Re: I'm soooooo bored

  • I was just thinking the same thing. What is everyone's favorite thing about winter? Even for us warmer climate dwellers, there are some seasonal differences. So what do you like, any winter activities, treats, events that you can't do in the other seasons?

I'm not a fan of winter in general.  I like Christmas and fires, but we have yet to have a fire.  Luckily, winter doesn't last long here, so I'm ready for it to GO!

  • Winter and I have a mutal dislike for each other.  I hate snow and cold.  And it hates me.  Winter always seems to make an apperance whenever I am in town.

This is especially true for visiting my parents.  Out of the 7 times I have flown home for Thanksgiving, 7 times I have had trouble either coming or going.  Mostly from snow.  I've had planes delayed. Flights cancelled.  Crashed my Grandmother's car on the way to the airport. One time, it took me 26 hours to get home.  It should have only taken 6.  And that includes the travel time to and from the airport and layovers.

Then there is driving in snow. Again, I hate it.  After I almost crashed my car by hitting black ice just 2 weeks after getting my drivers license with my two sisters in the car, I hate snow.  And it hates me.

    Smile

  • I really enjoy skiing, though I don't get to go very often.  It's something I grew up doing with my dad.  Traditionally, we go every year on MLK Jr. day since we both always have it off.  Now that I live in a different state, we haven't been able to do it for the past 3 years.  Definitely felt nostalgic yesterday when I was thinking about that.

Other than that, I enjoy the holidays and work breaks that come with the fall/winter season, and the look of fresh fallen snow-particularly back home around the lakes.  It's just beautiful!

ETA: We have quite a few friends who like skiing too and we hope to go on a group trip to Denver to ski. Jake says he'd much rather sit in the chalet and drink beer-because no one wants to see a fat guy on skis. Regardless, I'm determined to get Jake on skis at some point?.and I ALWAYS win! (HA)

  • I like the first snow of the winter. After that, it just gets annoying, but I like the initial excitement of the first one.

I also really enjoy the winter holidays- Christmas, especially. And we have a lot of days off from school in January and February too, which is always nice =)

  • sheesh, being a michigander (isnt that the funniest word?) for almost my entire life has made me take a good cold snowy winter for granted. this year has been so warm and rainy that i actually miss shoveling snow and wearing a hat and gloves in the car on my way to work because it's FREEZING outside... well maybe saying "i miss" these things is too strong a word but all of this rain is making me depressed. at least when it snows everything looks pretty and sort of magical and i can throw snowballs to my dog and make a snowman for her to bark at. with all of the rain it just makes for a big muddy mess every stinking time we take her outside.

on another note... i absolutely love hot cocoa in the winter :)

  • I like the cooler weather to a certain extent and in LA by cooler I mean 70. But I love having hot apple cider in the evenings, fires in a fireplace, ice skating (although here you have to do it indoors) but back home I love skating outdoors. I also think that the best time spent in the hot tub is in the winter. I also like the sparkle on the snow at night and greatly miss the really clear, cold winter nights. Even though generally it isn't my favorite season, and today I was not too happy with the chilly weather here, I still miss the snow. Although...really happy I don't have to drive in it :)

Where are your parents from? That sucks that you've had so many delays. I grew up near Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota. Never had delays at the airport or cancellations until I moved to San Francisco...it's always foggy there.

I'm bored too. Although there are some things I could be doing.

I hate the cold, I hope winter ends early this year. I can't complain too much, it is 65 degrees today, but very windy.

Well, I think of Pinterest as things I want to keep for later, things I might make or to give me ideas.  I don't care to pin celebrity pictures (unless it's for clothes or hair) or puppy pictures just because they're cute.  I follow a girl who seriously only pins those things.  She has no recipes, home ideas, or anything along those lines- just pretty people and cute animals.   Oh, and she pins stupid comic strips that make no sense.  I don't know this girl- I think it's time to unfollow. ha

yeah, I had to unfollow some people who never pin anything of interest to me, but completely take up the list of recent pins on the "pinners you follow" page with all of their uselessness.

I occasionally will pin quotes or funny pictures so that I can access them later to show people, but I don't do it very often.

  • Winter topic: I don't really know what winter is...we're supposed to be in mid-to-high 70's today...so right now, I don't mind it. When it gets into the 40s or lower, I am not a happy camper. If there is any ice/sleet/"snow", the entire area shuts down and schools are cancelled. I've been so blah about the holidays this year that it really just feels like another day, nothing special.

Pinterest topic: I pin pictures of animals most of the time because it is absolutely adorable and I want to own each and every single animal I pin...it gives me the warm fuzzies when I need them. lol. I'm not sure I have too many "random" boards that aren't really for a purpose...I think.

I grew up in River Falls, WI on the east side. I love the Lake Harriet area, it's one of my favorite neighborhoods in the TC area.

This is us too. We close for the slightest amount! People don't know how to handle snow and ice. One time, we got canceled for a "sun" day because they thought it was going to do more than it did, so the canceled the night before. Then the powers that be looked silly the next day because there was nothing on the ground, and it was sunny and beautiful out. The kids were playing in the street on their free day! lol

  • Stoked: Yep!  One reason I moved down here was to get away from the snow.  It's a 4 letter word you know :)

ogrady: I grew up in central IL.  For most of the time, I flew out of Chicago-O'Hare.  Then a local regional airport.  And we always seemed to get a nice snowstorm right as I am about to head in or out of there.  And then there are plane mechanical problems. And rain in Atlanta.  And . . .

  • I love winter because I make all of my favorite cool-weather dinners, like chili and pot roast, and I get to break out my sweaters, hoodies and coats.  But winter doesn't last very long here, so my prime season for those clothing items goes fast.

I also love seeing fresh snow, but I never get to see it down here in Florida.

  • The only thing I like about winter is that it means that we get spring and fall. I love being able to wear just a light jacket, a scarf and some cute boots.

I hate cold and snow. Yuck. Yuck. Yuck. I would move somewhere where it doesn't snow but H loves winter.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaat?! I would definitely unfollow someone if they pinned that must useless stuff! lol Sometimes I think it is funny that we're all following each other because I sometimes see the same thing pinned 6 or 7 times in a row by different people. I love that we have similar interests!!

  • I pin A LOT of stuff.  My BFF and I started using Pinterest more instead of our Tumblrs so mine is partially cooking, crafts, etc.  and partially celebrities, animals, fashion photography, travel, etc.  I use Pinterest as more of a photo curation site.  Sorry for those of you that follow me and get bombarded.  Any unfollows will not result in any hard feelings!

As far as winter, we don't get much of one in Southern California, but I love the holidays and the chance to wear boots and scarves.  I'm mostly a fan of autumn and spring.
