Hump Day Randomness

Re: Hump Day Randomness

  • GVSU, I don't know if home improvement project ever really end.  I understand your frustration, though.  There were many weekends that I would take the kids to my parents house so Jim could either work on his thesis or complete a project on the house.  And when I got back, I never found the progress I had hoped for.

Getting a punch list started is a great idea.  I hope that he can stick to the plan.

Speaking of windows, our last realtor suggested replacing our (ancient) windows.  Just thinking of what it might cost to replace our huge front window make my head hurt.

I am cracking up at myself and my odd desire to refute this statement.  I don't want to turn randoms into a cats vs. dogs thing, though.

LOL, I wasn't trying to bash dogs and their bladders.  Just my anecdotal evidence from personal experience, I've known more dogs to accidentally pee than cats.

I think pet discrimination should be all or nothing and not be species-specific. Stick out tongue

  • I know you weren't, DP.  I thought it was funny how my immediate reaction was: "must stand up for dog bladder control."  Dog

    I suggest the following compromise(?):

Cat bladders are superior to small dog and hound bladders.

All other dog bladders are superior to cat bladders.

    (In my experience.  Smile

    Haha I like this!

And with my recent experience I'll add: ANY Bladder is superior to an old giant dog with hip dysplasia.  In my experience :P

    JealousE!

I've put a temporary ban on doing that myself, just because it's too painful.

Although, this summer I'll need to do a little bit because we are considering a two-week trip to the UK after I pass the bar [I'm leaving this--I meant to say, after I take the bar exam--go go power of positive thinking] and if we want to use timeshare in Scotland, we'll need to book two years in advance.

    Oh, wow, awesome!!

  • I don't think I understand Pinterest.  Sad

Let's say I want to start pinning ideas for new living room decor, specifically curtains.  Am I supposed to use Pinterest to:

    a) Look through my friends' boards and see if they have curtain ideas?

    b) Use the search function - "curtains"?

    c) Look elsewhere on the internets and save pictures that I like to my Pinterest board?

    d) You've got it all wrong, dork!

ETA: Joining Pinterest is like the first time I walked into Ikea -- totally overwhelming.

    e. all of the above.  Though, looking through your friends' boards might not get you to curtains specifically.  For specifics, I use search.  For general ideas, I watch my friends' boards.  When I'm out and about on the interweb and see something that catches my eye, I pin it.

All of the above! And if you installed the pinning bookmark, you can "pin" anything you come across while searching the internet.  I pin a lot of things just by browsing home decor/preschool/recip blogs and websites like pottery barn.

lol. Seriously you guys are cracking me up. My personal opinion is that both species have accidents, but cat pee smells really really really horrible and dog pee just smells horrible. Therefore dog pee is better because it doesn't smell as bad.

TH is pretty good about doing stuff while I'm gone for the weekend. He actually often works until the point that he is physically unable to. He has a bum hip/back, so a lot of times by Sunday night he can barely walk or his hands are number from scrapping or doing whatever job.

We just have too many projects going on at once

Girls Room - new window,  do some paint work so it looks a little diffferent than before (we have stencils for Allison's room and are repainting the stripes in Mia's room), and buy full size beds

Upstairs bathroom - tile grout project is complete (yay), repain above shower, put new windows in, fix trim, paint rest of room, install new facuet and shower rack.

Kitchen - new sink and garbage disposal

Small bath after kitchen - TH went to do a minor patch job on the plaster ceiling. He was going to chip away at one small part and it completely crumbled, along with a huge section. He ended up taking out the whole ceiling and lath boards.

  • WOP - I didn't get a chance to post yesterday afternoon about your sister. Thank you for sharing. I too was shocked when you mention her the other day.
  • I think we might celebrate Valentine's Day early and go to Salt of the Earth tonight . . .they're having a multicourse dinner paired with L  Mawby sparkling wines.
  • I'm in quote land again. I've been in quote land for about 3 days now. Quote, revise quote revise and repeat. Yep that is the excitement of my job. Awesome, I know.

Yum.  We need to check that place out sometime.

I love L Mawby! The blanc de blanc is our go to sparkling wine for parties and hostess gifts.  Last summer we rode our bikes on the trail up the Leelanau Peninsula and hit both Shady Lane and  L Mawby wineries for wine tastings. I won't be in shape to do it this year, but definitely we'll make it an annual bike ride.

    Have fun and enjoy!

  • I also love L Mawby.  We aren't huge sparkling wine people, but it feels like a party whenever we've stopped there and I like that.
  • GVSU (and any other DIYers)--Hats off to you!  It looks like you have quite an extensive list.  I don't know that L and I could survive a DIY project of that scale--we have a hard time with painting and changing a faucet.
  • OK the V day dinner L Mawby style is out. DH isn't feeling well. I'm sure we'll find something else to do thogh before V Day. I hate going out ON the day since it's crowded everywhere.

Ditto all of this.  B tried to install a new towel rack once.  It did not go well.

Totally agree with this.  Even unacceptable places to eat are completely packed.  It's like the collective world has decided that Valentine's Day is the day to go to dinner.

As for me, I'll be spending V day curled up with my properteh book, cramming for my midterm.  L and I are now in a polygamous marriage--him, law school and me.
