Re: B&M Monday

  • I'm so sleepy this morning and traffic was worse than normal! :-(

I finished the Hunger Games over the weekend and now I want the second book!  I have to know what happens!!! But I'm number 8 in line at the library to get it :-(  I may give in and just go buy it so I can finish it.  I hated where the first one left off because I want to know what happens after that! :-p

  • Sarah, it's sooo good!  She's really good at the suspense.
  • I am way to sleepy to be at work today. And my husband and I fixed my friend up with a co-worker of his. Date was not good. here's what happened: (and all this is coming from DH, my friend told me some of it, not much)  First of all, she told him since his house was an hour away she'd probably stay up there (she's not that kind of girl, but that really gives the wrong impression) Second, he took her to  a nice Sushi place. And she hated it, didn't even know what she ordered. I adviced her get something "tempura" because its fried, preferably shrimp. Or California roll. Its cooked, tastes great, can't go wrong. Guess she didn't try either of those. Third, he took her to the Regal Begal (I've never been there, don't know anything about it) WELL.. they ran into an ex-"Friends with benefits" of his and her brother. The girl's brother tells my friend that her date and this girl slept together. Well friend gets mad and causes a scene. Hello friend! You have nothing to be jealous of, its a past fling and you are on a first date!!!. And finally...she gets so stinkin' drunk he has to carry her into his house. No idea if anything else happened. Goodness....I feel sorry for the guy!!!

  • I will get to "The Hunger Games" later.  I have some other books I want to read/finish (cough, last Twilight book, cough cough).  Plus, I have my spring break before the movie comes out.

I slept at least 16 hours from 10:30 PM on Friday until 10:30 PM on Saturday.  My stomach is feeling better but I still can't eat a whole lot.  Only three applesauces, a few crackers, and a PB&J on Saturday.  Hopefully things can return to normal soon.

Andplusalso, I just hate all politicians.  They can all go away now.

Lastly, to my friend in NV:  I'm sorry that teacher inservice means that you have to spend time with your son and stepson.  It must be awful.  (PS:  I know she really loves her kids but she complains about every single one of these days and now her friends are on her FB bashing teachers.  Just a little tired of it).

  • I'll jump on the tired train. I was not feeling well all day yesterday and it's rolling over into today.

Amanda I love the siggy picture you have up! It's really cute.

I had a great time at the G2G and Book club though! It was a lot of fun hanging out with everyone

Were all three books good?  :-)

My co-worker brought some cupcakes up here that are awesome!  The best part is that they are healthy and they are actually made with black beans.  So good!

  • I am tired as well.  I didnt sleep well but I am hoping it was just because I was worrying about all I had to get done today with being out 2 days last week.

Does anyone know anything about taxes or head of household?  I am thinking I can claim my mom for head of household and that would be awesome.  I am going to do some googleling later, I just always do them on turbo tax so not sure what I would need to prove it.

Edited to add: Or even claiming dependents.  I called h&r block and they said not to do head of household but as long as I can prove I pay for at least half of her costs then I should just claim her as a dependent.

  • Sarah - all three are fantastic, but the second was my favorite.  And, can you really not tell there are black beans in the cupcakes?  Really?  Because this type of thing always intrigues me, but I'm very texture-sensitive with food.

I had such a good time with you ladies this weekend too!  It was definitely nice to have things to do away from the house while J is gone.  After I left book club, I spent the afternoon cooking with a few neighbors.  We made 15 meals (well, 15 main dishes for J and I, about half that for the ones with kids) for $50.  And, it was so much fun.  I have decided that I like to cook when I'm not hungry & trying to get it all ready to serve at once for dinner, if that makes any sense.

ETA: BL - there should be some guidance on IRS.gov - it's fairly user friendly.  If you can't find it, let me know and I'll browse around and post a link for you.  I haven't ever prepped a return using HOH, but you might get a better result doing Married Filing Jointly and claiming your mother as a dependent, if she meets the criteria for that (which would also be on IRS.gov).

  • BL- my mom claims head of household as a single mom. I'm sure yours can.

Julie- are you still sick from the salad? I got super sick after dinner Friday, like throwing up, stomach cramps, everything. I ended up having to miss the book club meeting because I still felt crappy the next day. :(

Oh yay!  Now I'm more excited to read it!  And no, you can't tell it's in there at all!  She didn't tell us what was in it until after we ate it, but neither me or my coworker could tell that was in there.  They were so good!!

  • Now that I'm caught up on what I missed Friday... I'll join in today!

I'm tired today too.  My weekend was so great!  I'm so glad I went down to see my mom, sis & bro as well as some dear friends!

Speaking of taxes, I'm anxious to work on ours some more.  I thought we'd probably get some money back, but I don't think we will now.  Darn those higher tax brackets! :)

Yeah, I think so.  I mean, it's better now, I don't feel like I am actually pregnant and I'm not bloated as much.  Also, I'm sorry you got sick.  I don't think anyone else got sick so maybe you caught something from someone you work with or wherever you ate lunch?

ETA:  Bill, my own personal researcher, said that I probably rushed into this "diet change" to quickly and that smaller but daily would be better than really big every other day or so.  I get it but sheesh.  I don't really like my body very much right now.

  • Also, I was wondering if you guys picked a new book.  Never know when something might interest me.
  • BL - I think your "edit" suggestion, claiming her as a dependent, will be more the way you want to go.  I'm fairly certain that when you claim HOH instead of MFJ, you lose some of the benefits of MFJ.  You can PM me if you want to talk more about it - I don't have a whole lot of individual tax experience, but I can help you research things if you want.

We did. It's Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet  by Jamie Ford

  • Haha Deepthi, I totally missed that decision.  Woops.
  • Julie, I have had trouble switching to salad before.  It goes away though.  I am with whoever said don't use iceberg--it has zero nutrients anyway.  I do 100% spinach when I can but if there isn't any available (like at our salad bar downstairs), I use very little actual lettuce and load up on the veggies.  I've gotten to actually prefer my salads that way.

I got terrible news about my great Uncle on the way in to work--he is seeing a surgeon today for a mass behind his eye.  He thought he had an eye infection when we were there Thanksgiving--apparently the scans he had then didn't find it.

Also our firm is screwing up our paychecks--they are not giving us the payroll tax cut that was extended through February.  Our HR claims they haven't "had time to look into it."  I doubt they would even know about it if my husband hadn't told me to tell them!

  • I had fun on Friday.  I am so glad I finally got to come to another g2g!  Angela, I'm sorry you got so sick.

My B&M: I feel like I might have a cyst on my ovary.  It's been hurting since Saturday evening.  I'm ready for my body to stop hating me!

I'm sorry to hear about your great uncle.  I hope all goes well with the surgeon!

The great state of Texas did the same thing to us on last month's pay check!!  I highly bet I won't ever see that $200.  I really hope it's on this month's check!

I do like spring mix but I've found that I don't really care for iceberg a whole lot any more.

I need to eat more veggies.  We were going to have asparagus tonight with our salmon but Target was out.  Oh, BTW, I know some of you don't go to Central Market as frequently as we do (about once-twice a month), but, in their fajita/stir fry veggie section, they do have already cut and cleaned asparagus.  Plus, we didn't have to buy 20+stalks.  Although, should each of us be eating 10 stalks?  Anyways, I liked that it was already cut and we bought about 16 stalks for $2 less than the bunch they had on a table.  All we had to do was sprinkle on the olive oil, Italian seasonings and a little fresh parmesan.  Bill did end up getting a small thing of spinach for this week.  I may see if I can tolerate it later today.

I'm sorry to hear about your great uncle, Stephie.  Sometimes, those masses seemingly grow overnight.  I'll keep him in my thoughts over the next couple of days.

  • Julie - I need to be eating more veggies too.  At the cooking thing I did, we used the hostess's lasagna recipe, and she purees a LOT of squash & zuchinni and adds it into the sauce.  I haven't tasted it yet, but it looked normal & smelled delicious and I'm excited to have some veggies in there!  She said she did it to get her kids eating better, and it kind of made me feel like a kid, but whatever works, right?
  • Angie, that sounds like fun cooking with the neighbors!  My healthy meal this week is going to be that chicken rollatini stuffed with zucchini and mozzarella.

Asparagus is on sale $2.99 at Albertson's.  We got another bundle last night.

  • Stephanie, sorry to hear about your great uncle. Hopefully they caught it early. Prayer to him!

I really want some skittles right now. I'm looking out the window at work to see if there is a gas station somewhere.

I heard about this type of party and think it is very neat idea.  Easy peasy on your busy nights.

We will be having Veggie Lasagna tonight.  I'm not sure how this will turn out as neither of us like lasagna but I hope it will be okay.    http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/weight-watchers-no-noodle-vegetable-lasagna
