Re: QOTD

  • DH and I "met" on a dating website.  I believe it was American Singles back then, which has since been taken over as part of Match.com. He messaged me and when I read it I was immediately interested because 1. He was cute. 2. His message to me was normal and wasn't sleezy/strange like a lot of the others I had received, and 3. His answer to the profile questions really closely aligned with my answers which was something he commented on in his message to me.  We talked online and on the phone for about 4 months.  He was doing a long term contract job in St. Louis during that time, but when he came home we ended up meeting in person.  On our first date I felt like I had known him for years.  I later found out from his friend that he used to talk about me during the time we chatted online and said "this girl is too good to be true, I seriously think she could be the one". (MELT) The rest is pretty much history.

I actually met DH when I was in 8th grade Smile We both went to Oakland Christian and its a K-12 school.  DH was a teacher's aide in my earth science class and I just thought he was the CUTEST guy ever.  His beautiful blonde hair (which has since darkened) and beautiful blue eyes just sucked me in.  Not to mention, he was always a gentleman to me.

We didn't start dating until 2 years later, when I was a Sophomore and he was a Senior.  But here we are, 7 years later, married and high school sweethearts Big Smile and he is definitely my best friend.

DH and I were high school sweethearts.  I played soccer and he was ran track.  I tore my ACL the first week of the season and he had bad ankles, so we ended up spending a lot of time in the athletic trainers office together.  I had actually dated one of his friends, so we kind of knew each other before the trainers room.  As the season progressed we talked a lot more and started flirting Smile  One of our other friends told him that I liked him and we had our first date the day before I had my ACL repair surgery!  The rest is history!

How sweet that you both married your HS sweethearts!!

    We met on MySpace. Embarrassed

He found my profile by clicking through other people's profiles.  He messaged me because we kind of worked for the same company.  We talked online for three months.  I also shot him down three times when he asked me out, but eventually decided to say yes.  It will be six years ago this March that we met in person for the first time!

Haha Brooke! Why did you shoot him down before finally going out with him? Were you playing hard to get or did you really just not want to go out with him? lol

LOL  He would ask me out to see his friend's band or "A bunch of us are going bowling, would you like to come?"  I wasn't about to meet him for the first time AND all of his friends!  Too much pressure.  I think he finally got the hint.  We met up for ice cream just the two of us.

  • My friend's husband J had an after work event and she decided to go.  It ended up she was the only wife/gf there and she started talking to this guy sitting next to her. The more they talked and learned, she asked if he was single.  He said yes and then she went on her phone to pull up my FB profile to show him my picture. ::Embarassing:: Embarrassed  She asked him if he would be interested and then started to proceed to tell him about me.

Later that night I received a text message from her saying she's setting me up with J's co-worker and started selling him to me. (He's 6'4, smart and has a good job).  I of course got really nervous and told her I hated blind dates.  It was too late since she gave him my number and he was calling me the next night.

The next night he called and we talked for about 3-4 hours.  We set up our face-to-face date the next night and the rest is history.  Big Smile

  • We met in March of our Freshman year of college.  His good friend from highschool lived in my dorm and a bunch of us were going to a house party and DH came along with.  He was lounging in a friend's room when I went down there to see what the plan was for the night.  I thought he was really cute Wink.

The next day I woke up to an IM from him because he had gotten my screenname from a mutual friend.  We hung out a couple times before the end of school but that was it.  I went home to Minnesota and he was here in Michigan.  We would chat online occasionally but then I got really drunk on 4th of July and decided that I wanted to leave him a voicemail.  Much to my surprise, he answered!

We ended up living on the same floor Sophomore year and we've been together ever since.

  • I met DH when I was a junior in HS.  He was my friend's date to our homecoming dance.  I almost didn't go to that dance, but decided to go the night before.  My mom was an angel for taking me dress shopping the night before!

We really only said hi at the dance.  A couple weeks later we met again at a different friend's b-day party.  I bet him a dollar he couldn't put his foot behind his head.  I lost a dollar.  We hung out all night, but I didn't think much of it, and he was still crushing on my friend.

We stared talking on AIM and became best friends pretty quickly.  He pretty much loved me from the start, but I felt weird about dating him because I had not pictured myself w/ someone like him, and I didn't want to mess up our friendship.  We dated for 2 weeks my senior year of high school, but it was weird, and I had a major thing for this other guy, so it didn't work.

We stayed best friends all through college, and he kept trying to convince me to be more than friends.  We had some great moments, but I just couldn't do it.  I knew he was the kind of guy you marry, and I wasn't ready for something that serious.

Well, DH couldn't take it anymore, so he broke off our whole friendship.  We didn't speak for months, and it was awful.  I e-mailed him on his birthday because it felt weird not to say happy birthday.  Surprisingly, he e-mailed me back and said we could meet to talk, but it was all on his terms.  I later found out that he meant to reinforce that we were done, but what actually happened was that we had a serious talk about our relationship, went to lunch, walked around the Plymouth Art Fair ALL DAY, and ended with a kiss.  It was an amazing kiss!

DH said that he needed 2 weeks to think things over.  If he still felt how he was feeling then, we could try being bf/gf.  Two days later, we were back together.  At that point, I knew that was it, and I was pretty  much ready to get married and have babies.

    The end.

  • Technically we met at a bar in Canada. He came out with a group of his friends and they met up with my group of friends. (One of his friends was dating a friend of my friend- so that's how we all connected).  I was dating someone at the time but we exchanged numbers anyhow Embarrassed  We talked on 'AIM' a bunch and decided to hang out when I was home for the summer (we grew up in suburbs of the same city). We went to a movie, he tried kissing me after but turned him down because I was dating someone and I was going out with him as a friend, nothing more. He was upset about that and stopped talking to me on AIM. I eventually deleted his name on there since we never talked.
About 4 years later, he IMed me out of the blue. I vaguely remembered him so I chatted back. Turns out he was now living in the same city as me- in walking distance from my apartment!  We decided to go out and have been together ever since. He still says he is so thankful he was drinking that night because he wouldn't have had the balls to IM me sober :)

On that first date, we went out to dinner and decided to go get a drink afterwards. The bar was dead because it was a Sunday, I think. Except for a group of drunk people at the other end of the bar.  One guy bought us drinks and then kept yelling "SERENDIPITY" at us.  We didn't say anything to each other that night but a few years later we talked about it and we both had a butterfly feeling about it when he was yelling it.
I truly believe it's fate that brought us back together.

I remember being like "Oh.  You answered." And he said something cute about well he saw it was my number so of course he answered.  I remember asking him if he watched any fireworks and he said no and I was sad for him because I love fireworks.  It was a short conversation because I was still in shock that he picked up.  Then of course we hung up and I was like 'OH MY GOD YOU GUYS I JUST TALKED TO TODD.  YES THE TODD!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and I proceeded to dissect the conversation for the rest of the night with my best friend.

So pretty much I owe my entire relationship to liquid courage. BeerYes

Thank goodness you both changed your minds!! How long did you both hedge around the blind date issue before you caved and went out with each other?

I know, right?!  It was about two months I think.
