what big things ($$ wise) are you doing in 2012

Re: what big things ($$ wise) are you doing in 2012

  • Selling our current home and buying another... maybe doing some renovating.

Maybe considering a third kiddo... that's $$$ right?

  • We are considering redoing our floors next year, as well.  Well, that is if DH survives the next round of lay offs - we will find out in February! Otherwise, we will be in "save" mode. :-)

I really like carpet and DH wants hardwoods.  Not sure how we are going to compromise.

  • - DH just started his own consulting firm with a group of guys he works with, so that is a big change for us financially.

    - Preparing for baby (having the rest of the carpet removed and hardwood installed in the last 2 carpeted bedrooms, some work done to the nursery, the whole interior of the house repainted)

    - I'm quitting my job to be a SAHM

    - possibly putting our house on the market towards the end of the year

  • We're going to do new hardwoods through most of the house.  I would also like to get some new furniture and finish my craft room.

  • 2012 is going to be a massive blood letting of cash.  Redoing dining room chairs (finally); new car; painting interior of house, and possibly exterior; baby and all the stuff it comes with.  On the plus side, we aren't taking any big trips next year, so that should free up a lot of cash to cover some of these costs.  I think we averaged $1000/month on travel this past year, so that money is going to get used.

  • ds arrives in february, so all the $$$ that goes along with it.

i'd like to put hardwoods in the playroom, just because the carpet in there is in pretty bad shape. we'll see if i can convince dh....

  • Well not in 2012, but right now we are in the middle of replacing our entire HVAC system: new AC, new furnace, new air handler, new ductwork, new air return, the whole shebang.  Yeeha!  not exciting but it needs to be done.  I don't know what house project will be up next... hopefully some built-ins I want and some sheetrock and painting work.   I dunno, our house is 50 years old, there are always lots of projects to choose from.

No big vacations planned (not on our dime at lease, maybe a family thing in the spring).  It's looking like 2012 will be a "save" year not a "spend" year, but we'll see.

My big boy is bounding towards 3! Hoping to add a sibling. image Hipster dog is not impressed.
  • paying of DH's car

    A Florida trip

Just got a (new to me) car that payments start in Feb.

  • Roof and exterior paint are at the top of our list.  Continue to pay down the house.

Dh wants to put french doors in our master and add a deck.  That would also include a lanscape project.  That will happen, but not sure about 2012.  We will have to see how Real Estate and bonus look.

We do plan to buy a rental property in the next 12-24 months.

  • Nothing major in 2012.  This year was pretty spendy for us (two new cars, new hardwoods, vacation) so we'll be saving and paying down debt.

Also, hoping to get pregnant in 2012. Have to wait until March to start trying again. Revamping budget to prepare for the possibility of becoming a SAHM or working part-time in 2013 (if I can get the courage to give up my income).

  • Hopefully (knocking on wood, keeping my fingers crossed, praying lots!) nothing major in 2012, other than paying off medical debt from DS#2's birth and NICU stay and my stupid wound care management from getting an infection in my c-sect area.

  • OMG, this post is making me feel like I'm broke! Working part-time is great but payday isn't much fun anymore. I'm not ready to even think about going back to full-time but I have been picking up a few extra shifts here and there. I don't like not having extra money to play with Crying

    OK, pity party over ...

We've been saving for our Disney cruise in October with my family. It's almost paid for.

I'm trying to go back to school starting next month if I can come up with the extra $$$.

  • We actually did a lot of big projects to this house when we moved, but we still have some...

Maybe put a window seat in our living room, but not sure.

My mom and DH are going to give me a closet system for my birthday in May (California Closet-type thing).

We'll probably go to the Cape in the summer with DH's family.

We reallllly want to build a big covered patio in our backyard with a built-in fireplace and smoker.  DH has the plans all drawn out.  That is next on our project list besides my closet.

That's all I can think of.  There's a possibility we might sell DH's 9-year old Tahoe and get him a new (read: used, new to us) car, but it's running fine, so who knows.
