I love it. The new annoying thing to me is when someone else comments on a post that I posted on someone else's page it'll said what friend of yours they are. Like I post something on my sisters page, if someone else i know posts on there and they are a friend of a mutual person they will put that mutual friend's name in ()

  • Hey Ladies!

I did not notice the sun.  I also arrived at work at 7:30, so I'm not sure it was shining by then.  Sometimes I'm oblivious.

Kasa, that's very sweet that a CW gave you a rose

Wendy, GL w/your article!  The new restaurant sounds interesting.

I agree.  Instead of "unfriending" I just block me from seeing the updates of people I don't want to see.  Then I feel like less of a jerk.

  • Having fun giving ExeperienceGR heck today on FB with other West Michigan bloggers. It's so obnoxious that their new blog features no one from West Michigan. In fact, a number of us with hyperlocal blogs have tried to collaborate with them but they act as though we are gum on the bottom of their shoe.

I do use unsubscribe as well.  I'm much more likely to do that than unfriend.  Unfriend is reserved for the most egregious offenses Stick out tongue

    Get 'em, Wendy!

Wait... ExperienceGR is not powered by locals?  I've never visited their site.

The site is but their new blog isn't . . . although one of the members of West Michigan Blogs is going to be one of their writers, just found this out. But, they have had no interest in reaching out to the social media/blogging community within GR which has been frustrating to say the least. I've actually met a couple of their staff at various local media events. They are saying they haven't worked with us because their audience is outside Grand Rapids, but hello, most bloggers have nationwide audiences (except for hyperlocal ones like Eat Local West Michigan, but there are only a couple of us who fall into that category). Plus there's a lot of content we'd love to share.

  • I'm a terrible Googler and can't even find the Experience GR blog.

So, who are the writers?  Did they pay an outside firm to do it?  Or "experts" in the travel industry?

    ETA: Found it.

Well that's just silly! I'd much rather know what to do and what's going on in the city from the insiders. It's cool getting info from you guys b/c you know the nooks and crannies of the area. Frequent visitors are ok to learn from. But I'd rather have the inside scoop.

I am going to have chicken salad on a croissant, strawberries and chips.

  • Based on a suggestion here, Henry and I went to Newks Cafe a few days ago.  I got a Greek salad, and really didn't like it.  I didn't like the dressing and the salad was swimming in it.  I'm kind of a whimpy consumer, and wasn't going to say anything, but someone came to check on us and she asked.  The manager came and offered a replacement item.  The veggie club sandwhich was terrific.  That kind of service, and the good food earns a return visit.

I'm glad it worked out for you.  Service like that is really important IMO.  I hope to get to that side of town soon.

Yay! Glad to hear you had  great service. We were impressed with the service too. The managers went out of their way to accomodate the girls and were super friendly.

Yes the bloggers are paid. They also sponsor trips for bloggers (usually from Chicago) to visit and post about it. Which is fine, but hello - why not at least talk to the people who are already writing about Grand Rapids for free?

    It was discussed a bit.

I haven't watched the parody, but I'm not sure I'm okay with a parody of it.  I think it's too serious of an offense to make light of it in that way.

But the parody highlights why the original was so offensive.  I think that this particular parody says to the viewer to "Can you believe how outrageous this offense was?" rather than "Let's all laugh at racism!"

Isn't there a term for that - it's not coming to me at the moment.  Like Jonathon Swift writing about how the Irish should sell their babies during the famine to highlight how crazy the attitudes toward the poor people were.

We watched the parody last night. I welcome all forms of criticism of his ad. I have to say we enjoyed it. Laugh or you will cry, I suppose.

Interesting that they didn't need to change much of the original ad to get their point across.

  • :::Debbie Downer Alert:::

    1) I have cried at work everyday this week, so far.  Maybe Friday will be better?

    2)  My dad called me at 11:50 to tell me doctors say grandpa has 1-2 days left.

It's what I wanted.  It' what he needs.  He is mentally and emotionally miserable.  He is ready to go.  His body doesn't work anymore.  He is so unhappy.  It will be best for him to pass.

But it makes me cry so much.

I can't imagine going through a major loss at the same time you're going through the hormone posioning of the first trimester.

Crying is okay.  It's part of the grief work that you're in the middle of.  Sending you support and wishes of comfort.

  • Hey Molly- it's ok to be sad. Don't feel bad for being emotional. You are going through some heavy stuff.  Knowing he needs to go doesn't make it any easier. Hugs to you lady.

You cry as much as you need to.
