Have to find a new counselor :(

And I wanna cry! I specifically called my insurance company before I went to see her to find out about filing claims (they don't file the insurance for you) and was told it didn't matter if she was in or out of network the only difference would be how long I had to file a claim. Fine. Well I just called to check on my first 2 claims and they've been denied because she's "out of network". Well why didn't they tell me I didn't have out of network coverage when I called in the first place!?!?

So now I need a new counselor and I don't wanna. But I can't afford to pay her. (and now I have to file an appeal to try to get some of my money back since I was given wrong info)

But I liked her. And don't wanna just pick a name from a list. And I don't wanna  have a gazillion 1st appointments if I don't like who I pick from a hat.

Im really upset about this :(

How do I pick a new counselor?

Re: Have to find a new counselor :(

  • I went on my insurance's website and just picked one. Since it was covered (minus the co-pay), I figured I can try/test her out and if I dont like her, try another one. My insurance's website also had a cool finder tool that let you search based on: eating disorders, marriage counseling, addiction, religion, etc.

  • I would ask her if she has a recommendation for someone who is in network.  She already knows your personality and I'm sure knows some counselors who could help.

    Yup.

Print out a list of the people who are in network and ask her whose approach is most similar to hers.

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
