Re: S/O NYT 45 places: where have you been?

  • This is really depressing to me, but I haven't been to a single one of them.  I have been to the suburbs of San Diego though, does that count?  Ha, I'm so jealous of all you ladies who get to travel alot.
  • I'm a sucky traveler, I have not been to any of those places.  :(
  • i've been to Vienna!!  haha.  I travel a good deal, but it is mostly US and Carribean based.

Wow, this list makes me feel so untraveled, but at least it has a lot of inspirations for new places to visit.

I actually think that this is a bit of a strange list.  I mean, Malacca is nice and I like it and all, but I wouldn't rate it as top 45 places to go in the world and one of the top four places to go in SE Asia.

I think it's less about the top places to go and more about places that are on the travel radar this year. I guess Malacca made the list because of its burgeoning tourism industry? While other cities like London and Vienna made the list because of events that are happening this year.

    4. London

    5. Oakland, Calif.

    14. San Diego

    16. Florence, Italy

    19. Birmingham, England

    30. Tahoe, Calif.

    38. Jordan

    45. Portovenere, Italy

Lists like this always make me anxious to do more traveling, especially when I look up some of the less familiar spots and realize how cool they seem.

I think this is it. Although I still say Oakland does not need to be on that list.

    14. San Diego

    16. Florence, Italy

    22. Paraty, Brazil

I'm joining the club; although I'll be able to add London.  This makes me want to get out and travel more.

  • None. But I have had some nice trips/vacations.

Hmm, I thought I'd do better than that :(

  • Wow - I'm super lame and have only been to one place on the list.  Clearly I need to travel more!
  • Only 6.

London, San Diego, Tahoe, Birmingham, Glasgow and Florence.

I laughed at Birmingham being on the list.   It's been about 10 years since I was there, but my friends and I all called it the armpit of England (there was a banner in the airport that said "heart of England" so we modified that a bit).

  • Well that's not fair. I've changed trains in La Spezia, but that doesn't qualify me for Portovenere.
