Re: B&M Monday
When I saw your FB status this morning, all I could think about is you getting another terrible headache!
Did you get a juicer--what have you done so far?
I made Healthy Meal Number Two last night: a whole chicken in the crock pot and brussel sprouts. I thought it was just OK but Ben liked it alot so that's a plus.
I have been tired since Christmas. I feel like I may never recover.

I kind of want a juicer. What kind do you have? And I'm glad you're doing well without caffeine. That seems to be the most difficult thing for me to quit.
Speaking of TV shows: does anyone watch Dexter? I am still reeling from how this season ended.
And is anyone watching The Bachelor? Man, those women this season are all kinds of cray-cray.

I would love to juice, but it seems expensive. Do you think it's very expensive? What kinds of juice do you make?

Stephie- my hope is that with lots and lots of water plus super healthy food, juice, and I slowly started scaling back last week, I shouldnt get a headache, and so far so good.
Other juice questions: I have the Jack Lalane juicer and I love it. I got it new on ebay for about $80 a little over a year ago. I put it away for the most part when we got the vitamix, but busted it back out this weekend.
My fave mix is spinach, celery, romaine, carrot, apple, ginger, and lemon. It sounds odd and looks awful but really all you taste is the apple ginger and lemon. Matt loves apple, strawberry, and carrot.
It can be expensive. For example my mix I made this morning of what I listed above filled an entire gallon sized baggie and made about 16 oz of juice, so it was a lot of produce for a little juice, but I usually buy in bulk (huge bag of carrots, bag of apples and the celery and romaine are cheap) the biggest expense for me is the spinach.
I get SUCH energy when I drink it, its almost like drinking an energy drink and it really is delicious, I am not just saying that.
ETA: The main downfall or issue can be set up and clean up. Especially since I mix so many things it can be a pain. I tend to put everything I want to juice in a baggie the night before and set the machine up, so in the morning I just have to turn it on and make it. Then I put the juice over ice and let it get super cold while I clean the machine. I can now clean it in about 3 min, but if you let it wait its a PITA.
I got a juicer for Christmas and I LOVE it. My favorite combo so far has been carrots, cucumbers, celery apples and an orange. I am still trying to stomach kale juice with ginger as a mixture. I can't figure out if it's the kale or the ginger I don't like.
I came across a whole site dedicated to carrot juicing when I was researching an option for asaparagus (which I hate eating cause of texture, but thought I may give it a whirl in a juicer) http://www.carrotjuice.com/
I'm not so good with the advice... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?
It's okay. I've been trying to finish a book since the summer of 2009. I think I am a chapter away from the end and hope to finish it today at lunch. I also have not finished Book Thief or Unbroken.
I was just wondering about you Bachelor fans the other day since there is usually so much talk or sometimes your own weekly thread, LOL. I loved how when they first started advertising, it was just that girl in the red dress crying.
Yes, Stephie, these women are insane this season. Especially that blogger from NY (Jenna?) Seriously, locking yourself in the bathroom on night #1? Too much!

I caught up on that yesterday. They are really CRAZY!! I can't believe he kept the crazy-cry baby-Carrie Bradshaw wannabe...she needs medication. I like that southern brunette...I think she was from Tennessee and her name was Kacie, but I'm not positive.
I watched The Lying Game yesterday on SoapNet, and I gotta say, I kinda like it. I'm DVRing the new episode tonight.:)
Other shows I'm excited about: Tabitha Takes Over, Real Housewives of OC, Bethenny Ever After, and Secret Life. I pretty much watch anything on ABC Family and Bravo
BL, thanks for the info. I don't think it's for me--I can barely make a Green Monster in the morning and get out the door.

That's how I am. I would have to get up way earlier. I always feel so rushed in the morning!

I just turned 29 on 12-31, I like to sew, do crafts and decorate. I spend my down time on pintrest, reading and blogging. I have two boys who are amazing and a handful at times. DH and I will celebrate our 5 yr anniversary in June. We just moved in to a 30 year old home that still has the original orange carpet in the bed rooms. We hope to remodel the house soon.
Ya, this season definitely looks crazy. I thought I wouldn't be to eager to watch this year, but of course I'm hooked as always. I like her too and the girl from Hurst, TX.
I completely agree with BL that the juice gives her more energy. I feel the same way when I start my day with a green monster.
I just want to throw something into the mix about juicers vs. green monsters. The juicer removes all of the pulp, which is the fiber of the fruit/veggie. When trying to lose weight this is bad. You are getting all the calories without the fiber.
When you make your smoothie in the blender you put in the whole fruit/veggie so you are still getting all the benefits.

I used to feel this way when I first started drinking them but not as much anymore. I probably need to switch it up. Maybe do some of the ones that have more ingredients thrown in or something. I am also going to switch to almond milk instead of soy for awhile. (I still don't know if soy is good for you or not--I get soooo confused by the conflicting data!)
@Wendi maybe try substituting spinach for the Kale. The GM girl also says you can really "taste" kale, while you can't taste the spinach at all.
Eating healthy is alot of work.

We have exams Wed. through Fri. of this week, so today and tomorrow are "Dead Days". Dead days are supposed to be review days (no new material), but the students think that means "we're not doing anything". I really wish we wouldn't have days that have names like this. It makes it very hard to get stuff done.
Also, I generally take care of the three of us for dinner on game nights (I call in the order and go pick it up if necessary). It's not a huge hassle but I'm so glad that someone else offered to do it today so that I don't have to get out in the rain.
This is the most honest statement ever!

I agree with this to a point, because it does take away the fiber, however if you get plenty of fiber from other sources you can get all the nutrients of WAY more fruit and veg than you could ever eat.
I literally put 5 cups of spinach, 2 stalks of celery, 4 carrots, 1/2 cucumber, 1 apple, 1/2 lemon and a decent nub of ginger in my juice this morning. I could never eat all that in a smoothie. I usually balance juicing with smoothies or even sometimes take the juice and put it in the vitamix with a little bit of the pulp and then blend that up.
I second both of your statements. It's one of the reasons that I try to buy apples already cut up, grapes in little serving baggies, etc.
Word to your mother.
I've found that I really need fiber and/or protein and/or a little fat to feel satiated. If you can feel full on a glass of juice in the morning, high five to you, but there's no way I could do that without feeling hungry again in an hour.
Oh gosh, I am so, so sorry to hear that. T&Ps your way.

I have to have protein too, I eat two hardboiled eggs every morning with whatever carb type item I eat (including juice). My breakfasts have to be around 400ish calories to get up and going.
That's so very sad. I'll keep your coworker's family in my prayers tonight.
