I don't have anything specific in mind right now but I will ask my BFF if there are any openings in their charter school district. Her mom is the assistant superintendent, so they are more aware of people who might be leaving soon and might have something for you that wouldn't be an ideal position for you but would at least be in a semi-related field.

  • My bachelor's is in Music Education, but my certification has expired. One Master's is in Musicology and the other is in Library Science. But I'm willing to consider something totally unrelated as well.

ETA: As far as travel, I'd be willing to take on a hefty commute at first, knowing that I could move later. Since we live with my parents, we don't have to worry about breaking a lease or anything like that.

  • Gift to get: my silhouette!  I'm dying to get home and play with it.  Also, I got a bunch of serving pieces that match our silverware, so I'm really excited about that too.

Gift to give:  the scope I gave James.  I got an old scope box and put a shirt in it, but then put his scope in a big box so he wasn't expecting it.  He liked the trick, and teased me that he was the one who was supposed to be doing the tricking :)

We had some drama regarding my brother's puppies, and there are still some hurt feelings, and the bad thing is that he acted so selfishly that I honestly don't think he even knows that anyone is upset.  There was also drama about the scheduling of things - he apparently thought that it was okay to ask 7 people to postpone all forms of Christmas celebration until Monday night while he had his Christmas Morning with his wife and daughter, and then was hurt when he found out we were planning on still doing the normal thing for Christmas, on Christmas Day.  Sorry, but you don't get to rearrange everyone else's Christmas, just because you prioritize your child.  One place or the other.

Chelsea, I would have plopped another pat of butter on, just for good measure.  Anna, I'm sorry for your bad news - I hope you find something soon!

  • I just worked out for the first time in over a month and it was amazing. My MIL got me the Zumba 2 game for the Wii and it is so much fun. I am sweating like crazy. It came with a belt so you can wear the Wii remote instead of holding it. I have been in such a funk, this feels awesome. :)
