Qotd Thursday

If you bought a vacation home would it be at the beach out in the mountains...?:-) price doesn't matter

Re: Qotd Thursday

  • Beach hands down but only if the house had a pool and was ocean front. I hate sand with a passion but laying on the deck listening to the ocean buy not getting sandy is very appealing to me:-)
  • Beach, especially if it was ocean front. Not a big fan of the mountains, guess it's childhood memories of camping in the Smoky Mountains every summer.

  • definitely the beach. if price doesn't matter, it would be oceanfront and have a great porch/deck in newport, RI ;)

places like the adirondacks and the white mountains are gorgeous but i love the ocean more.

This exactly. Either one of those gargantuan houses in the OBX, or a staffed villa on a Caribbean island:-)

me, three. Perhaps we should all go into together and buy one and we can share it (may be the only way we could ever afford it!).... I would be so happy to have a beach house. So happy. So happy. (that will be my mantra for the rest of this week....)

  • I would definitely say beach, but DH is not a beach person.  We both like the mountains, so I guess it would be mountains.

Can I join in? Add me to the beach crowd.

  • I love visiting the beach, but I'd be too worried about hurricanes and such to want to own beach property.  So I'd buy the mountain house and trade off with one of you beach house people every so often :P

  • mountains, hands down. some place outside charlottesville (like near afton?) would be lovely, for example.

i hate the beach. i hate sand blowing in my face, i hate wearing a bathing suit, i hate the ocean (world's biggest toilet IMO), i hate how the sand sticks to you, i hate just laying down & sweating, i hate using port-a-potties (or the ocean.  gross), etc.

Also, i'm from FL so I've had ample visits to some of the best beaches in the country.  Still not a fan.

For this reason (along with culinary ones), the Caribbean has zero draw for me.

  • beach. I could move today.

  • Mountains, or on a lake.  I don't do the beach really.  Even at my parent's lake house the main attraction is the surrounding wineries and countryside, not the water.

  • Ditto the beach.

I dream of winning the lottery and buying a property large enough that my family can all come and stay all at the same time a couple of times a year.  Extra bonus - since I work from home I could live there all year round!!  (DH travels enough that he's never around anyway... he could join me at the beach when he has a chance...)

  • The beach all the way...a lake or ocean would work. I would almost prefer a lake.

  • Another vote for the beach.  I'll take sand over snow any day.

I agree!  I'm not a fan of the beach at all.  If I could have a home near a beach but with resort-like qualities, like great pools, then I'd be all about that.  If not, I guess I'd have to go with mountains even though I'm not really much of a fan of those either lol.  I'm truly a city person.

  • Hmmm - in the mountains, but on a nice clean lake. Best of both worlds!
  • definitely at the beach! we are beach people

  • Mountain Lake.  I spent all of my summers growing up in a summer camp (family house - it's the term NYers use for summer homes) on Lake Champlain.  I loved hiking in the mountains, playing in the water, picking prodigious amounts of wildflowers, water skiing, canoeing to Valcour, camping out.  It was the stuff childhood dreams are made of.

Yeah. Like Tahoe would be ideal.

Ditto. I'd give the edge to the beach, but DH would want mountains, So, a lake house is the perfect compromise!

  • I think on a nice lake where you could swim, boat, etc. DH and I would love to buy a cottage in the Finger Lakes - we visited Skaneateles, NY last summer and fell in love.

  • It would probably be the mountains but only because the ILs already have a house at the beach and our good friends have a lake house...so we're kind of covered for good water access.

We have actually talked about buying a condo or cabin at Snowshoe when our kids get older. We would probably rent it out for most of the year, but it would be nice to have a place of our own to stay when we go skiing up there. Plus, I love that area (grandma grew up there) so it would be nice to have a reason to go more often.

  • Definitely mountains, and hopefully by a lake or nearby river. I love being outdoors and find the mountains and woodsy type areas to be much more enjoyable than beaches. I'm not a fan of sand or heat. You can get sun just fine in the mountains and cool off in the stream that runs through my ideal mountain home's property. I could get lost dreaming of this place...
