How many strollers did you/do you have?
FI and I have gotten the impression that you should have more than 1 stroller at any given time. How many strollers do you, or did you, have and why do people have more than one? I understand if you have one for regular shopping (like a basic Graco system) and one for jogging (I hear BOB thrown around a lot in this instance) because obviously your jogging stroller would be better to use on bumpy ground, but is there another reason that I'm missing for having two+? I'd like to be as best prepared as I can and not get stuck in an "oh no we totally need this RIGHT THIS MINUTE" situation.
Thanks ladies!
Re: How many strollers did you/do you have?
So Tasty, So Yummy
2: One big graco one
and 1 cheapo umbrella stroller from wally world
prob will get a double if we have the next ones pretty close in age for bigger outings
We had the SNG when she was first born
Now we have the Volo PAGAS posted and the Schwinn Jogging Stroller.
I had the SNG when she was a newborn and that was fantastic.
Right now I only the City Mini and it fits my needs well. We take walks in the neighborhood pretty much ever day, and it is great for that. It is big though and takes up a lot of room in the trunk. I need to get an umbrella stroller for some of the traveling we are doing later in the summer but I haven't bit that bullet yet.
We have the Phil & Ted and went on and bought the double seat for it before Marion was born. That would still be our only stroller if we hadn't gone to New Orleans and needed an umbrella stroller for going through the Quarter. We got the Chicco Liteway and like it, but we don't use it much.
When Eliza was born, we borrowed a friend's snap and go, but didn't buy one and only used it for about three months.

We only have 2 - 1 Snap and Go for the infant seat and 1 MacLaren Quest. We also have a double bike trailer/jogging stroller, but I don't count that as we bought it 2 years ago and I can count the number of times on 1 hand how much we have used it. (it was insisted by DH at the time, though).
We don't jog and aren't really out and about a lot, as we both work and tend to stay at home on the weekends, so it didn't make sense to us to have anything more than just the basics.
We have a travel system, a jogging stroller, and an umbrella stroller.
If I had to do it all over again, I would opt for a carrier + a Snap & Go instead of a whole travel system. Much less expensive, and we didn't use the travel system stroller as a stroller for very long before we realized how much easier an umbrella stroller is to store and navigate through stores.
The jogging stroller is GREAT though for walks and jogs, if y'all do that often. We have a Baby Trend Expedition and really love it.
Starting out, I would just get your travel system or Snap & Go and be done with it. That will be fine for a while and you can get the others later.
Also - the Baby Trend jogging stroller was a great find we stumbled upon at Once Upon a Child. Barely used and a fraction of the price.
And the umbrella stroller is the Babies R Us brand and was like $19.99. It has served us very well! Only complaint is it doesn't have a nice big cover to shade, but we don't ever have her outside in it for long - just long enough to walk from the car to the store.
we have 3.
the snap-n-go for the infant seat that we used when dd was very young.
once she could sit up on her own we went to a graco (model name escapes me) umbrella style - though it was a bit sturdier.
on vacation once we bought a cheap umbrella stroller but dd refused it.
My name is bpaullo, and I have a problem.......We didn't plan for 2 kids so quickly. I do not currently own all these, but have had them in the past 3-4 years. 7 total.
Chicco Trevi. Great stroller holds baby base. (sold it when Lila was out of the baby seat)
Bob Revolution
Bob Dualie (double)
2 chicco umbrella strollers (one for each car and plane travel)
Maclaren double umbrella (bought on CL, was my mall stroller, sold when I got the Joovy)
Joovy caboose ( stroller I use now).
3. We wanted the Baby Jogger City Mini and at the time, they didn't offer a carseat adapter that would fit the Chicco Keyfit. So, we bought a Snap & Go.
Last summer we were going to Philly for a week, so we bought a Maclaren on ebay. We wanted/needed something that would fold smaller and just decided to buy one instead of borrow.
If the carseat adapter had been available when we had C, I would have just gotten that instead of the Snap & Go. Then we'd only have 2.
Also, I'll add - should we have a second kid, we'll end up with some sort of double stroller, I'm sure. Maybe.
We had the Chicco travel system when G was born. When he was about a year old we got a Joovy Kooper and used that until B was born. Then I bought a stroller frame and used that. My mom just bought me a sit and stand from a friend of hers, so we'll use that until the new baby comes and then we'll get a City Select (we'll actually probably buy that one this spring).
The only stroller I've sold is the Chicco. I'm on my way to bpaullo style stroller hoarding
ETA: I've really liked all of my strollers. They've all served a purpose and we've used our money's worth while we had/used them. I liked my travel system stroller when I had it, but I also liked the stroller frame just as much. I don't think it's *necessary* to have more than one stroller, but I've found that as our family has aged and grown we've had different needs and uses for strollers.
3
- The Graco one that went with our carseat, it stays in the garage now but we are going to keep it for when we go on trips, etc. where he would want to be in a more comforable stroller that fully reclines.
-The Baby Trend jogging stroller. Inexpensive compared to the higher end ones. We use it every day (although, not any longer than 5-6 miles at a time) and it is still in great shape.
-A cheaper umbrella stroller. Gets the job done at stores, etc. but we have the Graco stroller above if he's going to be in it more than a few hours.

I think I am in the minority, but the most I've ever had is two at one time (three total over the years), and none of mine have been the fancier ones
I used the Graco Metrolite travel system from the time she was an infant until she was probably...1? I actually kept using the carseat in the car b/c she was tiny and we didn't put her in a bigger carseat (Britax) until she was close to 2, I think. I also kept using the stroller itself, but w/o clicking the carseat into the stroller once she got to the point of wanting to see when she was in the stroller. That lasted me a while.
I was also given a Maclaren umbrella stroller just for easier use, but I kept kicking the wheels when I walked with it, so I sold it.
Now I have a Chicco umbrella stroller that I love; I sold the Graco when I got this about 1.5 years ago. It's cute, super lightweight, and really easy to fold. I keep it in my car and use it when we go the Galleria, on walks, on trips, etc.
when DD1 was a baby we had a Peg Perego stroller that carried the infant seat and a jogging stroller. Never used the jogging stroller so I took it to consignment.
We still have the Peg but never use it. Our main stroller is the MacLaren Volo. oh and we have a cheapo TRU umbrella stroller that we took on a cruise and WDW.
At one point we had 3. A jogger for at home, one for in the car, and then an umbrella for travel I.E. going through the airport.
We have since given away the umbrella one because, quite frankly, DS even under 2 years was too broad for it. He had to hunch his shoulders to fit in it.
We still have the 2 joggers, but will probably be selling those. With baby#2 on it's way, we got a double stroller. We'll most likely get a second one again, too.
Why do we need two? Because we are both quite forgetful and if we take it out to use for walks around the neighborhood, guaranteed, we'll forget to out it back in when we go somewhere and need it.
No I don't jog and never have nor will I ever jog, but the tires all so much better for everything. If you go anywhere outside and are on gravel or grass, etc it is so much easier to maneuver and push. I see regular strollers getting stuck or the parent grunting trying to push regular wheeled strollers a lot of places we've gone.
Or don't get a travel system at all and get a Snap N Go for now and decide on the big stroller as you see what type of use you will get. I probably wouldn't do the travel system over again personally. I didn't ever love it and if I never had it, I'd never have missed the "features" I don't think. I'd have just had that much more $$ to spend on a nicer stroller that I did love.
To answer the original question, I currently own 3 but only use 1. I've never needed multiple at one time.
1. Travel System (Chicco) -- Havent used it since I got the Cybex one
2. Cybex Onyx -- upper end Umbrella stroller. LOVE IT. Technically could have used this since birth... It has infant seat straps but not sure how well that works.
3. Cheap Umbrella for plane travel -- only bought it so my good umbrella would not be damaged.
Emily (unless she goes through a major growth spurt) is going to be a pretty little baby, just like her mommy. She was measuring on the smaller side of average at her A/S but they'll measure her again in 6 weeks so we'll have a better idea of how petite our daughter will be. I'm 5', her daddy is 6', I thought maybe she'd split the difference but that doesn't seem to be the case. I wonder if her being small will make a difference as to how long I would use her "big" stroller before moving her in to an umbrella.
Seriously, I would pay good money right now to have a stroller showroom with EVERY model available to view and find out the pros and cons of each. Seems like BRU has 1 or 2 of each brand, but you have the travel lite, the fast fold, the Trekko, the Urban Lite, etc, and that's just Graco!!! I had NO idea I would obsess about a stupid stroller like this. Maybe I have too much time on my hands...
I thought a travel system would make the most sense because the infant carrier just snaps in and there ya go, and then when she is ready to sit up on her own more then just eliminate her carrier. I've never done this before--am I mistaken that that is how it works?
have you been to Baby's First Furniture or USA Baby? They have many many many more than BRU and have pretty knowledgeable staff.
yes, this is how it works and theoretically is what makes sense. But I also think lots of multiple stroller families are so because we all start with a travel system and then need something different after a while and some of us could probably have done without the bulky stroller.
it just all depends on you and how you use it. I didnt love mine (i guess i didnt hate it either). To me, it was just big and bulky and hard to maneuver. As he got bigger and we werent using the infant seat, i hated going places with it because it was so big.
Just something to think about and just my opinion. Again, some people LOVE their travel system and use them for a couple of years. Just wasn't my experience.
I need to get rid of some of the ones I've accumulated! I have 5, but 2 were free hand me downs and one a cheapo used umbrella stroller... those don't count, right?
First I got a hand me down Evenflo travel system stroller. A huge beast that I could barely lift into the car and took up the entire trunk. So I left it at home for neighborhood walks and got a lighter stroller. Big blue still gets some use around the neighborhood, especially if I'm only pushing DS. I love that it reclines completely.
Kolcraft stroller - very light but still had a roomy basket. I really liked it until the front wheels gave out (they just get locked, so it's annoying not a safety issue). Still have it in a closet because I keep thinking maybe I'll buy replacement wheels and use it again.
Jogging stroller hand me down. Nice for trips over rougher terrain - we used to live about a mile from Target and would sometimes walk there. It was a good stroller for curb hopping. It stays at my dad's house now.
$5 umbrella stroller, bought for a cruise trip.
Joovy Caboose so I can haul 2 kids. Nicest stroller I've had, hate the freaking foot rest in the front though, it's ridiculously short and DS is tall. As DD is 4.5 and walking a lot more, I've been thinking about fixing my old Kolcraft stroller so there's less to push. I find it annoying and kind of difficult to push the Joovy when only one kid is riding in it.
Maclaren Easy Traveller for carrying infant seat (I do not recommend a travel system. They are bulky)
Single/Double BOBs- not for jogging but for walking around the neighborhood and anywhere the terrain might be rough, like Discovery Green, state parks, ACL Fest in Austin.
Macalren Quest- we chose the Quest when T was little because he would sometimes sleep in the stroller and this one reclines and has a larger sun shade. THe reclining seat position also allowed us to use it earlier, before the boys could sit up well on their own. They need to be able to sit up for the Volo. When we no longer had a baby that would nap in a stroller, we downgraded to the Volo.
We also have a Joovy Caboose Ultralight, which is a double.
