She's been sick for 10 days now. The first trip to urgent care (in Florida while we were at Disney) they diagnosed her with an upper respiratory tract infection and gave her antibiotics.
Four days later she was no better and still running a fever of 102+. Another trip to urgent care on Christmas Eve where they tested for flu and rsv. Both were negative. They did chest xrays that showed maybe a tiny bit of pnuemonia but the doctor wanted a radiologist to look at the films. The radiologist said they looked fine. Diagnosis was some unidentifiable virus and she should be better soon.
This morning she has a fever, sores on her lips, swollen and bleeding gums and vomiting. She's lost 2+ lbs in the last week because she won't eat.
She's at the pedi right now with DH and I'm just praying they don't say it's just a virus.
She actually asked me this morning to call her teacher at daycare and ask her friends to pray for her.
Update: The pedi immediately recognized it as the primary outbreak of herpes simplex virus. Her big sister developed a cold sore right before we left for Disney and I'm sure that's where she got it from.

Re: Updated: Prayers/good thoughts for youngest DD please.
Poor baby girl! Prayers said that she is feeling better soon.
Oh my goodness! Lots of prayers for her (and you!). Poor thing. Asking you to call her teacher to ask her friends to pray for her just breaks my heart.
ditto all of this!
hugs!

Does she have foot and mouth disease? My doctor said that it goes around daycares and involves sores in the mouth and high fevers.
Overview
Hand, foot, and mouth disease is a common viral illness that usually affects infants and children younger than 5 years old. However, it can sometimes occur in adults. Symptoms of hand, foot, and mouth disease include fever, blister-like sores in the mouth (herpangina), and a skin rash.
Hand, foot, and mouth disease is caused by viruses that belong to the Enterovirus genus (group). This group of viruses includes polioviruses, coxsackieviruses, echoviruses, and enteroviruses.
Hand, foot, and mouth disease is often confused with foot-and-mouth disease (also called hoof-and-mouth disease), a disease of cattle, sheep, and swine. However, the two diseases are caused by different viruses and are not related. Humans do not get the animal disease, and animals do not get the human disease.

We're old pros at hand, foot and mouth. She's had it twice before and both older DD's had it as toddlers. If the sores had showed up in the beginning I would have known right away.
done, I hope she's feeling better soon now they know what the problem is!
I had this as a little kid--like 3 or 4. I don't really remember it, but it was awful. I have heard about it going around recently (within the last 6 months or so)

Glad they finally recognized exactly what it is! I hope some medicine gives the poor kid some relief soon.
So glad they finally have a diagnosis, I had no idea kids could get that sick from that particular virus.
Hope she feels better soon.
