Re: what big things ($$ wise) are you doing in 2012

  • Great topic!

I got a substantial bonus when my company sold this month and our "big thing" is NOT spending a penny of it! :) We're newlyweds and currently renting, so we decided to spend it on a house. Maybe it will become a down-payment by the end of the year.... but I have a feeling that won't happen until 2013.

  • Replacing our stair railing/balusters with wrought iron and box newels.  Maybe getting new carpet in bedrooms, game room and stairs.  Maybe total gut redo of our master bathroom.  I just haven't decided, yet.  Also taking a skiing vacation and maybe a dive trip.

I think wood or carpet is good.  We just like carpet in bedrooms.

  • We will definitely be buying a new to us car this year. One that can fit 7 two and four legged family members without someone having to catch the bus or ride on the roof.

We'll be moving again, but I don't think buying a house is going to be in the cards.

Oh, and meeting our medial deductible in the first half of the year. Again.

  • buying a new house in January
  • Paying down debt (house, truck, credit cards).
  • We are paying off another credit card(we just paid one off that will save us about $125 per month with DH's bonus)

Paying off my car a few months early.

Buy a few small things for the house including a throw rug for our den and curtains for our kitchen.

Save more per month for my IRA and Tyler's college savings.

This will be the year we pay things off!

  • Bringing home our baby and adjusting to our new life that doesn't consist of driving to and from the hospital. Super excited about when that unknown day will come! And then celebrating his 1st birthday in October.  New floors, new bedroom furniture for us, maybe paying off the Tahoe.

  • new front door and a ski trip in january; europe in april; saving to redo the exterior of our house (still deciding between stucco, siding, brick, etc)
  • No plans for big purchases or vacations.  Planning to pay off some debts.

  • Hoping to take the boys to Chicago. We will be enrolling J in Kindergarten, so that will be spendy.

  • Most likely moving to a new house. That puts everything else on hold.
  • I want a big junky house to fix up.
  • I have some insurance to cover IVF, but it will only cover one try.  So, after that it's OOP.  DH says he's naming our child "Kia" cause that's how much it will cost for one.  Other than that, we may try to pay off the house...if we have our "Kia".

  • Good luck Allison! I really hope 2012 brings you a baby.

As for us, money will probably be a little tight but it will all be worth it. I gave my two weeks last Monday and this Friday is my last day! I will be staying home with my girls and I'm so excited. I will be working on projects though and working on my dreams for a change.

We may take a trip to Amman Jordan and Dubai to visit DH's sisters in the summer.

  • Big events for some of you!! Congrats!!

We are having our Baby Boy in April, so all the expenses that go with that. Buying/Selling Real Estate.

  • Oh let's see...

I'm almost done paying off a cc. I think 1 or 2 more payments and I'm finito!

Definitely start looking at houses in the hopes of buying one this summer. Can't take the apartment living anymore. DH and I are ready!

Go to Vegas (neither one of us has been), skydiving this spring, a cruise.

Praying I find a job that pays more and that I'm actually happy working at.

As for babies... Not anytime soon. Thought about trying in the fall but I think we can wait another year. If it happens, it happens!

  • Paying of DH's truck and all out credit cards.  We should be done by February thanks to a generous bonus.  If this cycle doesn't work we'll be moving on to IUIs.  We also need to replace the flooring upstairs and add insulation to the roof.

  • I hope we are getting new kitchen and bathroom countertops and getting the floors retiled.

ETA: I prefer carpeted bedrooms for the sound dampening qualities.  My parents replaced the carpet in the upstairs bedrooms with hardwoods when I was in high school and it was much harder to sleep if anyone else in the house wasn't in bed yet.

Plus, we are talking about turning our formal living into a study which would include putting up a wall and french doors.
