Re: Wahoo Friday randoms

  • crossing my fingers that I'll get to go xc skiing.

    also making bone broth.

  • My dad is inspecting the new house tomorrow morning, and I'm tagging along. After that, my sister wants to go shopping and I also have to set aside a few hours and find someplace quiet to read and do homework.

Sunday we are having some family pictures taken.  I'm setting aside a few hours for homework in case I don't get it finished on Saturday.

  • I think we're going to a movie tomorrow.  Not sure which one yet.  Other than that, no big plans.

B surprised me yesterday with the DVD of season one of Dowton Abbey.  All of a sudden everyone (including Deeder) is talking about this show, and I'm quite confident I'd love it from what I've heard about it.  So, I hope to get into that this weekend.

  • I have class tonight and tomorrow.  Tomorrow night, we'll burrow in and watch a movie at home.

On Sunday, there's church and then a potluck with other families.  Jim and I will do some house work (painting, caulking, etc), and decide on the few realtors we're going to meet with.

It kind of cracks me up that I'm someone who has church in her weekly plans now.  I'm so grateful we found a place where we're all comfortable and nourished.

Hehe.  I get what you're saying here.  That's great news, though!  I admit that the community aspect that comes with a good church can be extremely valuable.

  • G'morning!

I'm very confident that I will love Fridays once again... in about 12 weeks.

Class tomorrow all day tomorrow then nothing, class Sunday morning, then nothing.

GRsweetpea, what church do you go to? Finding a house of worship is definitely on my to do list. I kind of grew up in the church, but B didn't so I'd like to find someplace we'd both be comfortable.

    Anniversary
  • Hi everyone! I work tonight and tomorrow DH and I are going to dinner to celebrate our anniversary. I can't wait. We haven't gone on a date in forever. Unfortunately, church has been quite an ordeal with N lately. Last time we went (two weeks ago?) he had a total meltdown and made quite a scene. The mass that they have a nursery at is during N's nap time. Pretty sure he would not do well! :(

  • I think I need a Pinterest invite.  Gasp.  I'm caving.

Do they have "big boy" rooms and nursery ideas on it?

  • The other night I was woken up to DH laughing and tickling my booty. Oh my goodness, it was so funny. He was asleep the whole time. He must have been dreaming about playing with Noah? I asked him if he remembered it and he said "I really did that?!" Smile

  • Bone broth???

I just had breakfast with my Aunt and my Mother at Panera Bread. My Aunt is now heading back to Lundington. I just informed my Aunt the Anthropology is now open in town and she added that to our "Shopping Tour" trip. IKEA and Charming Charlie's were already on the list.

SS has a 1/2 day b/c of exams today. He is going to stay at my parents after school to see if he can get his old snow blower working.

That's awesome. I actually do love our church, but for some reason it just seems more convenient to sleep in on Sunday :-/

@BnGCookies, one of the reasons we attend Monroe Community Church is because DH didn't grow up in the church either, and this is very focused on preaching and teaching to people new to the faith or are finding their way back. It's contemporary style though. Used to be more grunge, then we had a saxophone, now you never know what you're going to get but the drummer is always good :-)

Is it available on Netflix? Just wondering - we holed up and watched all 4 seasons of Breaking Bad and are looking for our next obsession.

Bone broth is where you make broth by using meaty bones and it basically simmers all day to get the good stuff (calcium, minerals) out of the bones and into the soup.

Haha!  I'll let you know how I like it.

Wendy, if you're looking for a new obsession, you might want to check out Boardwalk Empire.  We really enjoy that show, although I must admit that season two was a little disappointing compared to season one.

Yep, Season one is on Nexflix and season 2 is now airing on PBS. Are you a Mad Men fan? They have all 4 seasons on netflix as well. May I also suggest Sherlock. It a modern version and I just watched the first episode last night. That will also be starting a second season this May on PBS.

Bone broth. Sound interesting. Is this your first time. Let me know how it turns out.

Mol: Is your Dad an inspector or just really really handy?

Not an inspector, but he used to build houses.  He's pretty handy and knows what to look for.

I've gone on this rant before, but most house inspectors are pretty darn useless and a waste of money.  There is no recourse if they miss something, which happens A LOT.  I mean, there are some good ones out there, but most of them suck.

If my dad misses something, he has to answer to me.  Devil

Ha!  Nice.  That's awesome that you have him and his expertise available.

  • Des and Mol, send me you email address, and I'll send you a Pinterest invite.  You're gonna love it!

Amachuta, what a great story!  Happy Anniversary.  Enjoy date night.

B&G, we go to Fountain Street Church in downtown GR.  While most of our ministers have come from a Unitarian Universalist background, it's an independent and very liberal church.  People looking for a strictly Christian church would probably not make this their home church.  We love it for the community, for what our kids are exposed to and learning, and for the messages from the pulpit.

I have to agree. We found a ton of things afterwards that the inspector didn't

  • Happy Aniversary Amachuta!

I'm not sure what I'm looking for in a church anymore besides a sense of community, fellowship and worship. I grew up in a very traditional black church. B didn't really go to church at all. So I think it's time to find our own way. Trial and error I guess. I would like more diversity though. Our kids will be mixed, so I will want them to see all kinds of people worship together. Am I making sense? Of course race insn't my only concern. But it's there.

  • My husband worked at a church that comes out of the black church tradition in GR.  He did sound for them, so he talked about their music (which was incredible) more than the message, but I know that it seems to be a very uplifting place.  They were very welcoming to Jim, and he mentioned that while the congregation is primarily black, there's some diversity.  It's called Revolution Ministries.  I think they have a pretty good web presence, if you want to Google it.

  • Thanks GR(sweetpea)! I'll take a gander. I do love some good praise and worship sessions!
