I posted a week or two ago about my dad's gf's grandson who was born Jan. 15th and was in the NICU. Well, he's making lots of progress, but he's still in the hospital and it looks like it'll be another week or two before he's able to come home.
The baby's mother's family is putting together a fundraiser to help them with medical bills. It's a sweet gesture on their parts and the tickets are only $10, so DH and I really should go, but part of me doesn't want to. This is their second child and the mother stopped working when she was 6 months pregnant with the first (in 2008). She hasn't worked since, but they haven't changed their spending habits at all. They ended up letting their house go into foreclosure last year while still going to all kinds of expensive concerts and sporting events and buying all of the latest gadgets that they "needed." Also, the two of them are constantly tagging themselves at restaurants on facebook. If they need financial help so badly, maybe they should start trying to eat at home more....this was common even before the new baby was born, so it's not because they're visiting him that they're eating out.
Ugh. I feel like a terrible person even typing all of this, but I really feel like they're in bad spot financially because of their own crazy spending and while these medical bills aren't their fault at all, they might have more available funds to pay the bills if they weren't so bad with money.

Same here. Don't feel bad!
I'd do the same.... but I cannot stand when people complain about having no money and yet they buy this and that and eat out all the time.

My boring blog
Agreed. I don't think its flameful. Some people just don't know how to manage their money.
