Travel now and kitchen later.  Family trips are fun but it's not the same type of trip, and if it's important to you four years is a long time to wait for your next just-the-two-of-you-trip.  This is coming from someone who has a hole in her kitchen wall, an unfinished bathroom, and a number of other half-finished projects around the house...but we just got back from a fabulous trip to Portugal and are looking forward to another one to Italy and Greece this spring.  Travel gets priority now, but we're doing projects little by little as we can rather than an entire overhaul.

Italy & Greek isles- we are thinking of taking an E. Med cruise next year. Are you cruising or doing land sightseeing?

We're spending a week in Italy doing on our own thing sightseeing (splitting a week between Milan and Venice with side trips) followed by a 7-day cruise from Venice to Santorini, Mykonos, and Corfu.  It was a compromise of interests among six people!

    Which cruiseline are you taking?

NCL.  There are lots of options for the Mediterranean, but this one was exactly what we needed in terms of dates and location.  It's round-trip Venice which worked well with our itinerary.  NCL isn't a favorite on this board but we had a really good experience with them a few years ago.  We're flying into Milan, spending a few nights there to include a sidetrip to Lake Como/Bellagio, then taking a train to Venice for a few days with hopefully a sidetrip to Verona.  Hop on the cruise, get back off in Venice, and fly home.  The idea was to do heavy sightseeing in Italy, then spend the second half of the trip relaxing on the cruise and seeing the islands.  It should be a good combination - it's an anniversary trip for my parents with three generations.
