SA Wednesday

Brianna you pictures are gorgeous, I am sad we have to wait until next week to see more.

I got some feedback yesterday that kind of through me for a loop.  Months ago got feedback from my team that I wasnt fun enough or wasnt connecting with them on a personal level as much as I should, so I made some changes and have recently had a lot of my teammates tell me that they really enjoy the changes.   I got feedback yesterday that another team thinks that I dont hold my team accountable because we chat too much and do fun things.  We are really slow right now and if calls arent coming in my team doesnt have anything to do, so we have had way more availability to do these fun things, but when it comes down to their metrics my team is absolutely accountable for them and I have weekly conversations with anyone not meeting them.  I am torn on if I keep doing what my team likes or make changes (that my team may not like) but will help my brand with the company and other teams overall.

Sorry for the novel, I just cant stop thinking about it and dont really know what I want to do.

Re: SA Wednesday

  • Brianna,

I do love those pictures, so I hope Chelsea finishes up soon!!!!

    BBL,

I think that, sometimes, there's a fine middle ground and it's very easy to go too far in one direction or the other.  However, the fact that it comes from another team makes me think that they might be a little jealous that they maybe don't have the same relationship with their supervisor as you have with your people.

I know some of you lurk on TK a little but I wanted to talk about it here (because it's still bugging me).  Bill went to a family reunion last May mainly to see his parents and grandmother but also to see some other family, including people he had never met before.  Fast forward to this past Saturday.  Most of the mail we get is bills and junk so hand addressed envelopes with real stamps are kind of a big deal.  It was a save the date for this distant cousin whom Bill has only met once.  It took him a while to figure out who the heck she was AND she put her registry information on the STD.  Well, we took a look and couldn't find anything on their registry under $100.

At our faculty meeting yesterday, we had to talk about defining moments (like what is one moment when you realized that you really were meant to be here).  It made me tear up a little because mine came after I was in the hospital.  One of my students who was in the top 20 asked me to be her teacher at the recognition banquet.  Well, she wrote about how I impacted her after I came back and told that class that, every day at any given time, I would think about what class was there, if they were behaving and how they all were doing.  Apparently, she never had a teacher admit to thinking about the kids outside of school before.

  • BL- I'd schedule a meeting with a superior about it. Ultimately, it doesn't matter so much what other teams think... that sounds mostly based in jealousy. YOUR team sounds happy and fulfilled, and also very productive. I'd just ask a manager/director for advice on how to handle that situation. It will show that you're willing to ask for input, which is valuable, and also be a sly way of mentioning that your team is happy and productive enough to incite jealousy, which also reflects well on you. :)

  • Julie, if it was me I would ignore the STD.

Well, all of my tests for rheumatoid arthritis came back negative, but they still want me to go see a rheumatologist for further workup. I'm so confused. The steroids made me feel 100% better and I had loads more energy with them, but we still don't really know what's wrong with me. :/

Now I have to go find Brianna's sneak peek!

Oh, we are.  I just can't comprehend inviting someone to your wedding you have only met once.  As it was, at our wedding, Bill's parents wanted to invite all their friends, many of whom Bill didn't even know.

I think Julie has a point on the jealousy and I was going to say the same.  The timing of your post is funny because my coworker and I were chatting yesterday about how we are jealous of other departments in our building :)

  • Good morning!

I am so excited about our sneaks!!  Here's the link if you're interested:

I went to bed at 8:30 last night, and it was wonderful.

  • Brianna - those pictures look amazing!

BL - We had the same issue with a supervisor, but her employee were never reprimanded for their actions. If they are responsible and you are still able to have a good relationship with them then more power to you. It's a hard line to walk. Don't worry about what everyone else says because there will always be people who talk negatively.

Julie - I agree with Angela. Just ignore it and don't go. Do the have a different "Lifestyle" then most?

I don't know if we are suppose to bring up baby things. I'm anxiously waiting for our doctor's appointment at 2. I feel like it's going to be a long day of waiting for me.

I don't know about the different lifestyle.  Even my ILs were appalled that we were getting them.  It's in Houston on the first weekend of our summer.  I might still have school that weekend anyways if we have bad weather.  Like I said:  why would you invite a stranger to your wedding?

And, I know it's not Thursday but I just realized that we get President's Day off this year!!!!!!  Holiday in three weeks!!!!!!

  • Thanks ladies for the feedback.  Chelsea, the feedback came from my manager and he is open to whatever I want to do.  He doesnt really think I need to change anything, however your personal brand is extremely important around here (from everyone to the people you manage to the VPs).  If I want to move up I will have to make sure my brand is positive across all lanes.

Angela, yay on the negative testing but that sucks that they still dont know whats wrong.

Julie, nothing excuses the registry info, but do you think she was told by someone to send the invite.  I know there are people in my family that I havent spoke to in 10 years but my mom really wanted them to have an invite.

  • BL - If you're holding your team accountable, then keep doing what you're doing.  If there's a way to semi-publicly let it be known that your team is still meeting goals, like some kind of recognition you can give them, or something like that, you might consider doing that to let the other folks know that it is possible to rock at your job & have a good time doing it.

Brianna - that train tracks picture is HOT!

Renee - what can you tell me about Adamson High in Oak Cliff?  That's where my niece will be attending...

Deepthi - is this your first appointment?  I can't remember if you've been to the doc yet.  Either way, I'm sure you're ready for 2pm to get here!

I got a new phone yesterday, and I really like it so far!  I got the Motorola Atrix 2.  Also, my sister is coming over today to help me take down my Christmas tree.  Don't judge me.  Also, I got to work half an hour early today, and I'm proud!

  • Deepthi -

Fingers crossed 2 pm comes fast for you!

Train track is running through Trinity Park in Fort Worth. You have to climb a little hill and ignore the very explicit "do not be here" signs, but I think it's worth it. :)

Manda - According to TN rules, I have to officially have not the foggiest idea what you're talking about. LOL But you know how to find me. ;)

  • Angie - No this actually our second appointment, but it's the one we get to have an ultrasound and hopefully hear the heartbeat.

I don't know if it was mentioned; Dana had her baby!

I mean, I guess anything is possible, but she met Bill once.  Up until last year, she didn't even know he existed.  I could see them inviting my MIL and Bill's grandmother but I can tell you that Bill, his sister and brother wouldn't have had their feelings hurt if they weren't invited to the wedding.  I, myself, was disappointed because I was hoping it was a baby shower for one of Bill's cousins that he actually does know.

Also, for the first time in my life, I will be a bridesmaid next year at the tender age of 38.  My 3rd cousin (?) is getting married next March.  I'm not gonna lie:  I'm kind of excited that I might get to wear an ugly dress.

  • Deepthi, I hope that the day goes by fast, how exciting.

Julie, I guess if she never even knew he existed that is still weird.

One of my co-workers is chaperoning her daughters senior trip to Punta Cana and asked if I wanted to go with her.  I think I might.  Its only 800 for a week with airfare included.  I talked it over with Matt and he seems cool with, now just to see if our boss will let us both off for a week.

I just noticed that you were the photog after looking at your website. Awesome pictures. I would love to do a boudoir session one day.

BL - I hope you get to go to PC.  Do you know where you might be staying?  That's pretty exciting!  We honeymooned there!

Julie - YAY for being a bridesmaid!! Possible ugly dresss and all!! :)

  • Hrm, hopefully I can remember all I want to say...

Deepthi - I hope everything goes well today, and that 2pm hurries up!

    Brianna - LOVE the pictures!

BL- could you talk it over with someone fro HR?  Maybe they have a different perspective than your supervisor.

Chelsea - Looks like our mod has disappeared anyways, so I say, what fog?

  • Amanda, it is looking like the Iberostar.

Michelle, that might not be a bad idea.

  • DH and I went out to eat last Friday night and he was sitting to my left.  For those of you that don't know, DH's hair is longer than mine and he wears a low pony tail that comes about 6-7 inches below his shoulders if not more, and I've always given him a hard time about it..."How are people going to tell us apart from behind?"  Our waitress comes up from behind us and says "Hello, ladies.  What can I get you to drink? Oh, I'm so sorry!"  She was SO embarrassed but I was rolling with laughter.  And I still chuckle about it.

  • Ugh, what a morning already.  MIL was rear-ended today.  Our bad car karma continues.

Brianna, your pics are so lovely--I cannot wait to see the rest!

Deepthi, squeeee!  You must be so excited.  I'm on pins and needles right along with you.

BL, ugh, I could never have a job like yours.  You always handle your employees so well--just trust your instinct.  It's a fine line for sure and I personally could never walk it.

Yay for ugly BM dresses and trips!  Chelsea, I forgot to say yesterday I was sorry to hear you're still dealing with adoption details--hope it ends soon.

ETA:  Oh Angela, I am so happy to hear that they don't think it's rheumatoid arthritis.  My wrist is STILL bothering me--so much so that last night I couldn't finish the dishes.  I don't know what to do.

Haha! Yeah, Lacey, I know the rules. Sometimes it sucks that I can't talk about my job as freely as anyone else could, but ultimately, I don't bring it up because I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable. I really enjoy the friendship on this board, and wouldn't want anything to make me ban-able.

  • Speaking of bridesmaid dresses... someone I know is in a wedding, and they're doing pale yellow, short chiffon dresses from DB, which are actually pretty cute... with cowboy boots.  I'm pretty sure the bride is going to regret that decision, but whatever, it's her wedding, right?
  • Hi Lacey **Waves**

Angie - that's funny and yes it's her wedding.  Sounds cute though.

Stephie - Ohhh nooo, poor thing.  That's scary, glad she's ok though.

    BL - That's awesome!  :)
