Who's on?

I've had an extremely productive day of not being productive at all. I'm glad I slept so long today, I'll need it tonight/next week.

What are you guys up to?

Re: Who's on?

  • I'm here...trying to decide if I should call in to work tomorrow. I'm not feeling the greatest.

On one hand, it's not a "real" job. I could easily miss a day, and it's only an hour of work that I'd miss. It would allow me to sleep in.

On the other hand, it's only one hour and I could come home and do nothing....and it's not like it incredibly strenuous or anything.

  • What time is the job?

If it were me unless I was hospitalized, I'd go in. Mainly because you just go this job.

What's going on that makes you feel so bad?

It's at 9:30...I leave the house by 9.

I'm just nauseous, have these weird cramps, dizzy...just not feeling right.

I think I'm just over tired.

  • I'm here.  I just got home from the grocery which was surprisingly empty (thanks, Super Bowl!).  Other than that, I really haven't done anything today.

  • Otter, I hope you start feeling better soon.

Stellar, what are you studying for?  Are you in school?  I feel like I should know this, but my Nest memory isn't very good sometimes.

Sounds like a great day! H just got home and we're watching all the SB commericals on hulu. I love that I can watch them and not have to watch the game. lol

lol.  I agree!  I'm looking up Madonna's half-time performance now just so I'll know what everyone is talking about.

Yes. I'm in school, but I'm only PT so I don't really count it. If that makes any sense. I just started back about a 2 semesters ago so I have a LONG road ahead of me if I'm only taking a couple of classes a semester. I think I'm going to try more in the fall I just didn't want to do it FT right off the bat when I just received a butt load of new job responsibilities. My employers are extremely flexible so we'll see what the future holds.

I'm hoping for a BA in Business Admin-management with an emphasis on HR. I dropped out twice between the age of 18-20 so I'm "trying" not to put too much pressure on myself. <-- this is laughable, really.

  • Okay: Hi!! H and I have been married for a year. He's in pharmaceutical and I'm in grad school for English but I'm not sure if I want to keep going with it. We don't want kids but my younger sister is having a baby due in March and now my mom will not leave me alone and shut up about jumping on the grandbaby-making train. We're happy with our cats, thankyouverymuch. lol.

Ok.  I remember this now!  When you said PT it jogged my memory because I was confused that you're still working during the day.  It seems like a lot of BNOTBers have mentioned school or taking classes again lately.

I admire you for going back, and it's good that your job is willing to work with you.  Even if it takes longer PT sounds great so you can do it at your own pace.

My mom is horrible about that. I have two older brothers and we are all one year apart but since I'm the only married one she automatically assumes we need to have a kid. Besides her most of the people encounter are pretty cool about. Welcome to the board if you stick around here you'll find humor in some of the responses this board comes up with regarding TTC questions.

You and me both.  Dishes are the devil.  If I could choose one task to never do again it would be dishes.  I'd rather clean toilets for all eternity.

Yeah, she keeps saying "when you have one" like it's happening tomorrow. Or she'll say "yet" after I say it's not happening. Silly mom.

You can do eeet!  (you can do it alllll night long, haha)

Joking aside, I know you can and will.  You seem like a hard worker but a smart person who still has balance and enjoys life.

My one regret about college is I didn't enjoy myself enough and kind of just let 4 years pass me by.  I took way too many classes at once, worked 2 jobs, and rarely slept just so I could finish on time.  I wish I would've "stopped to smell the flowers."  I also got really burnt out and didn't go to grad school so now here I sit, with no job, feeling like I'm mooching off my H.  lol.  I think trying to figure out the next step and what I want is harder than actually doing it, if that makes sense.

That turned into a rambling about me.  Really what I meant is regardless of how you go about doing it and what pace you choose all that matters is finishing and being proud of yourself for it.  And if you decide to drop classes again, then don't let anyone make you feel bad about it.  It's about what you want.

  • And that sounds lecture-y which is not what I intended either. lol.  I suck at getting my point across.  I should just say, "I support you, Stellar!"  lol

Have you ever thought about being a motivational speaker? I feel pumped! Big Smile

Thanks for "listening" and for you very encouraging words. It means the world to me.

Have you thought about what you'd want to do besides social work, or is that really want you want to do? I feel for you and your job situation and I'm keeping my fingers cross that something comes up that makes all of this worth it.

I love parts of NC, haha. ;) The mountains are my favorite (and where I grew up) but we live in the eastern part of the state now. I'm 25 & our wedding/6 year anniversary was 2/13/11... so we've been an old married couple for years now lol

lol.  You're welcome and I'm glad it didn't come off the wrong way!  I just don't want you to feel disappointed or put pressure on yourself for any reason, regardless of what you decide.

It's hard to say because I really don't know.  I always thought for sure I wanted to get my master's in mental health counseling.  Then I dabbled in the psych./social work field and hated it.  I think I liked the theory better than the practice.  It was just so depressing, so I put off going to grad school because I didn't want to waste time, energy, or money if I couldn't see myself doing it longterm.

Before I knew it, a few years had passed me by and I was stuck working a job I was miserable with.  Luckily, H got a job he enjoys, we moved, and we're fine on money.  I've been toying with the idea of going to grad school for something like speech pathology/communication disorders, but I can't seem to commit.  In the meantime, I've applied to a shitload of jobs -- random places -- and haven't gotten a single offer.  I never thought it would take this long.  At this point, I'd just be happy working as a secretary somewhere short-term as long as I can enjoy life and do things I love.  It's weird because I thought I'd have a career by now, you know?  But at least I'm happy. :)  I've had to completely reevaluate my idea of success, lol.

Good luck with your classes! I'm in grad school part time right now and I'm having a much easier time with it than I did last semester (where I had full time classes, two assistantships & a long commute).

    & KDuv612:

I know how how you feel about school and what to do now. I was kind of the same way, and even though I'm in grad school now, I have not been able to find job since graduating with my BA. I feel like a mooch to H as well, and I still can't decide if I want to continue with grad school or do something else. Trying to figure out what I want to do with my life career-wise is definitely the hardest part for me.

  • I think that's what really matters (reevaluating your idea of success). I'm a huge fan of finding out what it is you really want to do. Annnnd you're going on a fantastic trip soon so you can even view your sabbatical as a blessing.
