If you bought a vacation home would it be at the beach out in the mountains...?:-) price doesn't matter
Re: Qotd Thursday
definitely the beach. if price doesn't matter, it would be oceanfront and have a great porch/deck in newport, RI
places like the adirondacks and the white mountains are gorgeous but i love the ocean more.
This exactly. Either one of those gargantuan houses in the OBX, or a staffed villa on a Caribbean island:-)
me, three. Perhaps we should all go into together and buy one and we can share it (may be the only way we could ever afford it!).... I would be so happy to have a beach house. So happy. So happy. (that will be my mantra for the rest of this week....)
"What is a week-end?"
Can I join in? Add me to the beach crowd.
mountains, hands down. some place outside charlottesville (like near afton?) would be lovely, for example.
i hate the beach. i hate sand blowing in my face, i hate wearing a bathing suit, i hate the ocean (world's biggest toilet IMO), i hate how the sand sticks to you, i hate just laying down & sweating, i hate using port-a-potties (or the ocean. gross), etc.
Also, i'm from FL so I've had ample visits to some of the best beaches in the country. Still not a fan.
For this reason (along with culinary ones), the Caribbean has zero draw for me.

Ditto the beach.
I dream of winning the lottery and buying a property large enough that my family can all come and stay all at the same time a couple of times a year. Extra bonus - since I work from home I could live there all year round!! (DH travels enough that he's never around anyway... he could join me at the beach when he has a chance...)

I agree! I'm not a fan of the beach at all. If I could have a home near a beach but with resort-like qualities, like great pools, then I'd be all about that. If not, I guess I'd have to go with mountains even though I'm not really much of a fan of those either lol. I'm truly a city person.
i'm in for this!
Stand up for something you believe in.
Yeah. Like Tahoe would be ideal.
Ditto. I'd give the edge to the beach, but DH would want mountains, So, a lake house is the perfect compromise!
I think on a nice lake where you could swim, boat, etc. DH and I would love to buy a cottage in the Finger Lakes - we visited Skaneateles, NY last summer and fell in love.

It would probably be the mountains but only because the ILs already have a house at the beach and our good friends have a lake house...so we're kind of covered for good water access.
We have actually talked about buying a condo or cabin at Snowshoe when our kids get older. We would probably rent it out for most of the year, but it would be nice to have a place of our own to stay when we go skiing up there. Plus, I love that area (grandma grew up there) so it would be nice to have a reason to go more often.
