Am I the only TIPer that likes hugging?

Just curious based on yesterday's rants/confessions post.

Re: Am I the only TIPer that likes hugging?

  • I missed the post, are you talking about hugging your partner (love), or hugging friends (meh), or hugging strangers (no thanks).

  • Nope. I like it too. I give hugs and get a lot of hugs.

(Most friends in the Renaissance Faire community are huggy type people)

  • I like hugs, not from strangers off the street, but otherwise, yeah.
  • I didn't read the post, but for the most part, I like hugging!  Our families and friends are all huggers - so you kind of HAVE to like it. :)

But, what about kissing on the cheek?  I'm MUCH more particular about this.  W/ my immediate family, I'll do it.  But I hated it when FIL would do it, and I actually started hugging him in a way to get him to stop kissing me!

  • I'm not a hugger.  Please don't hug me unless you are my husband, parent or maybe a sibling (but only maybe).

My old coworkers hugged a lot.  They'd always look at me, laugh and say "Oh, Joy doesn't hug."  Damn straight.  Don't touch me.

    Not strangers, but everybody else.

ECB - I would not like kissing on the cheek from anyone but family.

I actually feel sorry for you about this part.

I love hugging. I hug everyone who seems like they want or need a hug and if they don't respond well, I don't do it again. I am super affectionate with my friends and family and hug them all the time. I also say nice crap to them a lot. You know, because I LOVE THEM and I like expressing those feelings.

  • No, I too like hugging. I'm not always 100% in the mood to hug, and there are certain people I would feel weird hugging (certain coworkers especially!) but in general I like it.

You better like it! I'm pretty sure I hug you at least three times every time I see you, lol.

See, I need to be more outgoing with my hugging, I think. I love that you and Melissa are huggers because often on a Monday it's like damn, this day has been brutal, where are my hugs. OH HERE THEY ARE. One time she hugged me no less than 3 times in the course of a Monday evening. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy, lol. My sisters and I are very huggy. And now E has gotten to the point where he does his berserker run-and-hug with me which I love. Flying three-year-old hugs FTW.

  • I only like quick hugs. Extended hugs from DH only. My parents do this thing where you pull away and they don't let go, so you go back into the hug and you just stand there in this akward hug. I hhhaaaate it.

Haha.  Don't feel sorry for me!  Some people love hugging.  I'm just not into it.  I talk to everyone, go out with lots of friends, coo over pictures just like everyone else.  Just because I don't like to hug doesn't mean I'm lacking in feelings.  Geesh.

Now that you told me this I'm going to hug you while you're balancing in warrior 3 or something, just so I can get extra hugs in. HUG HUG HUG!

  • I'm actually a relatively "quick" hugger, but I have a friend who gives you a HUG, and I like it. It always makes me feel good.  I feel too ballsy, though, to do that to other people!

  • I like hugs from people I know and am close with, but for the most part I am not a overly affectionate hugger. A hug goodbye and hello is okay with me, but extended hugs at times that aren't hellos/goodbyes/good to see you/congratulations don't make me feel comfortable unless it's with FI.

  • I don't like hugging because I like my space.  I don't have issues hugging FI or my DS.  My relatives generally know not to hug me.  It's not that I don't love them, it's that I am not a fan of hugging.  Hugging =/= Love, just as Not hugging =/= Dislike.

My family and friends know I love them/care about them without having to hug them. :)

Also, I grew up with parents that didn't really hug me very often (if I got hurt or was upset they would, but not as a form of greeting).  I knew that they loved me even though they didn't hug me very much.  I did make sure though to hug my son a lot from the get-go, but he is not a hugger either.  But he's also a teenage boy, so that could have something to do with it.

  • Now I'm worried that maybe some of the TIPers I have met were weirded out that I hugged them. Apparently y'all don't want to be hugged! Ack! If I have hugged and offended you, please know that I didn't mean to invade your space or whatever!

I think I would feel weird if someone was hanging out with me and just randomly hugged me out of the blue.  I was talking about hellos/goodbye, etc

As a non hugger, it's not that hugs weird me out (and they certainly don't offend me), I just don't like people that close to me.  I understand why people hug and I don't find it weird or disgusting, I just don't feel comfortable with it myself.

Although, I haven't met you or hugged you, so maybe your hugs ARE weird! LOL Stick out tongue

I figured, but your post/question reminded me of one of my close friends who had a bunch of drinks on NYE and was literally holding onto me and hugging me towards the end of the night. I am not okay w/ this behavior.

  • I love hugs from people I love, care about, or even like.

When MIL tries to hug me, she ends up chasing me around the room because I do not feel comfortable hugging her.

Does she really chase you around the room trying to hug you? Because I have this image in my head and I'm LOLing.

    Zombie hugs.

She doesn't, but I feel like she would if I didn't just stiffen up and let her get that hug in. It's so awkward.

Ugh, my aunt does that when she's drunk, which seems to be a lot of the time that I see her.  She loves everyone and she'll tell you that a million times! lol

  • I LOVE hugging, but I have gotten a reputation as being not a huggy person, at least at work. Luckily, with my current state of affairs, my coworkers are ignoring that and freely giving hugs when they think I need them.

I used to work at Girl Scout camp, and that is a huggy environment, so when I am with my camp friends, I give and get hugs freely.

Oh, and I have been a lurker here, so hi...
