H just got fired from his job. They said they are restructuring and the position is no longer at the company, which is total crap since they already brought someone new in today. I am freaking out because I only work part time and my small salary cannot support the two of us. I've been looking for a year and a half for a full time position and I can't find anything due to the economy. I'm really scared H is going to have the same problem since no one is hiring here, especially since he's in the building industry. We also had our health benefits through his job. (They don't offer them here even if I was full time). I really don't know what we're going to do...

T&Ps for you guys. That's really brutal. Can either of you pick up odd jobs while he's looking? And he should be able to pay the premium to stay on his old insurance through COBRA (though it'll be expensive).
Hope things look up soon!

*Hugs!! I know it's tough to lose your job. Been there. Just make sure, like everyone else has said, he files for unemployment. It can take a few weeks to a month to kick in. Also, look into individual health insurance. It can be cheaper than COBRA, especially if you just get coverage for when you really get sick and go into the hospital, type thing. They sell it in 3 or 6 month, maybe even 12 month, increments.

T&P for a quick job search!
It really sucks that your H lost his job.
I'm definitely sending lots of T&P your way and hoping you both find full-time work soon. I agree with the others about filing for unemployment as soon as possible since sometimes they are very slow to begin payments. Hopefully your H's insurance covers him through the end of the month, and then you can choose to elect COBRA coverage or find alternate insurance.
Are you guys open to moving if you were to find an opportunity in a new area, or are you set on staying in the area you're currently living in?

do we have to keep him, mom?
thoughts of a smart girl
Oh no! Sending so many T's and P's your way. Everyone else has given great advice regarding health insurance and unemployment. This sucks so much but I think trying to keep a positive attitude is really going to help. When Tim and I went through some hard financial times it started to take a toll on our relationship. We chose to focus on the positive and it helped a lot.
I hope something better is right around the corner!
