Re: Randomly Tuesday

  • D&M, you are far from being an idiot. I am sure all is well, you are just a couple weeks behind where you thought! At my 5.5 week u/s (with Noah) there was no baby yet either.

  • Mol: I think it's incredible that you could tell that fast. Way to go for being on top of things.

Charity: Sounds like it could have been an attack. I'm glad your seeing a Dr tomorrow.

Holy mother of pearl I'm freaking board right now. Even pinterest isn't keeping me entertained.

  • Noah won't go down for a nap and he's stage 10 crabby! I hope he feels back to normal tomorrow. I feel bad for him, but I am starting to feel bad for myself too! Bad mom!

  • We put my grandpa in Hospice last week.  He was becoming too much for my aunt to handle.  He tried getting out of bed one night after she went to sleep and fell, and couldn't get up.  He couldn't yell loud enough to wake her up, so he was on the floor for a few hours.  Sad  That was the final straw.

It's really heartbreaking.  He's confused and angry.   I know this is so awful, but I really hope he passes soon.  He's so miserable and there is nothing anybody can do.  It's incredibly hard to watch.

I'm sorry, Molly.  You've got a lot on your plate right now.  It is so, so hard watching this happen to a loved one.  Thinking of you.

  • I'm so sorry Molly. My thoughts are with you and your family.

It doesn't sound awful, it sounds merciful. My heart goes out to your grandpa and your family right now.

  • Hoek summed up my thought.  I'm sorry, Mol.  I hope you're able to find what you need from your visits with him.  And, I hope he's getting some comfort from your presence.

Is work, school, a few rentals, a toddler, husband, volunteer job, buying a house, getting pregnant and having a dying grandpa a lot?  lol.  I think I'm on the brink of insanity.  It's a lot at once, that's for sure.  But nothing I can't handle...right?  At least my uncle is not in the hospital.  :)

  • Thank you for the kind words everyone!  It's so nice to have a place to vent.  :)
  • Has anyone read the Hunger Games Triology? What did you think of it. I just finished the first one.

  • I'm going to vent about 1 more thing, then I am done for day.  :)

On top of the stress of my grandpa being sick in general, I've been less than happy with the staff at the Hospice place.  On my grandpa's 3rd or 4th night there, he tried getting out of bed again, by himself.  He fell and could not get up.  This was sometime shortly after midnight.  So when the nurses finally found him (no idea how long that took), they strapped him in a wheelchair (literally, with a strap), wheeled him over to the nurses station, and kept him there, hunched over in the chair, until my aunt arrived at 9 am.  So for probably close to 9 hours, he was sitting in his chair, slumped over.

Also, when they take in a patient, they have the family fill out a sheet of likes, dislikes, etc.  We put no cheese (he doesn't eat cheese), no oatmeal and a few other things.

So what do they bring him for breakfast?  Oatmeal.  What do they bring him for lunch?  Mac and cheese.  Another day?  Pizza.  WTF.

When we hit the call button for the nurse, it takes upwards of 20 minutes to get someone in the room.

Grandpa was hungry on Sunday, we asked the nurse for mashed potatoes.  That took 45 minutes.  They came back to the room twice in between the time we asked for it and the time it came, and they kept apologizing for forgetting.

Maybe I am just expecting too much because he's my grandpa, but for $9,000/month, you would think the care and service would be top notch.

    /vent.

I read them. I thought they were interesting.

I think those are all completely legitimate concerns.  I guess I can see them making a mistake about the food (unfortunately, this was a common occurence when my grandma was in the nursing home), but leaving him strapped in a wheel chair for 9 hours sounds completely out of line.

I think someone with your family needs to have a meeting with a manager there to air your grievances and find out exactly what's expected of your family (did they expect your aunt to come in sooner?) and what you expect of their staff.

  • Mol, that IS a lot.  I'm sorry you've had a rough start with your grandpa's care.  Cheese might be a hard one to work around for the kitchen.  It's just easy to make mass meals w/ cheese.  In a chair for 9 hours sounds really uncomfortable.  I hope your grandpa has an advocate who can speak up for him until he's getting what he needs.  Hugs.

There are 14 rooms total in this place.  And I know they have some empty rooms right now.  So I guess my thinking is that if a patient puts "no cheese" it shouldn't be that hard to accomodate that.  It's a really small place.  But then again, I am biased.  I just want the best for my grandpa during his last days on earth.

We have voiced our concerns.  One of the nurses told me she understood it would take a while for them to gain our trust back (after the wheechair strap incident.)

Personally, I haven't seen an improvement.  But then again, I know I am extra critical.

That sounds awful.  I'm sorry that on top of everything, you're dealing with this.  I can only imagine how frustrating it must be when you're struggling to cope with the imminent loss of your grandfather and you'd just like him to enjoy the food he likes.

I know you said hospice, but then my brain went to larger senior home.  Sorry.  Yeah... that IS a small place.  I hope they get their act together yesterday for your grandpa.  No matter what, he deserves better.

  • I'm obviously late for the party here - but it's still Tuesday so I'm posting!

D&M - So sorry about your gpa - watching the people you love grow older and less independent sucks.  Also, I don't really understand anything about your U/S troubles, but I hope all turns out okay with baby.

BnG - We use mint.com for budgeting and LOVE it.  I'm a slightly neurotic saver and it has everything on there in one place (our bank accounts, credit card, mortgage, student loans, etc.) and it makes it so easy to check on everything.

We live close to the airport - maybe 5 - 10 miles?  I never notice planes, and we live in the Lowell school district, Caledonia and Forest Hills are also in this range and all 3 are good schools if that's important to you. :-)

In other news, I had a pissy day at work and tonight Andy has class, so I came home and ate a half a bag of chocolate chips alone.  Feelings taste delicious.
