Forgetful Friday Randoms

I forgot to put on deodorant, write a check for daycare, and I forgot my cell phone.  It's all good though.  Yay for Friday!  Smile

Re: Forgetful Friday Randoms

  • My car should be fixed today - crossing fingers!

  • I hate days like that.  I would probably forget my head if it were unattached.

Happy Friday!  And tell that snow to hold off until ~6:00.

  • Never mind, I just looked at a radar.  I'm screwed.  Even nestie magic can't save me.  Although, I can hope for clear roads, so there's that.
  • Eh- who needs deoderant?? Stick out tongue

Any plans for the weekend? B is not coming home this weekend. But I'll be heading up there after class Sunday! Yaaaaaaay! We are going to the Blue Water Grill (I think) for a casual V-day. I'll be there until Tuesday.

We had a guest speaker in class yesterday about the Collaborative Process (it's an "alternative" divorce process). I think I could do that. It centers around being a team. It's not adversarial at all. So I'm asking my Prof if she has any contacts out that way. I looked it up and there are only 18 attorneys in West MI  that have the training to do this kind of practice. Fingers crossed I can find someone to take me under their wing.

Dear snow- chill out until DP gets home. Thanks

  • Hoekstra took down the website linked to his nasty ad!  Interesting

    http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120209/POLITICS02/202090432/GOP-Senate-hopeful-s-first-TV-spot-blasts-Hoekstra-ad?odyssey=mod%7Cnewswell%7Ctext%7CFRONTPAGE%7Cp

Interesting that he didn't really apologize for it or acknowledge that it was a bad idea.  They're just kind of making it look like this was the plan all along:

Hoekstra campaign spokesman Paul Ciaramitaro said in an email: "After hundreds of thousands of visitors to the micro-site saw our first campaign ad and the effects of Stabenow's reckless spending, we wanted to direct traffic to Pete's site where voters can see our second ad, which lays out Pete's vision of fiscal discipline and economic growth."

I think this emerging practice is fascinating!  Honestly, it's so refreshing and healthy compared to the traditional, contentious divorce process.  Touch base with the Collaborative Practice Institute of Michigan.  They seem to be a pretty cohesive group and I bet they'll have some resources for you.

Blue Water has great food.  The last time I was there though, we had horrible service, it was almost comical.  What sucked even more was that it was an anniversary dinner.  The time before that was fine, so I think our server was just having a bad day and took it out on us.  Haha.

  • B&G, if you go the Collaborative Process route (which sounds really cool), you could start up a holistic practice that would include my school friend.  She's starting to design a counseling program for divorcing well.  You could handle the legal, she would handle the emotional. ;).

Jim is coming home today.  He called last night, pretty hyped up from the excitement of the event.  I was just getting into bed with hot tea and my book.  Bad match of energy levels there.

Kasa, are you reading Bird by Bird?  What do you think so far?

WOP, hope your morning turns around.

  • Wop, I feel like your day can only get better from here.  And, yay, Friday!

Diana, I hope the highways stay clear for you.  I feel like it's not going to be as bad as predicted (I probably always say that, though).  I told B this morning that meteorologists have a quota of how many winter weather advisories they must issue each winter and since they're running way behind this winter, they had to issue one today for a mere few flurries headed our way.  B then said that I don't give meteorologists the respect that they deserve.  We're hilarious, really.  Smile

BnG, Kasa brought the Collaborative Process to my attention last year and it sounds interesting.  Good luck!

ETA: I'm glad Kasa jumped in here between when this thought formed in my head and when it got posted.

Or you could have a super awesome mutual referral partnership.  Referrals are key to legal business development, my friend.  (Okay, I'll stop now.)

Yes!  It's great!  I'm really enjoying it.  She's so funny.  Last night, I read the chapter about characters and I thought she had a lot of good advice in there.

That sounds very interesting. When Mike got divorced from his first wife, they had no problems at all. They figured out the child support and then went to court together and got the divorce granted. No fighting, no thing.

  • Kasa/GRSP- It really is refreshing. I did a little preliminary research last night after class. My Prof is on the board for the State so I'm sure she can point me in the right direction. It sounds so much healthier than going to court. I don't think I'm cut out for litigation anyway. I'd do it if I have to of course- but I'd rather stay out of it. I think too many lawers focus on nailing someone in court that they forget the consequences- especially where children are involved.

GR- has your friend done the CP training? I'd love to collaborate!

I hope our service is good Sunday Wop. I'll be cranky coming off of a 3 hour class and 2 hour drive. Maybe I should brace myself. It WILL be V-day weekend.

I hate it when that happens.

  • Respect is earned, and I don't think meteorologists have earned my trust.  Kasa, peeks into discussions with Kaso crack me up.

I'm glad you're enjoying the book.  She has such a great way of expressing the scary parts of life.  I'm reading her latest novel right during my break.  She does character so well.  This book continues characters from a previous book.  It's like visiting old friends.

  • Don't I know it Kasa! I just have to get out there and network. The speaker was saying how CP could be very beneficial to commercial and probate disputes as well. I could see having a practice centered around CP for those three areas.

    I'll keep you all updated.

I like the way you think.  They said only 1-2", which is really not a big deal.  My only concern is the potential for iciness with the falling temps this afternoon.  And I'm stopping in Okemos to restock my wine from Dusty's Cellar and have lunch with L's cousin and gf.  So that should unfortunately put me to GR at the beginning of rush hour.

I don't know, but probably not (and not in our program, for sure).  It sounds like something that "lives in" the legal realm.  She does have the experience of doing it (divorcing well) herself.

  • Happy Friday Ladies!!!

Would someone explain to me why kids need a mid winter break?? It seams like just yesterday they were off for Christmas break, now they get 2 more days off!!

On the positive I am going to take some time with my son today. Poor boy is surrounded by girls! So there is a little shopping in our plans for today and maybe lunch.

He is really excited, he had been itching for a new video game. He has not gotten a new one in almost a year. His grades finally came up so now I am willing to let him have one.

Oh ok. Everyone on the CP team goes through the same training. Lawyers, mental health specialists (divorce coaches), financial analysts and child specialists all train at a 3 day workshop in Okemos. At least that's where it is this year.

  • Draven, I don't know about midwinter break.  I wonder if teachers report for admin. catch up?

My daughter is in GRPS.  She doesn't have a break, but has the last 2 Friday's in March off.  I'm really looking forward to them.

I feel like I know nothing about you.  Do you mind if I interrogate you for a minute?  :)  You have your 6th kid on the way?  Are you planning on having more or are you done at 6?  I'm very intrigued by this.  I definitely couldn't handle 6!!!  Hehehe.

The last conversation I had with my grandpa, I told him I was pregnant.  He said "I hope that's it for you!"  lol.  He had 6 kids.  He said something about how hard it is to raise kids in this day and age, and two should be the max.

(We had a good laugh and he also said congrats. Smile)

Wow! That's even cooler, then. Is there a website that I can point her to? I think she'd be really interested in the training.

  • Mol, that's a funny conversation with your grandpa.  On the night my grandma died, she was very pushy about me having #2.  I whispered to her that we were working on it.  She lit up!  Six weeks later I was pregnant.

Way to make Molly cry, GRSP.  Dude.

Hehe... that is a super sweet story.

  • Wahoo, it's bonus day at work today.

My favorite day of the year.  Wink
