Snow Day Randoms (aka Friday)

Happy Friday the 13th Girls. I hope everyone made it to work okay.

My Mom woke me up at 5am with text message that they lost power. 25 minutes later Coopersville Schools called for a snow day. Mom & Dad have no power because a huge branch came down in the neighborhood and took out a line.

I just went and shut off SS alarm so he can sleep in. I wish I could. maybe I'll get a nap in later.

I have about 3" of snow here. So glad I got winter boot yesterday!!

Re: Snow Day Randoms (aka Friday)

  • I had already taken a vacation day to clean house (DH is having a bunch of guys over tomorrow to learn how to brew beer).
  • I already had today off since I worked Sunday. I was going to go to a open house to check out a school for Allison next year but they are closed today.  So I told the kids they can stay home with me. Depending on how the weather plays out this afternoon, we may head to my parents house or wait until tomorrow morning.

Anyone drive in from the east this morning. I'm wondering how 1-96 is?

  • We also got only about 2-3 inches.  Yay!  Hudson can't wait to get outside in it.

So I went out and got my party favors for Hudson's party yesterday...a Scooby Doo coloring book, a small thing of play-doh and fruit snacks.  Does that sound okay?  Another question though,  should I send out thank you notes for the gifts Hudson gets at his party?  I forget the protocol.  I wouldn't expect one from one of my friends, but I want to be polite.

Wendy - Beer brewing, huh?  My friends' dad always used to brew his own beer when I was younger. The smell is very distinct.  LOL!

    sounds like fun favors.

Techinally if you say thank you in person, you don't need to send a TY note, however I still do it so hopefully the kids get used to sending thank you notes. Othwerwise in cases where they should send thank you notes (showers, gifts in the mail) I don't think they would even think to do so.

Also, I think it is a good time for them to sit down after the fact and realize who gave them what. Too often at parties, it is crazy and they just rush through opening the gifts.

I did TY notes a few weeks ago with the girls and I listed off the people who we had write a note for and I forgot our neighbor girl, but Allison quickly pointed it out to me. She was so proud of her drawing she did and couldn't wait to bring it over. She hounded me all afternoon to see if C was home yet.

  • Happy snowy morning! The snow is gorgeous on our trees! I was surprised to see Grandville schools closed but not Holland or Zeeland. Goodgollie, I would send TY notes.

  • We have a professionalism event this afternoon, so I'm breaking in my new suit.  It feels so formal and I feel so corporate-y!
  • Oh and ps, just a dusting of snow over here.
  • Good morning and TGIF ladies!

Cold and snowy here. But not bad. No school closings. You all get closed down for 3 inches of snow? Or was I reading that wrong?

The favors sound great.  I'm not doing favors at all, so they are way better than mine.  Wink

I spent about $5 on decorations, $20 on a cake, $150 on food and I'm calling it good.  Haha.  The food is going to be soooooooooo good, I can't wait.

As for thank you notes, well my friends never send them when we go to their kids' parties.  Last year I wrote them out to everyone, and they are still sitting in a drawer in my desk here at work.  Embarrassed  I wonder if people would think it was hilarious if I handed them out at the party tomorrow.  lol.

Okay (sigh). LOL!  I hate writing thank you notes.  I also think its a waste of paper.  =P  By the way, Jim said he had no problems driving to work this morning.  Be careful anyway!

Hehe, I certainly don't expect thank you notes for anything except a wedding gift.  It just goes straight into the trash anyway. Your budget sounds just about like mine, except I bought ZERO decorations.  Maybe I should at least get some streamers...

  • yes, the smell of beer brewing is definitely distinct! That's why I'm glad they do it in the garage. I'm also glad that since I'll be away at the herb class I won't feel like I need to feed them all day :-) I do enjoy feeding them but we have nothing in the house and I don't feel like shopping. Looks like they'll have to order Jet's.

L is driving over tomorrow morning (which was the plan all along before the weather).

What's bringing you to your parents this weekend?

I spent about 5 on Noah's party decor. I went to the dollar store and got three mylar balloons and two banners.:)

There is ice under the snow, so it is making it slick. It was still really wet when I drove home from work last night. Then the temp dropped pretty fast.

  • I'm kind of surprised at how many schools did close and what ones didn't. I'm guess that it isn't the snow but the ice is the reason they closed. Either way SS got to sleep an extra 3 hrs and I got my 2hr nap in already.

Now I have to figure out how long I wait before I try and get to the gym.

Tonight I'll make chili with corn bread. I have a beer bread mix but no beer or any other carbonated beverage that I would want to use.

Wendy: What happened to your DH opening his own place? Still on or delayed?

  • Got my second grade back.  Definitely not as yay as the first.  I'm at the curve in this class.

I went a tad nuts last year (but not too bad) so I'm trying to reign it in this year.

  • That makes sense Amachuta. I just had the huh face for a moment. Ice makes it a different ball game. I hope you all stay safe out there. B is coming this way tonight if the roads are decent. If not, he will come tomorrow. I sure hope he doesn't chance it if it's slippery out there.

DP- no sweat. Important thing is you passed and it's over (no sweat). Don't let it get you down. I'm still waiting on those 2 grades. The first 2 are yays. I just want to move on!!

  • I spent over an hour reading for my history class last night, and I'm still not finished with that "chapter".   *gulp*  I have a feeling this class is going to be very time consuming, and I most definitely don't have a surplus of time right now.

Lucky for me, no class on Monday next week.  Just Tuesday.

I don't know what this means, but it sounds like you passed.  Party!!!   When you're off doing your lawyer-thang, that's all that will matter.

Wendy: What happened to your DH opening his own place? Still on or delayed?

We're waiting for either 1) someone to die and we inherit money 2) extended family pays back his Dad for their business loan and then we get to use it to start ours or 3) we're paying off our debts so that we can afford to live off my salary and DH can quit and use his 401k to start the brewery.

#3 is the most likely but will take the longest :-)

Are you taking classes at MCC? Are there a lot more adults in the evening classes?

Know that feeling. I know with yours it has a bigger start up cost but even with us just when we think we will be able to file and become "official" something happens. For us now it trying to figure out where we can move to and still run the biz out of the home other wise we will have to find another space to rent.

  • Not bad DP... not bad all!! chin up lady! You're doing very well!

There are A LOT of younger kids in my class.  I'm probably in the top 5 oldest and I'm ony 27.  There is a 60+ year old and then a "mom-type" in her 40's.   Then me.  Ha!

The teacher actually said "Anyone have a 2, 3, or 4 year old? ....  .....   ....  No one?"  He was standing right behind me to the left, so he didn't see me raise my right hand.  So I turned around and said "I do."

Seriously.  I am *the only* person in the class with a young kid.

  • Mol - atleast the young kids arent having kids then in your class. They are smart. LOL
