New Snow Thursday Randoms
Re: New Snow Thursday Randoms
Re: Iowa I know. I'm sticking my head in the sand on that one. Ick.
Thanks for sharing about Colbert. I'm following the story, and love what he (and Jon Stewart, who is not collaborating) is doing. I can't believe that people are pissed because he's encouraging people to waste their votes. Chicken and egg, to me.
I love, love, love what they're doing! They're doing an awesome job of helping to bring attention to a very serious issue. And they're making a mockery of our election system... and that's okay with me.
B and I were watching the other day when Colbert was talking about how it's too late to get on the ballot in SC. And we were like, "Hmm.... where's he going with this?" Herman Cain! Open primary! Genius! I'm anxious to see how many votes Cain gets. Any more than 2%, and it's got to be a Colbert bump.
Where to ski at?
Meeeeeeeeee!
Pigeon Creek. http://miottawa.org/ParksVI/Parks/pigeoncreek.htm
It's in Olive Twp but is super peaceful and they rent skis cheap. Linus Palmer Park in Wyoming also has rentals.
I'd like to try CCS. Looks like Palmer Park rents skis for only $8.
Amelia was up all through the night saying her ear hurt. It could have been from when she wacked her head in the bathroom sink or maybe she got water in her ear as we went swimming last night. I would have loved to stay home today but I knew I needed to put my office space together, so I didn't
It took me 1.5 hours to get to work.
I get to work and start to put my new office space together and was told that....I don't get that space. I am moving to another spot that is not by the window and has NO privacy at all. Plus my new desk isn't set up, so I am homeless right now. Lucikly I was able to connect my computer to my network line so I can get some work done.
This is me right now

Luckily the groupon on the day is for Cascade Winery so I bought a gift card.
D&M - Thoughts to your CW - I hope they are okay.
BnG - Hopefully your DH gets a tow soon!
DP - Wishing for good roads and an easy drive.
That is creepy about the skeleton. Sidenote: My grandparents house in K-zoo was part of the underground railroad. In the basement, there is concrete floor, but there are 3 areas that go down - one is circular w/winding type steps and the other two are more rectangular - they had boards over them but when you would look down it would be cobwebbed and I imagined skeletons and creepy things were lurking in there. Needless to say, their basement creeped me out as a kid.
Also, I am currently at the hospital waiting for Andy to get out of his ACL surgery. I know things are fine, but it's taking longer than it was supposed to. He was supposed to be done at noon, but they started a little late too.
GVSU, that totally sucks that your office space got moved to a much less desirable location. Such a bummer.
Juli, that's really interesting about your grandparents' basement! Very interesting. Hope you hear word that Andy's out of surgery soon and surgery went well.
I was going to ask you this yesterday: How did he do with this injury while you were in NZ? I hope the pain was minimal and it didn't affect your plans too much.
T&P for your friend D&M. And good luck with the job BNG!
RE:J's eczema, yeah it kinda started when winter really hit. But it did subside some after a week of no solids. Also I don't think winter weather explains the hives and swollen eye lids. But who knows.
So... this is interesting.
"Students at a new Utah high school are facing disappointment after their choice for a new school mascot was rejected for one of the strangest reasons possible: Board members deemed it might be seen as offensive to middle-aged women."

What? Really? I find that quite funny.
Me too!
insert eye roll
Wow. Why is it always a cougar. Why doesn't anyone use Puma or Mt Lions. It the same freaking cat.
It actually didn't really affect him at all. He got his post-surgery brace early and wore that the whole time and used trekking poles to increase his security. We were able to hike as intended - I was surprised by this but he was also pretty motivated to not let it bother him.
As for my grandparents house, I actually hope to get there sometime this year to take photographs of the home and Underground Railroad areas. My grandparents have passed away but we've kept the house. I haven't been down in the basement since I was a kid so I want to see how it looks compared to what I remember. I'll share photos when I get them. :-)
Glad it didn't bother A.
I think this is so cool. I would love to explore that house! How fun. Enjoy
No accident reports today. **sigh** and probably not tomorrow either until the snow hits in the afternoon. :P
Fingers crossed for B&G's job application.
Juli, that's so cool about your grandparent's house. When I was younger, I read about Harriet Tubman, and I explored our basement for places runaway slaves would have hid. My parents kept a pretty straight face when they explained that a house built in 1980 would be unlikely to have hid people.
Is Andy out yet?
Okay, that's kind of hilarious.
I was also fascinated by HT. I used to be really interested in Civil War era history, but less so now and I'm not totally sure why.
I'm sure that's nerve wracking to some extent. Also hoping for a recovery that's as easy as possible for both of you.
